"Of course, I am sure! I am not going to agree with the decision of this Anderson. Who the h.e.l.l he thinks he is? He's been in the Academy for only like what, a few days? And he's already bossing everybody around. I'll show him who's in charge here .. Ouch!"
Melinda screamed in surprise and pain. A guy who was pa.s.sing by hooked her with a shoulder and calmly kept on going, without even turning around.
"Hey, you! Look where you are going! You weren't taught how to apologize, were you!?" The girl shouted after him.
The guy stopped, turned his head slightly, then immediately turned back and walked away.
Matthews boiled with rage after this att.i.tude to her n.o.ble person. "Hey, you, you f.u.c.king a.s.shole!" But the guy was already out of sight. "Aghggr, what a day of idiots. One or the other. Moreover, he dressed in all black. Is he cosplaying Batman or something? I hate such people!"
Melinda was walking along the corridor, unleas.h.i.+ng a torrent of swearwords until she reached her final goal. Turning the k.n.o.b, she opened the office door and froze not believing her eyes.
As she entered she saw how Elena, having removed her hand from the professor's neck, took a step back and trembled. The girl turned to Melinda, she was absolutely pale and was about to be ready to burst into tears.
"Hey, Lee, what the h.e.l.l was that?"
"Call an ambulance! Now! And ... and the police ...," Elena said in a broken voice.
Melinda looked from Elena to an unconscious man nearby.
"He... is he ... dead?" The girl whispered, and her face grimaced in horror. Her two friends, standing behind her and watching from the side, could not stand it and began to scream.
"Call the ambulance, now!" Elena was covered with a wave of emotions, and she began to yell along.
"Shut up! I got it already! f.u.c.k!" Melinda pulled the phone out of her pocket and began to dial 911 with trembling fingers.
. . .
Fifteen minutes later, the ambulance and the police arrived at the Academy building. After the doctors examined Professor Richards and confirmed the fact of death, the man's body was taken to the morgue. The police remained on site to gather evidence and interview witnesses. And, of course, Elena was the main witness.
"Miss Lee, in order not to drive the whole school crazy, I ask you to go to the police station with us to provide testimony."
The girl agreed, and the police officer took her to the official car. When they arrived at the police station, Elena stayed in the waiting room. The girl tried her best to hold back her emotions and keep calm, but her whole determination disappeared as soon as she saw him.
David flew into the room like a hurricane. His hair was in a mess, and from his breathing, it was obvious that he was running fast. Having seen Elena, he immediately rushed to her and squeezed her tight in his arms. His warming heat enveloped the girl's body; she could not stand it and burst into tears loudly.
A few minutes pa.s.sed before Elena could calm down a bit.
"David, he killed him ... It was him." The girl's voice was interrupted by sobs.
"Who is he? Did you see anyone?"
"Yes, it was the man in black who came earlier."
David pressed the girl closer and began to gently stroke her on the head. "Elena, are you sure about that? This situation is very serious and every word can mean a lot."
"I'm sure David! It was so horrible... He asked the professor about the doc.u.ments that I gave you. And when the professor refused to tell him something, he just...killed him."
David's hand, which had been stroking the girl's head all this time, suddenly stopped and the man's body tightened. Noticing this, Elena raised her head up and looked into his face. The man was deep in his thoughts, and a chill crept from him.
"David... and if this person will now look for you because of these doc.u.ments? What if he hurts you? We have to urgently tell the police about everything!"
Hearing the last words of the girl, the man instantly came to his senses. His face became very serious, and he answered her in an even voice, "Elena, I beg you, do not tell the police about these doc.u.ments. Do not tell anybody. Do you understand me?"
"But how is it possible ..."
"If you trust me, I ask you to keep this detail in secret. I am very serious about that."
Elena looked at David carefully. It was the first time she saw him like this. It seemed that he was a completely different person.
"Excuse me, are you Miss Lee?" The voice of the policeman returned her from the circle of thoughts. Elena nodded, confirming her ident.i.ty. "Please, follow me for testimony."
"This girl will not go anywhere with you."
A male voice unexpectedly interrupted them. Elena and David turned around and saw a man in front of her dressed in a strict business suit.
"My name is Peter Brown. I am a lawyer for the family of Lee, here is my business card. My client will communicate with the police only after receiving a formal request and in the presence of a lawyer. Since the request was not received, she has the right to refuse to give evidence and leave the building of the police station."
"Elena."
The girl just now noticed that the lawyer was not alone.
"Father…"
"Get ready, we're leaving," Elena's father said sternly and looked at David.
David immediately bowed and introduced himself, "h.e.l.lo, Mr. Lee. My name is David Anderson. At the moment I am giving lectures to your daughter at the Academy..."
"I know perfectly well who you are, young man," Cheng Lee interrupted David. "I am sure you know perfectly well who I am. Therefore, I ask you to refrain from communicating with my daughter in the nearest future. Elena, we're leaving."
"But, father!"
"I said we are leaving. Don't make me repeat twice." President Lee was adamant.
"Elena, listen to your father. You need to go and have a rest." David smiled, noticing that the cold reaction of her father upset the girl.
She smiled slightly at him and softly whispered, "I will call you."
"I will look forward to it," David gently whispered back and stayed to watch Elena and her father leave the police station building.
