Chapter 165

Just like that, James was in the game. No longer was he a floating orb. No, he was finally a player. Finally had a physical form. Finally, one of the adventurers…

Errr. More or less. Looking around, he couldn't help but notice a few things right away. First, just like BLANK's avatar, James's was ma.s.sive. If he had to guess, his character was roughly 25feet tall, making him tower over the adventurers at his feet. Second, his Giant Plaython cloak looked slightly ridiculous, with its patchwork bright colors, as it floated in the wind. It totally clashed with his steampunk leather armor that covered his form snugly. Furthermore, as James reached up gently, he remembered he had opted to have on the Top Hat that was dropped on his second floor. It had seemed like such a great idea at the time… now, James was extremely self-conscious. Plus, his whole outfit, and his elven form, silver hair tied back in a ponytail, did not match with his skeletal glowing wings. Those, also amplified by the size of his Avatar, stretched out nearly 15 feet in both directions. Mentally, James tried to fold them back, and thankfully, they did. Now they just floated, nestled behind him, just outside of his cloak. It was a little less obnoxious, but still, he was a dumpster fire in appearance right now. The exact opposite of the put together, matching, The Candied King, Avatar that BLANK had.

After James finished looking over himself, he looked down, realizing the ma.s.s of players was still staring at him. No one was speaking, and all their attention was on him. Honestly, all of the attention actually made him a little anxious. He had gotten so used to doing things behind the scenes, and only interacting with Rue, that now, he found himself staring dumbstruck down at the people that had summoned him. What was he supposed to do? Should he talk to them? Should he coach them, command them? What?

"Are you just going to stand there like an idiot?" Rue's voice pulled his attention towards the sky, where he could see her small pixie form clear as day. He looked around rapidly, but no one seemed to notice the pixie. James had to wonder if he was only able to see her because of their connection as core and pixie.

"Well, what else should I do?" The question came out before he could stop it. With a silent groan, his eyes darted down at the players. Sure enough, many had stepped back, and all were looking at him now with a look of confusion, not awe. Great. Just great.

"Obviously you need to convince them to summon me. Then we can go kick that self-righteous a.s.shole in the teeth." Rue flashed her teeth as she grinned evilly. While James agreed summoning her was important, he doubted they would be able to turn the tide of the battle that quickly.

Currently, only about an hour had pa.s.sed of day three, meaning there was 23 hours left on the fields of battle. Both sides were still pretty full, player wise. Additionally, both sides were down their second-floor bosses, and had summoned one of their avatars. James didn't know what else BLANKs dungeon had been doing with their essence, but he knew his players had blown through a decent amount summoning their d.i.c.kens. Summoning Charles had used even more essence, meaning his players would need to start killing BLANKs, if they were going to keep the war going all day.

From what James was learning of the situation, it was as much a war of attrition as it was one of pure strength. After all, no matter how large the boss monster, or how strong the avatar, a ma.s.s of 10,000 adventurers, many of whom had some form of true or piercing damage, could bring down the creature. The battles on the FoB were going to be won much more off of tactics and combined skills, rather than individual might. Of course, James already knew BLANK planned to completely carry their side to victory.

"Sure, I'll get right on that." James muttered to Rue, before he turned his attention back down to the adventurers surrounding him. How exactly was he going to make this work? He was suddenly realizing how appropriate the name he had chosen for his Avatar was fitting. To the adventurers, their ma.s.sive Avatar, meant to represent the dungeon core, was talking to the sky. Brilliant move James.

"Er." James cleared his throat, looking down at the adventurers. This was a whole new level of role play. And he was not a fan right now. Like seriously, the fact he couldn't give himself away as being an actual human player was frustrating enough. Now, he had set himself up to be a freaking Mad Mage of Chaos. What the h.e.l.l had he gotten himself into.

"Take me to your leader." He blurted out. It was the first thing that came to mind. Seriously, James had not thought this all through. It sounded great on paper; it had seemed like it would be a breeze. But roleplaying a mad mage, who needed to help organize a ma.s.s of players in order to bring down BLANKs dungeon, was going to be a bigger challenge than James had antic.i.p.ated. Even worse, James knew the clock was ticking, and he doubted BLANKs forces were just sitting around waiting for something to happen.

Now that BLANK had summoned their first Avatar, James could only imagine what they were setting up on their end. The only thing he was certain of was that Xander's kids were definitely going to begin this war in earnest, and soon. After all, with their…cheery disposition, James was certain they fully intended to not only crush him, but they were likely planning to completely crush and abuse his players as well. They likely reveled in stomping other players and destroying their will to play. Those types of players, those elitists, p.i.s.sed James off to no end.

He didn't have an issue with people being great at games. He himself was extremely powerful in WU. However, just because he was better than other players, didn't mean he rubbed it in their faces. He wasn't a bully. He would help those in need and would teach and guide others. Players like BLANK though, who seemed to believe the only option in gaming was to either be better than everyone else, or be a loser who shouldn't play the games, rubbed James the wrong way.

In essence, in that moment, as James stood their looking down at the adventurers, countless thoughts racing through his mind, one thing solidified itself. No matter what, even if the worst case happened and he lost, he was going to make sure he protected his adventurers. He was not going to let BLANK stomp on them… Or at least… stomp on any more of them. Since BLANK had literally stepped on a few of his players already...oops.
