'System, can you check if any of these zombies have a core inside them?'
[None] the system gave him a straight answer.
'Figures,' Long Yu was just asking the system for the sake of it. It hasn't even been an hour since the mutation, how could a core have grown inside any of them.
Since there wan't any use in leaving them alive, he eliminated all the zombies on the ground with his UMP.
To make sure he did not miss any on the first floor, he climbed onto a slot machine and played the ringtone again.
Sure enough, there were a few more zombies that came running at the sound. Unfortunately, they were all greeted with a bullet in the head before they could even reach him.
As for the second floor, he could not be bothered to clear it since he had already taken everything that is valuable.
Long Yu walked back into the room and went inside the armoury to retrieve the duffle bags full of firearms.
On his out, he heard a m.u.f.fled cry coming somewhere near his feet.
'Oh right, there's still this guy.' Because the middle aged man had been quiet the whole time, his presence slipped Long Yu's mind.
After a moment of hesitation, he bent down to remove the duct tape that was binding the man's legs and mouth. He left the duct tape on his wrists alone, since he did not know if the man might retaliate.
"You! What have you done? Who sent you? Why did you kill my workers!?" the man whose mouth was freed, sent a flurry of questions at Long Yu in anger.
If the middle age man had not helped him in unlocking the vault, Long Yu would not have even bothered to release him.
Anyone who ranks in a high position in such an industry, must surely not be a good person. Of course, he could also be a totally upright person who just so happens to land a job in the gambling industry. However, Long Yu would rather believe in the former.
After releasing him, Long Yu directly carried the bags and walked out of the room.
"Aghh! What have you done!!?" he heard a hysterical scream coming from behind. It seems the man had finally saw what happened to the vault.
"Try not to make so much noise when you go out there… you'll die.." Long Yu left him a final piece of advice before disappearing out the door.
Instead of swaggering out the casino front entrance, Long Yu surveyed the area to make sure the coast was clear. After all, it always pays to be cautious.
...
Inside the casino, a man in a black crumpled suit could be seen pacing up and down in a room littered with bodies.
He was holding a mobile phone in his hand, deciding whether he should make the call. This person was the middle aged man that Long Yu just released.
Finally, after gathering courage from who knows where, he dialled the number on the phone.
"Hel- h.e.l.lo boss… we have a problem…" the man's timid voice could be heard on the other side of the phone.
"What the f*ck do you want? Can't you see I'm busy!?" The receiver who just answered the call sounded really impatient, and endless distress could be heard in his tone.
"These motherf*cking underlings dare have the guts to turn on me! Shoot them! Kill them all!" the boss's angry shouts could be heard, along with sounds of screams and gunshots in the background.
After good while of shouting, the boss's voice was directed towards the phone again. "I don't care what the f*ck it's about, get it done! Otherwise, I'll kill you too!"
*Doot* *Doot* *Doot*
Before the middle-aged man managed to speak, the line was abruptly cut.
There was only one thought in the man's mind, "I'm dead for sure.."
Little did he know that his boss would not even be able to enter Nanjing city, let alone kill him.
....
*Tak*
Long Yu got onto the car and locked the door. Fortunately, there wasn't any zombie nearby where he parked, so he was able to get to his car without a hitch.
Due to the lack of s.p.a.ce, he had to throw out couple boxes of food to make s.p.a.ce for the newly acquired guns. Now that he had obtained such a large amount of currency, the loss of a small part of his supplies was nothing.
Long Yu had considered dragging along a small caravan behind his Black Shark. However, he decided not to since it would hinder the manoeuvrability of the car, especially when he needs to escape from something.
"Big brother, you're back. Where did you go?" Xixi had awoken not long ago and was worriedly waiting in the car.
"Don't worry, I just needed to get a few things. Now that everything is prepared, we're going to leave Nanjing city to find your mother." Long Yu comforted her in a gentle tone while rubbing her head.
"Mama! Big brother, you know where mama is?" Xixi's sleepiness was blown away as she asks him excitedly.
Although the little girl enjoyed spending time with this big brother of hers, she was still worried about her mother after all. It is only because she trusts Long Yu's promise, that she is able to keep a smile on a face all the time.
Leaving Nanjing city was not an abrupt decision by Long Yu. He had decided on it when he realised that his chances of finding a stage 1 mutated core in the city, during the early period, would be extremely low.
It was not that he didn't wanted to wait, but because he was running out of time. According to the countdown timer on the top right of his vision, he only has less than three days to find a core. Past that, and he would have to join the ranks of those walking creatures.
Just based on the millions of zombies roaming around the city, trying to search for a stage 1 zombie would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
Besides, Long Yu still needed to search for Xixi's mother. The longer he takes, the slimmer her chance of survival. As for the possibility of her turning into a zombie or successfully mutating, that would have to depend on her luck.
Having all that said, Long Yu had a feeling that the girl's mother's ability to survive the previous attack at the hypermarket, was not pure luck.
