It had been a full week since I had first visited the town; my life had fallen in to a pattern of killing zombies and unloading my gear.

I had a major windfall when I crushed all the globes that belonged to the gang, that had tried to kill me. Not to mention their gear, most of their exp and EP points also became mine.

Because I had taken out all those people just outside the city gate, whenever I would go back and visit the town people would now stay far away from me. Their looks of utter terror had affected me when I had first walked back into the city.

But after a few times I didn't care anymore. I had looked around at the other buildings in the town, but most of them weren't open. I had tried to force my way through some of the doors but a barrier stopped me from doing such actions.

They would probably be used when the protection period ends. But when would that happen?

Honestly after living another week in this h.e.l.l hole, I finally appreciated the protection period. Me and Ella would go out every day and kill zombies, one reason was the fact that Ella needed to eat something. The second reason and most important reason was we couldn't go anywhere without running into some.

The city was truly being overrun by zombies, something seemed to keep them pretty scattered the closer they got to the center of the city, and where the town was. But 1 day we had ventured out a bit further, and as we went, the amount of zombies tripled.

Even with me and Ella pressing our aura's out and attacking the numbers where staggering. We couldn't keep up the pressure and got fatigued too fast. It was something I had realized when I was fighting the gang. By exerting pressure on to them, I had swiftly drained my energy.

The more there were, the harder it was to keep them all under control, it was because of this reason that I had been injured while I was fighting them. Thank G.o.d I had regeneration or I might have come out with some permanent damage.

Ella had been really worried when I had finally found her later that day. Even since then she usually rushed into fights more aggressively and tried to do most of the fighting. This isn't that bad sometimes as she is stronger than me, but in group fights it has become dangerous.

I have scolded her a few times when she has just rushed in.

The only person that talked to me anymore when I went into the town was Kuro, I try to avoid her as much as possible, but she somehow finds me and asks me all sorts of questions. I try not to answer in much detail and finish my business very quickly, that unsettling feeling still hangs around her.

I haven't once seen her actually leave the town, but because I use a.n.a.lyze on her I could tell she went out. In this 1 week she has gone from level 1 to level 6, in my opinion this is a pretty impressive feat seeing as she was a level 1 killing zombies.

I haven't seen any weak infected or zombies under the level of 5 these days. Most of them are level 6-7 and the ones that are further out reach level 8-9. I still haven't seen a level 10 zombie yet, and I hope that the zombies don't evolve again when they do reach that.

It is highly probable that they will evolve at level 10, but I hope not. If it wasn't for the aura that Ella and I use, it would be a lot harder to kill them. Their speed and intelligence has been going up and causing much tougher fights.

The only up side of the amount of zombies and sometimes beasts, is the amount of EXP we are earning. With the increase in level the amount of Exp earned has gone up and nearly doubled. The ones that are level 7 and up give out 2000 Exp and speed up our leveling.

After a full week I'm about to reach level 10 and once that happens we could finally head towards the mountains.

I wanted to head up the mountains and find out what the golden light had left up there. The golden light that had hit the town only dropped 2 magic circles, and I had no clue what they did. Though I was sure that Kuro was involved somehow, it was a gut feeling.

I had tried to head that way 3 days ago, but at that time with the increase in zombies and difficulty, I decided it would be better when we were stronger. So we would grind zombies until level 10 then set out.

An interesting fact that I had noticed over the last week though was Ella's Imperial growth, it wasn't doing as much as expected. When I had leveled up to level 9, I had checked Ella's stats. With the amount of growth she has shown in the past, I was very expectant that her attributes would be off the scales.

She would eat many zombies every day, including beasts and yes sometimes humans. Though that would usually happen when I was in the town, people would find Ella and then attack her. Greed made some people stupid. If I saw Ella's stats with a.n.a.lyze I wouldn't attack her, it was plain stupid.

This had been Ella's status when she had leveled. I was surprised as I thought she would have a bigger boost in stats, thanks to Imperial growth. After checking the next 2 days, I saw that her status didn't rise at all.

Even after eating quite a few zombies it didn't change, which meant that the nutrition that they were giving to Ella's body just wasn't affecting it anymore. I saw a slight s.h.i.+ft upwards when she ate the level 9 zombies, but other than a small 1 or 2 points s.h.i.+ft, nothing else changed.

This would mean that Ella would have to eat higher quality zombies or lack of a better word, meat. I was slightly relieved that Ella wouldn't become completely over powered and leave me in the dust, but also disappointed that it wasn't the case. If it was, she could eat any low level zombies to increase her strength.

I had also seen a slight s.h.i.+ft in status when I level and had a minimal increase in my stats. Seeing as I only ate regular food and nothing like, zombies, beasts or others humans I was relieved.

The amount it went up was minimal though and I knew it couldn't stay that way. Try as I might I couldn't convince myself to eat a zombie, it was almost worse than cannibalism as they shared the same body type as human beings and I couldn't get my head around the act.

It was something that I knew was essential, because if I didn't indulge in such practices I would be left in the dust by Ella, and it would be of great benefit to me, but I couldn't force myself to do it.

I have resolved myself to try and eat the beasts that now prowl around the city some times, but they are a rare find. I would also then need to bring it somewhere to cook. I couldn't eat it raw. My teeth may be able to eat through their skin, but I wouldn't want to eat it with the blood and everything else.

Deciding that today was the day we would reach level 10, we set out early and I decided not to visit the town today.

We headed south and killed anything that moved. It didn't take long to find a zombie to kill and Ella got her stomach filled. It only took a short time actually to get the level. About 25 zombies after we started the blue box appeared in my face and we became level 10. I quickly pulled up Ella's status and allocated her Points.

While I was doing this I noticed that the Exp required for the next level was only 400,000. This was great as if it kept doubling it would become difficult to get to level 20 without picking up a cla.s.s. Before I could open up my own status though, a different blue box appeared in front of me.

(Level requirements met!)

My system was upgrading?

(Skill Points Function Returned!)

Skill points?

I opened up my status to look at the returned function and racked my brain for a good minute before I finally remembered.

Skill Points!

I had completely forgotten about them!

(Because of Kin function being installed into system, skill point function change updated.)

I finally remembered where I had heard of skill points before. It was back when the tutorial was being played, that they were mentioned. I had listened intently at the time to not miss anything, but in the end I had completely forgotten about them.

They were gained every level and could be used to evolve or upgrade a skill. This would have come in handy in many cases, I'm such an idiot. Why the h.e.l.l hadn't I seen them before?

The blue box from before had mentioned the kin function, and an upgrade. It must have disappeared from my status because I had imprinted on Ella. And seeing the shared points next to my normal points I could tell that we could use each other's points.

But how do I use them?

I concentrated on to 'Frozen rage' to see if anything had changed.

(Frozen Rage (Shared): LV (1 - 10) – Your rage is ever present and keeping you sharp, some people lose themselves in rage, not you. You use it to keep calm at all times and increase your reactions and responses. Permanent increase of 10% intelligence at all times. 10% Increase in INT and AGI when activated. Special Affect – affinity between skill and plain of existence has affected skill. When angry the skill Ice will pa.s.sively activate in surroundings. - 2 SP to level)

Right there at the end!

SP must mean Skill points, meaning I would need 2 points to level frozen rage. The end of the description even glowed in a dull gold, as if to indicate that I could use the skill points. I was so excited about this new function that I almost instantly clicked on it.

But I held myself back as I thought. These skill points could be used to evolve and upgrade a skill. It would be a waste to use such points in leveling a skill. Once they reach level 10 or maybe just the higher tier level's, such as 8 and 9. That would be the best time to use them.

And the best skill to use it one was of course Imprint!

This was the skill that connected me and Ella, and as it was strengthened, the more powerful both of us would become. It was only at level 6 and was already such a powerhouse of a skill, that to not upgrade it would be a waste.

It wasn't a skill that I could upgrade easily, such as frozen rage or some of the others that would grow in level the more we used them. It was a skill that was totally dependent on the bond between me and Ella, to increase it would be for the best.

Having made up my mind I pulled up Ella's status again to look at how many points it would cost to upgrade it.

Just as I was about to click on the imprint skill to see, I noticed that next to Ella's name and right on the Empress Cla.s.s Strain text, there was a golden glow. My hand stopped and couldn't help but click over to it.

What is this?

(Infected – Empress Cla.s.s Strain – 40 SP Points + Other conditions)

My eyes widened and I shook slightly as the information sunk in.

"Oh"

That was all that slipped out of my mouth as my brain started to churn. The evolution serum popped into my head with this new piece of information and they started to mesh together. I was slightly deflated as I realized that I wouldn't be able to use any of my Skill points. I had to save them.

If I was right and I would need SP to upgrade Ella's Strain, then I couldn't use them. I still had no clue when she would evolve, and she hadn't done so now, at level 10. I would have to hope that she would also not evolve by level 20 or there was no way I could possible increase her strain.

I needed 40 points to set everything into motion, without the points sharing, I would have to be level 40 and never have used any of my SP to do this. Even shared it wouldn't be until level 20 that I would be able to. By that time I would probably have the 10,000 EP necessary, but it would be tough.

40 Points was also the indication of how powerful the upgrade would be the more points used the better. Frozen rage was only 2 points and I hadn't even looked at imprint and I could tell it would be nowhere near 40 points.

I grit my teeth and closed that status in front of me. I would have to be in it for the long haul. Leveling imprint might be good, but that could come naturally.

I shook my head and beckoned Ella over.

"I need to head into the town for a short while. You won't have to go hunt by yourself, after I'm done, we'll have to prepare."

"Prepare for what?"

"We're going someplace with a lot of tasty meals."

"Yay!"

Ella bounced for joy as we moved towards the town. I hadn't lied to her as when we reached the mountains, there would be a lot of stronger zombies, and possible more beast. I don't know how long the trip would take, and we wouldn't be able to come back to the hospital every day.

I stared at the rising sun for a second as my thoughts wondered, we then continued on our way.

It was time to tackle the mountains.
