Abel haphazardly packed all the ancient scriptures before exiting the s.p.a.ce. Following which he reunited with a worried Reina and the duo immediately departed for Northanc.

They had been on holiday, so they were very leisurely in the initial portion of their travels, but due to unforeseen circ.u.mstances, they were no longer ent.i.tled to such leisure.

Just like that, Abel arrived in Sellion and was having a serious conversation with Kyle on the 89th floor of the tower.

"So you're saying that the black mages have become active in the Kreuz Empire, and their ultimate objective is the advent of the 2nd apocalypse?"
The black mage hating archmage, Kyle, was unable to hide his shock at Abel's news.

"Yes! And the reason for the ancient 'Apocalypse' seems to stem from black magic as well. A gateway to the demon realm was opened, and that was probably the black mages' doing."

"Huh… I've been overly focused on the Hela Empire……."

2 years ago, he had tried to look into the stolen goods merchant known as Kurt, but the suspect had already died. After that, he had used all of his connections to sniff out any residuals of black magic within the Empire…
But nothing was found, as though the group of perpetrators had vaporized into thin air.

To think they would be found in the Kreuz Empire instead . They did say the darkest spots lie beneath the lamp, but wasn't he seemingly too focused on looking under the lamp?

"I need to relay this to the Kreuz Empire's Magic a.s.sociation! The fact that the black mages have shown themselves means that they've come prepared…. I wonder if the Kreuz Empire is already past the point of no return…."
If war erupted again, the damage to the Hela Empire wouldn't be anything to scoff at.

"What should I do then?"

"There's still a year until your graduation, so you just focus on that. We don't know when the black mages will appear again, so learn those ancient magic spells quickly as well. If anything happens to the Imperial Capital, then you can come back to Northanc immediately."

Although Abel's magic prowess was unmatched amongst his peers, the black mages would stop at nothing. He still needed ample time to consolidate his powers.

'I'll talk to the royals and have them swap out the intelligence agents in the Kreuz Empire completely.'

They couldn't be more incompetent. Abel had only taken a few days to find out what they couldn't for an entire 2 years.

After the serious talk with Kyle, Abel had returned to his own room.

'My head feels more refreshed than ever!'

An unknown sense of refreshedness pervaded his mind. This had been the case ever since Thrandriel's white mana upgraded his brain. He felt as if his mind had been cleared out. And then, he came to a realization…

…about how dang stupid he had been all this while!

'I was a frog in a well! d.a.m.n birdbrain.'

The s.p.a.ce-time magic he had developed until now felt insignificant. At the same time, all the knowledge in his brain felt like they were renewed. Especially the prior knowledge pertaining to his college major, mathematics!

Algebra, a.n.a.lytics, geometry, discrete mathematics, probability, statistics, and even topology!

All the knowledge that he had less than half of an understanding of, he could now comprehend in their entirety.

'With this!'

He felt that he could solve the 7 Millennium Problems of Mathematics.

However…

"Haa… I stole it unintentionally.'

Abel took out a crumpled piece of sheepskin scroll, and a key fragment from his pouch.

Due to the sudden earthquake, he had completely forgotten to hand it over to Hollander.

'Let's see. I can read it now, so….'

Ever since the residual body was absorbed into his brain, he gained the ability to read ancient texts. He was very surprised to find out when he smoothly deciphered the ancient scriptures.

Abel unfurled the sheepskin scroll in his hand.

However, our only worry is that the holy artifact, and the only celestial artifact remaining in existence, 'Sorole', will fall in the hands of evil. As such, we have decided to seal it with holy magic and split the key in two – one kept by the Zesus Church, and one by the Gaia Church.

If you came into possession of this key, then you must have unlocked the vault. It shall also mean that you must require Sorole to fight the dark forces!

However, even if you find both halves of the key, only the chosen one can open the final seal. I hope the dark forces will not taint Srole, O savior of the future…….>

'It was a vault?'

He didn't unlock the vault at all! It was a complete coincidence that he found the key. Perhaps the vault was sealed away or something.

From the tone of the words recorded in the scripture, it sounded incredibly important… after all, a 'chosen one' would supposedly be the one to use it.

'I should take it back to the Gaia Church.'

The Zesus Church was not something he had heard of before, so it seemed like they faded out of existence after the apocalypse.

And this 'Sorole'.
It seemed to be some celestial artifact that he had never heard of before..

Even if he did return it later, he decided to look for it first out of a sense of curiosity.

There were books about artifacts in the 100 ancient tomes he received, so maybe he would be able to glean some information on it.

Abel then rummaged through the magic pouch for a book about artifacts. As he had simply dumped all the books inside, it was a little difficult to look through all of them.

"Found it!"
Abel shouted while taking out a thick book.

It seemed like an abridged, all in one version. Left behind for the easy perusal of the successor.

Swipe-
Abel turned over the pages and started looking for an entry about 'Sorole'.

'Let's see…..'

He flipped through page by page. Eventually, his hands stopped flipping… and his eyes popped out as though he had seen a ghost.

What! The legendary ego artifacts? The ancients really did possess artifacts that possessed consciousness?

What if…

He could learn this magic? And what if…
He could bestow an ego into Casio?

He would get a speaking Casio. One with real artificial intelligence!

Wouldn't it be great if he could just say 'Calculate!' and Casio would reply with 'Yes!' and bam! Instant results! If he could, he wouldn't even have to press a b.u.t.ton. It would be revolutionary.

Gulp-
Abel looked at the page that contained the principles of ego artifacts with trembling hands.

When he gained a rough understanding of the principles, his already enlarged eyes widened even further as though he had been struck on the back of his head with a hammer.

"This, this is about complex numbers!"

Amazing! The ancients already had knowledge about imaginary numbers? Ones that squared into negative numbers?

Complex numbers were a combination of imaginary and real numbers. It was a step up from the real number line.

The founding of imaginary numbers expanded the one dimensional concept of numbers into two dimensions.

'This looks very complicated……'

The book contained complicated calculations of complex numbers, and especially focused on multiplications. It was no wonder that ego magic was the end-all magic of artifacts. From what he knew about magic, he simply had to acknowledge this.

The spells he had learned until now were just the tip of an iceberg.

"However, what if I use the Euler-De Moivre formula?"

If he used the Euler's ident.i.ty formula, as well as the De Moivre formula, which was already stored within his calculator, he should be able to calculate it quickly.

He would subst.i.tute complex numbers for Cartesian coordinates, otherwise known as the complex plane, and represent it as a polar coordinate. Once he did so, he would be able to simplify those calculations into relatively simpler exponents and trigonometry.

'Huh, how was I able to arrive at the conclusion so quickly…?'

(T/N: Took me ages to translate though.)

He wouldn't be able to think of this solution if it was him in the past.

Algebra, and especially complex a.n.a.lysis, was one of Abel's weak points. He graduated without knowing half the related jargon in the textbook.

However, now that his brain potential had blown up, thoughts were popping up everywhere in his mind like making popcorn.

'It looks like this is going to take awhile.'

Since he had Casio, calculation wasn't a problem, and in regards to magical insights, he should be able to solve it gradually using the room of spirit and time. Now that his brain was working very well, he would be able to do so quickly

However, the problem was the quant.i.ty of mana he was able to use. Mana was a constraint within the room of spirit and time.

Think! About a solution to the lack of mana! He was confident that he would be able to find a solution with his enhanced brain. He also thought that a solution existed somewhere in the books

'By the time the new semester begins, I should be able to cast ego magic.'

He was lacking a little in the mana department. Thus. he believed it would require around a month to be able to use it. In the meantime, though, he felt that it would be better to focus on other magic spells.

During his awakening, the scene he saw in his mind had a gateway to the demon realm. Didn't that mean that the ancients had a magic spell to open dimensional gates? If he looked into these ancient scriptures, he should also be able to solve the issue about dimensional travel.

After that, Abel looked for information about Sorole, but didn't find any in that particular book.

March was the start of the spring semester. Flowers hadn't yet blossomed, but there were freshmen as well as the returning 3rd and 4th years that replaced the lack of flowers.

"Ha~I like Spring. Do you know why, Loki?"
Ian spoke with a bright grin on his face.

"Why?"

"Because there are a lot of pretty people. But, in Autumn, they barely care about what they wear at all! We need to sear the sights into our memories right now, enough to last the whole year."

Loki sighed and shook his head.

During their walk to the dorms, Ian had scanned the female students like an attentive meerkat. His face was completely lost.

Clack.
When they opened the dorm room, they saw that Abel had already arrived and was unpacking his stuff.

"It's been a while, Abel! Oh yeah, did you hear about it?"
Ian greeted Abel and asked.

"What news?"

"I heard that the holy maiden was chosen at the Gaia Church! It's the hottest topic nowadays! The holy maiden has declared that all occult religion followers are to be imprisoned. The people are saying it's oppressive or whatnot. There seems to be lots of believers of that occult religion."

"Really?"

It seemed that Sylvia had relayed the information well.

'Well, since the holy maiden was chosen… what happens to Sylvia now?'
Since Sylvia told him that there were around a thousand holy maiden candidates, he simply brushed off the 1/1000 probability.

"I want to see the new holy maiden at least once. The holy maidens until now were all really pretty! They seem to choose the prospective candidates based on appearance."
Ian spoke with s.h.i.+ny eyes.

"Wipe your drool before saying that. I have stuff to do in my room, so see you in the evening. Don't disturb me!"

Slurp.
"Oh, no. This is because looking at you reminded me of pork belly. You haven't forgotten our deal, right?"
Ian slurped up the drool on the corners of his mouth and spoke.

Due to the bet they had before winter, he had weaseled a meat party out of Abel.

"Haha, of course. I have it here."
Abel laughed while looking at Ian and Loki gulping, again. These people were simply unable to resist Korean food.

"Wow, I look as handsome as ever!"

Swoosh-
Leaving behind his friends, Abel entered his secret room. Finally! It was time to research ego magic. He had just barely enough mana to get started.

Tap tap tap tap tap.
Abel pressed the b.u.t.tons on his calculator and thus began a long string of calculations yet again.
