Not long after, Ryan called him to inform him that he was at the airport, Carl directed him to where he was parked. On seeing Carl, Ryan ran like a child to his parents. He was all smiles, jumping about. Carl was glad that his brother was okay. From the report he got, he had a heart attack. As Ryan hugged Carl, Carl embraced him while scolding him, "You still jump around like a kid." He withdrew and then ruffled his hair before taking his box and placing it in the truck.
Ryan opened the door while asking, "Brother, is this your car?" Carl simply nodded while he started the engine. "Wow, it's nice. Someday, I'll get my own car too." Carl chuckled before saying, "Yes, you will."
"Hope you're hungry." Carl said, concentrating on the road. "I could eat." Ryan said in response, staring outside the car. Carl glanced at him briefly before facing the road again. "You got fatter, that's good." He commented. Ryan blushed. Ever since he started living with his grandparents, they kept loading him with food. "I'm not fat, I simply gained a few extra pounds." Carl looked at him, laughing at Ryan's expression.
"I see.. what would you like to eat then? You can request for anything." Carl said as the sped up. Ryan's eyes twinkled. "I guess you have a great job. Then first of all, I want ice cream and then I want.." Before he could conclude, Carl interrupted him to tease him. "I see why you're fat, you've been eating junk food, haven't you?"
Ryan frowned, his grandparents stopped him from eating junk food, this is his only chance to eat junk food before returning home. He was tired of all the vegetables and soups. He had been eating healthy ever since he moved in with them.
"Not really, I have been turned into a vegetarian." He said, lowering his head. After he got out of the hospital, they said they didn't want him to return. So he hadn't eaten steak for a few months. But more than meat, he wanted to eat sugar. "Why? Did anything happen?" Carl questioned. On hearing Carl, Ryan froze, he didn't want to make his brother worry. So he laughed nervously before asking, "What could happen?"
Carl parked in front of an ice cream shop. "I know when you're lying." After saying that, he opened the door. Ryan followed after him. They walked into the shop together. Ryan's mood instantly brightened when he saw the sundaes and pastries. Pointing to different pastries and ice creams, he asked the salesgirl to pack some for take away before he sat down to eat the sugar he had long been waiting for.
Carl had not forgotten their earlier conversation but he didn't want to spoil the mood, he decided he was going to ask him later. While Ryan was munching away the pastries and eating the ice cream in satisfaction. Carl was wondering what would have gone wrong to make him move out of the house and even suffer a heart attack. He took Ryan as a child, his child, he couldn't understand why their parents were like that. His expression was dark and Ryan noticed it.
He didn't like the aura about Carl so he choose to distract him, "Here brother, try this doughnut and this sundae." His plan worked cause Carl quickly pushed his thoughts aside as he took the doughnut from his brother. After taking a bite, he frowned, "Too sugary. Don't complain of sugar rush or stomach ache later." Carl said with dissatisfaction. Ryan nodded. Pa.s.sing Carl another pastry, he said, "Try this one, it isn't sugary, just the right amount of sugar." Carl accepted it and nodded his head in agreement. Ryan pushed the sundae to him, "Try it together with this." Carl accepted.
"What do you want to do next?" Carl asked him as he ate the pastries along with the ice cream.
"I want to see your home and your roommate." Ryan said in reply. "Sure, then you'll tell me what happened to you, you're to leave nothing out." Carl said looking into Ryan's eyes. Ryan began sweating. He wasn't sure if he should tell his brother considering his relations.h.i.+p with their parents wasn't good right now. "Okay." He said, tapping his feet against the floor.
