"Heh, you go first again. I want to see how you will deal with this one!"
Smiling awkwardly, I looked towards Charmander, only to notice that it was looking back at me.
I expected a mixture of fear and doubt... But Charmander's expression was confident.
With only one look, I understood that it was going to stop at nothing to win.
"Alright, no need for any words. Charmander, use Dragon Dance once more!"
Hearing my orders, Charmander roared, it's fire bursting with even more strength than before.
I'm going to try and boost him up as much as I can to beat this Onix.
"Oh, no you don't. Onix, use Rock-Tomb!"
Onix let out a low growl, and multiple rocks appeared in midair. They then started plummeting towards the area that Charmander was in.
Using the System's help and my mental skills, I quickly and efficiently calculated the landing spots of every single rock in a split second.
Feeling my head start to ache, I told Charmander where to position himself so as to not take any damage.
When the rocks landed, a ma.s.sive cloud of dust was lifted. I couldn't see Charmander, but thankfully, Onix stood out like a sore thumb.
I looked to my right and saw that Charmander's health was still at full on the screen. Letting out a breath in relief, I gave out new orders.
"Charmander! Take advantage of the sand's cover and use Dragon Dance two more times!"
Hearing my words, Brock's expression turned serious.
"Onix! use your tail and blow away the sand!"
"ONIX!"
With a loud shout, Onix's ma.s.sive body twisted and it sent a ma.s.sive airwave that blew away the sand.
I had to place a hand in front of my face due to the wind pressure.
Onix sure was a heavy Pokemon.
When the Sand disappeared, Charmander was nowhere to be seen. Heh. That crafty little one is probably hiding behind some rock.
"Okay, Charmander! Climb on top of Onix and reach for his head!"
Out of nowhere, a small orange little lizard popped out and quickly started climbing on top of Onix from its tail.
Its speed was too much for the rocky snake.
"Good! Use scratch on its eyes!"
With determination, Charmander reached Onix's head and scratched its eyes repeatedly.
Onix then closed its eyes and lifted its head in pain, throwing Charmander up in the air as it did so.
The HP bar on its head was thus depleted by almost half in one hit.
"Interesting... Onix, now that Charmander is in the air it has nowhere to go! Catch it with Bind!"
Oh c.r.a.p. This is bad!
"Charmander! Use Ember at full Power on Onix's face!"
Although the flames did some damage, it was only trivial. Onix emerged from them with only a few burns and caught Charmander in a body-lock before it could land.
"Now it's over! Onix, use bite"
If Onix Bites Charmander with that ma.s.sive jaw, it's an instant loss for us... What can I do? What should I do?
---------------
As Shawn was panicking for the first time in a while, Charmander's eyes started glistening.
It watched as a ma.s.sive mouth came its way... Unimpressed and with a determined expression.
Within its eyes, a fire burned.
A strong desire to win was lit in its heart!
---------------
I watched as something incredible happened once more.
Before the bite could reach it, Charmander's body started to radiate a blinding light.
Its body grew in size, and its face started to elongate. It even grew a small horn on the back of its head.
The fire on its tail burned more vigorously than ever, and the color of its skin took on a bloodthirsty red tint.
Charmander had evolved into Charmeleon.
"CHARMELEON!!! CHAR!!!"
With a loud shout that was heard through all of the corners of the gym, Charmeleon spat out a ma.s.sive ball of blue flames towards Onix's mouth.
"ONIX!!"
Onix roared in pain, and let go of Charmeleon. It's HP then dropped to a quarter.
[New Data for Charmeleon. Displaying for Host. Please have a look!]
While I was still in shock, The small transparent box appeared for me to see.

Unbelievable. How lucky do I have to be for it to learn Dragon Rage right when I needed it the most!
(A/N: For those who don't know, Dragon rage is a Dragon-Type move that deals the same amount of damage without caring for type or stats.)
With this and the evolutionary stat boost... We can win!
Brock stood there silently and nodded his head. He had a look of acknowledgment on his face.
"Charmeleon! Don't wait for Onix to stand up and use Dragon Rage once more to finish it off!"
With a shout, Charmander's head tilted up and a ma.s.sive blue fireball started forming on top of it. It almost doubled it in size.
When the ball was fully formed, Charmeleon threw it in Onix's direction. A ma.s.sive explosion occurred and the building trembled.
Onix's Health bar finally plummeted to zero and it fainted once and for all.
"We did it, Charmeleon!"
"Char! Char!"
With my arms wide open, I ran towards Charmeleon and hugged it as hard as I could.
I don't care what other people think of me, I'm just so d.a.m.n happy right now.
This is the first step of many in my journey... And I overcame it thanks to Charmeleon!
Seeing us celebrate, Brock went to his Onix and patted it on the forehead before retrieving it into its Pokeball. He then walked over to us.
"The reason for my defeat was the trust and love you hold for your Pokemon. Charmeleon responded to that trust and evolved at the perfect time, giving you the key to victory."
"As the leader of the Pewter-city gym, and as a representative of the Indigo league, I hereby present to you the Boulder Badge! Take it, it's yours!"
Following that sentence, Brock took out a small, grey badge from his pocket and gave it to me.
I admired it for a while before showing it to Charmeleon and placing it in my badge-holder.
"You showed great ability in directing your Pokemon in battle, and the tactics that you employed were flawless. I have to admit, you are the rookie trainer with the most potential that I have ever seen. Now, I hope that you fulfill that huge potential of yours."
"Thanks, Brock-San. It was a great battle."
Bowing, I turned around and left through the door that I entered from with a smile plastered on my face. Charmeleon was also smiling confidently.
"I have to admit... I was wrong. You are a strong trainer, no doubt about that."
As I was leaving, the trainer from earlier walked out of nowhere. He looked devastated.
Well, I guess that even he can apologize...
"Even so, I still think that going in with a fire type was a dumb decision!"
Aaand here we go again.
"Look, I don't have time for pleasantries. What is it that you want?"
He smirked, and his gla.s.ses started s.h.i.+ning out of nowhere as he flicked them a little.
"My name is Norio Nagayama. I am an aspiring Pokemon trainer, just like you!"
