I took a moment to reminisce on what happened before we made our way out. I slowed down as we reached the door and took a look around. Looking through the windows of the hospital didn't prepare me for what I saw.
Outside was completely different from what I remembered. Cars where crashed into buildings and each other, as they were strewn around the place. The wind was cold and bleak as it howled through the area. Under growth of plants and foliage surprisingly had already started to grow on to cars and the sidewalk.
Plants shouldn't grow that fast! It had only been 6 days, what the h.e.l.l?
There was blood splashed on the ground in patches all over the place and dead bodies littered about, or more to say parts of bodies. The sight shocked me into a stupor and I took a while just staring at the outside.
The once bustling city that I remembered had been turned into something worse than a ghost town.
I couldn't even see any zombies walking about. Growls that I couldn't place were carried with the wind and entered my ears. I could distinguish the sound of moaning from zombies off in the distance.
"Awoooo!"
A load sound of a dog or wolf also traveled down and I pulled out my blade, more of those dame wolves.
I moved out of the building carefully, Ella moving next to me, I looked down at her every now and then, but she just showed a completely complacent face. She wasn't worried at all.
"Figures."
She looked up at me as I spoke, wondering what I meant. I just shook my head and then patted hers. I calmed myself down, we could do this!
Making our way out from the entrance we walked through the front car park heading towards the gate. Walking by some of the cars I could see the remains of a few people and splashed blood. All that did was get Ella hungry though and her feelings were sent over to me, she was impatient.
I decided to pick up the speed a bit, and we got to the gate fast. Walking out, the sky sc.r.a.pers of the surrounding block towered above us and blocked the sun, creating a gloomy atmosphere.
We kept making our way and searching around; I still hadn't seen any zombies yet. Where are they?
Walking by a few buildings I saw dried splashes of blood, littered with gla.s.s around them. I stopped and stared at the first one I found. It took me a few seconds before I could figure out what happened. The blood had been splattered around a central point and had dried out over the last few days.
Looking at the gla.s.s that was also littered about around and in the blood, I looked up. Around the 8th floor of the building one of the panes of gla.s.s had been broken. With my improved eyesight I could tell that there was some blood around the edges of the broken window pain.
s.h.i.+fting my vision back down, I knew that the person had jumped. Most likely when the apocalypse started he had been a survivor being chased and in his despair he jumped instead of waiting to be eaten.
I could almost image the madness he must have been in to jump.
Even after death it looked like the zombies had eaten his body and clothes, only leaving this blood splatter behind. Rage built up in me again for the G.o.d that had caused this and my head cooled. It made me stop and continue our journey.
Over the 200 meters I had already found another 5 cases of jumpers, none of the bodies left behind. Turning the corner to the building I finally caught sight of a zombie. It was the first one I had seen since the hospital.
It was making a slight moaning sound as it walked along with blood splattered on its body. I approached it in a sprint wanting to vent a little. Not wanting to have another stupid mishap, as soon as it reached my a.n.a.lyses' range, I used the skill.
It wasn't anything special, still a level 5 strength zombie. It took only one hit to kill it. Having decapitated the body Ella eagerly rushed up and started to eat the corpse. I could tell from our link that even though she was happy to finally eat something she didn't actually like the taste of it. I think she got a liking towards humans and royal cla.s.s zombies, nothing I could do about that.
After Ella was done we kept moving, I also stopped for a minute and had a quick bite.
Later as we started moving further and further away we ran into more zombies, it was easy to tell when there were a lot of them, the sound of moaning gave us an early warning for the large groups. We killed another 12 before spotting a group of 20.
When I saw the group, my mind tingled with danger and I quickly dragged Ella in the other direction. I think if we put our lives on the line we would've been able to take them, but no use putting ourselves in danger.
Fight the battles we can win, I wouldn't have taken on Zoey if there was another way out of the hospital. But because there wasn't, we had to; I don't want another situation like that to happen.
Continuing to search around we ran into a few strength and agility type zombies, but we didn't run into any mutants. I had never seen another mutant other than the one that was in the hospital, I would think they're rare but I don't think that was the case. It was a gut feeling.
I also think they were the most dangerous, with the ability to use skills such as 'Ice' or maybe something worse, they were unpredictable.
As I was thinking about the various types of zombies that I haven't seen yet, a golden glow suddenly lit up the sky.
