"I'll remain by your side forever, Resetarits," she purred.
"Until my last death, Lottatna," he replied softly.
She took a deeper breath and continued to hold him until they needed to eat.
Resetarits let her go then and she stood. She helped him to his feet then wrapped one arm around his waist. She tangled their tails together and had him help make dinner—one handed. It was a little awkward at first, but he came to realize something as they worked in this fas.h.i.+on. He was here to help and support Lottatna as much as she was here to help and support him. The give and take was of mutual benefit. It also opened the door for them to start communicating their needs to the other instead of trying to suffer with them in silence.
Lottatna smiled more in that hour than Resetarits had ever seen since she moved in across from him. Seeing her smile made him smile, which was something he hadn't really done since Licus' change. When they finally got dinner ready, Lottatna didn't change her hold. She would alternate eating a bite then feeding him a bite. He did the same, but was glad she didn't try and make them wash the dishes that way.
Resetarits washed the dishes while Lottatna rotated her soaking leather clothes. He was just finis.h.i.+ng and turned to see Lottatna sitting on the floor with several decks of cards. She taught him many card games. A handful of games where no touch was involved, and just as many that were compet.i.tive and got very touchy. We stopped playing about 9:40pm and left the apartment building long enough to watch the sunset. They leaned against the building and Lottatna locked her fingers in his while they watched.
"Any job prospects, Resetarits?" she asked.
"Nothing until the beginning of August," he replied.
Lottatna nodded. "Are you okay to come with me to my appointment tomorrow? Just in case this doesn't work."
"Sure. Do you know what you'll be telling your clients?"
"Not yet. I'm still not sure how to word what it is they need to be aware of before I continue working with them."
He nodded and they watched the last of the sun disappear from view.
They kissed then returned to the apartment to sleep.
Lottatna didn't sleep well. She stirred often with the frequent tenderness that came and went from her abdomen. At one time during the night she got up and used the bathroom before she rotated her black leather clothes once more. Then she sat by the bin and let her tails move how they would. She ran her hand across her abdomen. Her arms paused briefly as she felt each of her nipples through the skin of her pouch.
Through her skin she could feel six hard nipples. Feeling that during a ma.s.sage would freak out anyone, but then again, no one would willing touch someone who looked as she now did.
Resetarits stirred and sat up when she didn't return to bed. "Lottatna?"
She turned from the bin, walking on all four to return to his side. He wrapped himself around her a few of his tails weaving into hers.
"What's the matter?" he sighed.
"I know I shouldn't doubt the guidance I have been given, but…," she sighed. "I really don't want this to be my client's reality."
"I understand. I was hoping it didn't have to be yours either."
She nodded before Resetarits kissed her lightly on the shoulder.
"Was there something else on your mind?" he asked as she slid her fingers into his hair.
"How soon will the pouch noticeably start expanding?"
"Depends on how many babes were conceived. It could be as early as two months or as late as four."
"Okay."
"Are you worried?"
"Just thinking how I would explain a 12 month pregnancy to my clients since my old people only carry offspring for 9 months."
"Makes sense. If I think of anything I'll let you know."
"Thank you, Resetarits."
"You're welcome, Lottatna."
She kissed his nose then found his lips. Her eyes filled with tears that slid down her face as she fell asleep, still concerned for her clients.
When Resetarits woke next, Lottatna was sitting on the couch. She looked like she was concentrating hard. He purred and joined her on the couch. He wrapped his arms around her and his chin rested on her shoulder. His hand rubbed her abdomen, tracing circles around her nipples.
"Good morning, Resetarits," she said.
"Good morning, Lottatna," he said.
They kissed.

"What are you working on?" he asked.
"A note for my clients. They need to know the risks before I continue to be their facilitator."
"Okay." He rubbed his sea lion nose against hers before entering the bathroom. He showered. Then he entered the kitchen to find some breakfast. "Have you eaten, Lottatna?" he asked.
"I have."
He nodded.
She put an envelope together for Bret and put it with her note and keys. These she set on her work bag before turning to her soaking leather outfit. Carefully, she pulled out the pants, wringing out the excess flower essences. She put them on. She curled her tails to be able to fit them down the legs easier before letting them relax. Lottatna's energy s.h.i.+fted dramatically and he turned to face her. Strong sadness came from Resetarits. Something was very wrong, but he couldn't see it. Lottatna felt his sorrow and turned as he stepped out of the small kitchen. His eyes s.h.i.+mmered as they filled with tears. Lottatna stepped away from her bin and approached Resetarits.
"What's the matter?" she asked.
"I… can't find the words for it," he yipped as his tears spilled over.
She pulled him in an embrace. His legs rubbed against her still wet leather pants. A different feeling came from Resetarits, accompanied by an awful smell. Lottatna closed her eyes as her own eyes filled with tears.
"So that's what death smells like," she said softly.
Resetarits nodded.
It was worse than a city dump and vomit on a hot, dry summer day.
Lottatna s.h.i.+fted her stance, rubbing her wet legs all over his.
Resetarits grabbed a fistful of Lottatna's short hair. "What are you doing?" he whispered.
"The flower essences are s.h.i.+fting our frequency."
"That's not what it feels like to me."
"What do your legs feel like?"
"Like they always do, but I feel disconnected from you and the growing babes."
"There may be a way to change that." She kissed his tears away as she let go. "Gather the clothes you want to wear today and bring them to me."
"What good will that do?"
"I want to try something."
Resetarits nodded, but still turned away dejectedly. Lottatna returned to her bin and wrung out the leather jacket. She slipped it on, but didn't zip it up yet. Resetarits knelt beside her, his tails tucked between his legs. He handed her his clothes and she washed them in the flower essence blend. After several was.h.i.+ngs, she wrung out his clothes and gave them to him. He put them on as Lottatna dunked one of her tank tops in the solution. The death smell increased while Lottatna dressed. The small crinkle in her nose let him know his own death smell increased as well.
Lottatna took off the jacket when she had sufficiently washed her tank top. She slipped it on before putting the jacket back on. She wrung out the gloves before finding a spray bottle and pouring the left over solution into it. She screwed on the lid before spraying it all over her head and neck. Resetarits squeaked and reached out to stop her before his hand dropped. Lottatna turned to him as his head bowed and eyes closed and sprayed his head, neck, arms, hands, and feet. When they were both covered, she waited a moment and watched Resetarits. His lips s.h.i.+fted some before his head tipped to the side. He was thinking. He was feeling. He kept his eyes closed and took several deep breaths.
"There you all are," he said softly. His large eyes opened again to look at her.
"Good. You've picked up on the s.h.i.+ft," Lottatna replied.
He shook his head. "It makes the stench of death so much worse."
"As it does for you as well, Resetarits. Be a.s.sured that as we process what this blend is meant to do, the stench should resolve and disappear."
"I hope you are right."
She leaned over and kissed Resetarits.
He kissed her back, hard. "I hope it helps resolve your desire for suicide, as well."
"I hope it does, too. Are you ready to go?" she asked.
He nodded.
