Somehow between the time they arrived in t.i.thor and settled down in Ode's house, an army had lined itself around the outer walls and began firing in with their mortars. It was quite a devastating attack as the whole outer area was demolished by a barrage from the enemy.

This was the advantage of modern weapons. Unlike conventional wars where armies had to gather right outside a strongholds doorstep and prepare to attack and besiege them with the full force of an army, guns and explosives could be deployed quickly and effectively without the opposition knowing until the first sh.e.l.ls landed.

In this case, the first attackers were actually just 4-5, speeding into enemy range with their loaded weapons on the back of a pickup truck. With just the few weapons they were supplied with, they were able to suppress the defense enough so that the rest of their comrades could come in and prepare a perimeter around the structure and intensifying the firing rate.

Travis could only watch in anger as their men could only react pa.s.sively to these attacks, evacuating the citizens and trying their best to salvage the remains of the buildings by putting out the spreading fires. But they were even losing there.

The mages themselves could put out large fires with a spell, but compared to the fire rate of the mortars, by the time they put out one fire another one or two would pop up. As for the warriors, they were found even more useless in this situation as even with their immense strength there was a limit to the buckets of water each one could carry.

At this point of urgency, two people showed up in his command. For one of them, he felt a little relieved and a little unwilling to meet at his point. The other one, he wasn't sure how he should feel about her.

"What are you doing here? Where are my men, I specifically told them not to let anyone in here." He asked realizing that they shouldn't have been able to enter the inner chambers of command in the first place.

"Don't worry, they did their job well by trying to stop us from entering." Grendolyn replied with a smirk. "Of course the emphasis would be try, right now they're enjoying a dirt nap."

"You killed them!? you son of a..." Travis lunged at her.

In response, Od simply stepped between them, stopping Travis's advance for a few seconds. Giving him enough time to pull away the curtain behind him, behind which was several of Travis's men who were buried in the ground up to their necks.

He looked at the sorry states of his subordinates and finally realized that the Lady Ode had brought with him was immensely more powerful than he imagined. When he remembered how earlier in the day he had ignored her killing intent he started to sweat bullets.

Any type of mage needed to charge their spell before activation. As soldiers in a higher tier kingdom, his men were so attuned to this activation sequence that they could react to magicians who were trying to attack from a mile away.

Even then the battles between mages and warriors were a little unfair as mages though holding more firepower generally had to keep their distance but at the same time, if they attack from too far a warrior had a larger chance of dodging the spell. And these were restrictions that were met if a mage wanted to attack one on one. Unless they were using attacks with an explosion radius it was difficult to hit several people at a time, and it should take way longer to charge and cast several spells to attack everyone in a group. If it required a measure of control, the spells effects would take longer to work on their opponents giving them ample time to avoid the attack.

This lady had broken all those rules. Judging by their positions, all his men had seemingly been dropped into a hole right where they were standing and all at the same time, that meant simply one thing. The time she required to use her skills was much faster than the soldiers senses could keep up with and her abilities activated faster than the soldiers could even move in response.

And these were no conscripted soldiers, they were handpicked from the best to work under him. Even as their residing captain, he'd be in a lot of trouble if he fought even 5 of them head on. Any higher and he was prepared to have his a.s.s handed to him. Some of them were able to run through a barrage of spells from a squad of mages and still arrive unharmed and ready to slaughter.

Yet, in the face of this inhuman thing, they might as well have been still targets. This was the case when she attacked 10 men altogether, meaning her casting speed and concentration should have at least been divided between 10 people. If only he knew that it didn't even take any concentration on her part to conjure a feat like this, he'd probably be prostrating under her feet right now.

"W... wh... who are you?" He asked through chattering teeth.
