I sent a side long glance at Ella, who was standing above the beast panting. I could feel the anger that was raging through her. Her blade rose up again to finish the beast, and I frowned.
"Stop."
The blade didn't halt so I spoke again, louder.
"Stop!"
The blade finally slowed down before stopping mid air. It stopped just above the head of the defeated beast. My frown grew deeper as I looked at Ella, who was shaking her head and calming down.
Before the fight started we had talked about giving Kuro all the kills. It was the fastest way for her to Level and she wasn't far off level 13. Once she hit 13, we could pick up our speed again.
The problem was her new skill, 'Berserk Rage'. After dinner last night she had acquired the skill, as well as the fire skill. It gave a ridiculous boost to her physical abilities, when she gets angry, but was detrimental to her INT stat.
Like the name berserk, if left long enough I was sure that Ella would go on a killing spree. I hadn't been able to gauge the true extent of the problem until today, as we started to fight. I had never realized how much anger was produced by her, while we were fighting.
It was fine at the start and I was excited that her abilities had progressed so much. She was easily able to run down prey and disable them. The problem came with time. As the skill said, the immediate activation of the skill, which was a pa.s.sive, would reduce her INT by 25%. This was not noticeable when she started, but with the increase in time and lowering of her INT she was becoming, for not a better word, savage.
I had to verbally reign in her desire to kill more than just this time, as she wouldn't listen to me. The first time it happened I wasn't ready and she had killed the beast. After that was done and she cooled down, she was very regretful.
The way she described it, was that her instincts and emotions would go out of control and everything else would be blocked out, even the sound of my voice. I had tried it again with kin telepathy, but that didn't help much.
I clenched my fist as Kuro moved in to finish off the prowlers. Ella moved back over to me, with small splatters of blood on her armour. She had her head lowered and I could feel the sadness that was welling up.
This wasn't her fault!
That was the thought in my head, as I started to pat her hair and console her. She felt bad about disobeying my orders, and kept feeling down when these instances happened. The problem was at the start, when she realized how the skill was affecting her, she had gotten angrier and this had lead to even worse a situation, where she almost attacked me.
She had cried after that happened, and I had no words to help. Kuro didn't but in and realized that something was wrong. I hadn't told her about the skill, but I had asked her about the berserker cla.s.s last night.
She hadn't known what skill they got with their cla.s.s or anything too detailed. What she did know was that all the people that would get the berserk cla.s.s were battle maniacs. I was racking my head trying to think of a way to take control of this dangerous skill, when my danger perception went off.
I had been patting Ella's head, but in the next moment I didn't waste any time as I dived down and pulled Ella with me. She was surprised with the abrupt motion, but then also seemed to catch on.
"Down!"
I screamed out for Kuro who was still near us and she just reacted in time, as a few arrows flew by.
*Thunk*
*Thunk*
The arrows lodged themselves into the ground as I looked at their sharpened tips.
Elves?!
I knew right away that the arrows in front of me were from elves, they were identical to the ones Ella had been using. As I moved to get up the ground beneath us started to get wetter and roots shot out from the sides to bind my legs and back.
I panicked as I felt the root tighten.
Not good!
Magic?
I stressed my muscles to pull on my binds and luckily they broke with a snap, if they had been st.u.r.dier I would have been in serious trouble. I hadn't been able to reach for my sword.
Pulling myself up, I saw that Ella had also gotten free, but Kuro was still trapped.
"(@#?"
I heard exclamations from the west and saw a group of elves appear. Their faces were colored in shock as they looked at both me and Ella getting up. They must have thought we were done for. I didn't give them time to think, as my aura gushed out. They were just within its range.
They tensed as my pressure weighed down on them and Ella dashed out. One or 2 tried to raise their bows in our direction and take aim. I saw one of them pointed at Kuro, who was still bound, and had to quickly save her.
I dashed over and cut her binds fast. After that was done, I roughly grabbed her by the shoulder and flipped her.
*Whoos.h.!.+*
I was surprised as the arrows. .h.i.t the dirt right where she had been. It was quicker than I expected. With her safe and out of the way, I dashed behind Ella. I a.s.sessed the opponents critically and counted their numbers.
There were 4 archers and 2 mages. I was guessing they were mages because they were using staff's and what happened with the root binding from before. I quickly used a.n.a.lyze so I could understand the situation.
They shouldn't be much stronger than the ones I found before, but I had to be careful.
Name: Kail
Race: Elf
s.e.x: Male
Age: 304
Level: 14
Job: Mage, Earth Mage
I almost smacked myself in the head because I forgot that I couldn't see them like normal monsters. a.n.a.lyze didn't tell me much, other than their level. But I could still use that.
I used it on the rest of them and quickly found out their average level was only level 14. Taking into account the fact they had cla.s.ses, I still reckoned I could take them. The job Earth mage got me a bit wary, and I would have to be careful about their magic, but other than that nothing stood out.
Ella was getting angry again, as she made her way closer to the Elves, with the increase from her rage skill, she increased in speed and no matter how much they aimed the eves couldn't hit. Of course I didn't care if she killed them this time, but the longer she was like this, the worse it could go.
I pushed myself to catch up as Ella, finally reached them. The mages were chanting something in a loud voice, but were interrupted as Ella dived into their group. The mages were fl.u.s.tered and completely useless, as Ella started to swing her sword. Both were decapitated and cut up in seconds.
I finally reached them at this point and fear had entered the archers' eyes. One tried to flee, as the other 3 went to attack Ella. I went after the one that ran and quickly finished him off. By the time I turned around, Ella was once again done with the other 3 and started eating them.
I guess her emotions propelled her to eat them. I looked into her mind to see if she was still fine, and thankfully she was.
'Alright?'
She asked me the question quietly to gain permission and I gave her a nod. She wanted to eat the elves because they tasted so good, and we hadn't talked about, not kill them. I saw nothing wrong with it.
But the problem with the berserk skill was still annoying.
I sighed quietly too myself as Kuro made her way over and then went to collect all their globes. They dropped regular gear and entertainment points, nothing special. It was when I got to the mages that something different popped up. A small book appeared and I appraised it.
"So even that can be dropped."
I was so surprised that I voiced my thoughts out loud.
(Elf Language (Pa.s.sive)- (Partial 1/10) – User will grasp the basic language of the elves and be able to understand and speak fluently with said language.)
I quickly crushed the globe and the new skill appeared in my status menu. I was guessing that I would need another 9 before I could truly learn the skill. It made me wish there were more mages to kill. I went to check the other dead mage and he also had the skill drop.
Is there a particular reason that the books have only dropped from mages? It was something to think about.
But there was another question that was on my mind, as I looked to the west.
Did these elves come to attack me, or was it a coincidence like the first time?
