"You'll be charged for obstruction of justice if you don't say anything!" The first policeman kept shouting, while Carl blocked him out totally.
Not long after, perhaps the policeman got tired of shouting, he stormed out after kicking his seat.
The second policeman who had been silent from the start was actually sent by the King to observe and ensure no bodily harm comes to Carl. So after his colleague left, he took out his phone and made a report.
…
Almost two hours later, the lawyer from H. Gregory Law Firm arrived. After exchanging pleasantries, he walked into the station with Kim to speak with the police officers and get a clear understanding of the situation.
After listening to the police officers, the old lawyer alongside Kim, made their way to the room where Carl was detained.
"There's no need to be nervous, he's only a suspect therefore he cannot be detained for more than twenty-four hours without evidence." The old lawyer a.s.sured Kim.
Kim let out a sigh of relief. She should know this much but her reasoning was clouded at the moment. She was just too worried about Carl.
As soon as the door opened, she saw Carl sitting quietly staring into s.p.a.ce. Once he turned he saw her, immediately he got up from his seat and she dashed towards him, embracing him. It felt like years since she last saw him.
Feeling her body once more, smelling her familiar scent made him relax. He lightly patted her back. With much difficulty, he drew back.
"Hubby, this is Lawyer Anderson, from H. Gregory Law Firm," Kim said, gesturing to the lawyer, turning to the lawyer, she said, "Mr. Anderson, this is my husband, Carl… Stallone Blackwood."
Shaking hands, they both said "Nice to meet you."
The second policeman remained on his seat like a spectator, his presence ignorable. But of course, he was spotted by the lawyer who asked him for privacy. As soon as he left, they all sat down.
"I understand that you've been suspected of money laundering and also charged with concealing your ident.i.ty in order to deceive.
I'd like you to be honest with me, we can only work together if you tell me the truth and only the truth."
Carl nodded, "My real name is Stallone Blackwood and Carl is what my parents call me, after coming to this State with nothing, I decided to go by the name Carl not to draw attention to myself.
When my boss, Chamberlain approached me to work for him, he was well aware of that fact. Also my wife is witness to how he pestered me to work for him even though I initially refused."
Mr. Anderson nodded in understanding, before posing his first question, "You said you came to the State with nothing, why is that?"
"I was kicked out of the house."
Mr. Anderson remained calm as he spoke, revealing nothing, "Why is that?"
"It's a private matter within the Blackwood family."
"You mean the Blackwood family of State E?"
"Yes."
As if to reaffirm, he questioned, "That Blackwood family? The aristocrats?"
To which Carl said, "Yes."
"Then why did you refuse to work for Chamberlain Stan when he first approached you?"
"Well, I was not interested in working for someone else, I just wanted to live with my wife." As those words left his mouth, he grabbed her palm, intertwining their fingers. Of course he didn't forget that she had called him hubby. To be sincere, he wasn't really interested in the talk with the lawyer, he was trying to calm his excited heart.
"Why did you change your mind?" Of course their little action didn't skip the eyes of the old lawyer.
"He was persistent." Carl made no move to say Chamberlain had forced him to work for him and even threatened him with his wife.
Mr. Anderson nodded as he brought out a note to jot down important details. "So what did your job entail?"
"At first he told me to work as an independent contractor, trading stocks on behalf of the company. He gave me a target and if I hit the said target, I was free to go. This was before the company went public. After it went public, he gave me the position of CFO."
"As the CFO what did your job entail?"
"There was no change, I was only given a team to work with to make my job easier. I did nothing but trade."
"I was told that you were an ordinary manager a few months back and your salary isn't sufficient for you to live like you do, so how can you afford it?"
"I have businesses no one knows about. Some hotels, nothing too fancy and Gla.s.s Security, all under Gla.s.s Holdings."
Mr. Anderson stared at Carl for a bit before nodding. It wasn't strange that he would have secret businesses.
"What did you tell the police?"
"I haven't said a word to them."
"That's good, I'll invite them back in to answer their questions on your behalf."
As soon as the policemen returned, the old lawyer a.s.sured them that they were ready to talk.
Mr. Anderson was able to answer every question thrown at Carl without missing a beat. From why he went by Carl Mike rather than Stallone Blackwood to his secret businesses they were welcome to investigate.
"My client is done answering your questions, since you have no evidence against him, I believe he has no business being here. You can go ahead and carry out your investigation properly before making an arrest."
With those words, he got up to leave, both Kim and Carl followed after him, leaving the first policeman gritting his teeth. As for the second policeman, he expected this much. After all, his boss only tipped off the FCB, the main evidence that would take down the Stans, that would make them choose a sacrificial lamb would be released later. This was only step one and it was quite obvious that his colleague was working under Charles Stan and a little bit green behind the ears.
Maybe his colleague felt Carl would be easily intimidated since he's young and perhaps forced to admit crimes he didn't commit from the pressure.
Taking out his phone, he reported the progress to his boss.
