Walking down the streets, I nudged the wheel of b.u.mpy cheese with my face. Whispers of curiosity, confusion, and disgust filled my ears.
"What is that thing doing?"
"Do you think that it's a Beast Man?"
"Eww, gross. It can't be. It doesn't have a collar on."
"Maybe it ran away? Rotten thing. Doesn't know its place."
"Should we throw a rock at it?"
I sighed internally. Instead of fussing over their offensive words, I turned my attention towards Miceter.
When I turned around, I saw a snake made of sausages slowly slithering in my direction. I couldn't see Miceter at all. He was completely hidden behind the sausage he was holding.
This whole scenario was hilariously ridiculous.
"Do you need any help?" I asked once Miceter caught up.
"Nope! I'm fine, Mister!" Miceter quickly replied. "I can carry this just fine! Shoot, I can even carry a building all the way to the North Ice Pole if you want me to, Mister!"
I shook my head, a smile spreading across my face. The image of Miceter carrying a huge building over his head made me want to laugh.
"Alright, then. Let me know if you need any help, okay?"
"Okay."
I continued to march forward while struggling to contain my laughter. I also made sure to avoid any puddles I saw. And, when I was too far away from Miceter, I made sure to wait while keeping the wheel of cheese standing with a paw.
Our somewhat peaceful march was interrupted when a loud shout disrupted the whispering crowd.
"Hey, wait up!"
Looking up from the dirty wheel of cheese, I felt as if I was dunked into a cold bucket of ice.
Running towards us from the distance was the stall vendor.
Oh c.r.a.p.
We didn't pay for the food. Is he chasing us down to get the money we owe?
But we don't have any!
Shoot!
Can't risk it!
GOTTA RUN!
Without waiting for the stall vendor to catch up, I s.n.a.t.c.hed Miceter up with my teeth and threw him onto my back. Then, like a fish in water, I slipped through the crowd, dodging kicking feet and das.h.i.+ng through skirts. Some shrieked in embarra.s.sment while others screamed in horror before stepping back.
"Hey!"
"Oh my G.o.d, get that thing away from me!"
"Eww, disgusting!"
"d.a.m.n Beast, get out of here!"
Under the loud voices of the crowd, Miceter's voice could be heard.
"Hey, Mister! what'cha doin'? The nice man said to wait up!" Miceter innocently asked me. "And what about the food?"
"Just leave it!" I barked, taking a sharp turn into a dark alley.
And just like that, I was running through the maze of alleys and cobblestone streets until I ran out of breath.
Funnily enough, we stopped right in front of the Puppet Show stall.
Almost as if it were fate...
Just kidding.
I purposefully came here so Miceter could be distracted.
I didn't want Miceter to end up feeling guilty about not waiting for the "Nice Man" and end up dwelling on it.
