I breathed in raggedly as I winced in pain. My left arm was still broken from that things grab. It wasn't hurting as much as when it broke, thanks to regeneration, but it still hurt a lot.

I tried to keep it still as I gulp for air. Turning my gaze over to the golden globe I knew I would be getting something good again, every time I open one of them I get something good, like my storage ring.

(50 entertainment points Earned)

(Swift Blade (Green) – A fast and st.u.r.dy blade, good enough to kill some zombie. Should hold out till you find something better, or die. One or the other.)

I frowned slightly as I saw the first line but then saw that it actually contained something else. This was the first time that a globe had dropped 2 things, and it didn't disappoint.

It was a green level item, so much better than a white one. Looking at its description I wanted to smack that G.o.d though, "Find something better or die". I almost spat on the ground in reflex at the words. At least it says it can take care of a zombie. But I wouldn't put blind faith in the description; I would have to test it out.

Taking the blade out, the metal gleamed and seemed perfect in my eyes, though because I wasn't a weapon smith I couldn't tell if it was, it still increased my confidence. Putting it to the side I concentrated on recovering my strength as I looked at my status.

I had gained a whopping 500 Exp for that kill, meaning without the exp share, it would have been 1000. This totally eclipsed all others before it.

Seeing the exp it rammed home the danger of what I had just fought. If I take exp as a measure of strength and compare the gains of killing one of the previous wolves to that zombie, it was 5 times stronger.

Though it didn't seem to be 5 times stronger, don't get me wrong it was a lot tougher than the wolves. But if it was 5 times as strong I wouldn't have stood a chance, even with Ella's help.

"Maybe the evolution?"

I voiced my thoughts and pondered on the subject, its stats were a lot stronger but the major increase of Exp must be because it had evolved from an infected. It just didn't make sense for the minimal increase in attributes to the greater reward of Exp.

I could only shake my head in the end and thank that d.a.m.ned G.o.d, without the increase in exp with how fast the infected were getting stronger; it wouldn't be possible for me to stay stronger than them.

Looking over at Ella I could see that she was very fatigued after that fight, her face was paler than usual and she was gripping her sides, as if she was cold. Moving over to her, I wrapped my non broken arm around her and she cuddled up to me.

Her body temperature was cold, she was even slightly shaking. She looked up to me with sorrow filled eyes.

"Hungry"

She got that word out before just staring at me. I was startled for a second, right she hadn't eaten in a good while. After that battle she would be immensely tired, well we had a big meal for her down stairs.

My thoughts didn't even pause as that thought crossed it, it would seem I found that natural now.

I sighed

"Yes, soon Ella"

I patted her head and rubbed it to calm her down. Giving ourselves another few minutes of rest, enough that I could fight, we got up and moved back down. I didn't have a splint or anything to keep my arm steady, so it was stinging in pain with every jolt of the stairs.

I would have to find one later, I was in a d.a.m.n hospital! But I had no clue where they would be, by the time I figured it out I might already have healed.

Opening the door to the 11th floor the body was still lying on the ground, with blackened blood spilling about from its injuries. Ella pounced forwards and started ravenously eating the body; even its tough skin couldn't stop Ella's teeth. I found I could look at the scene for a few seconds before I had to turn away.

*Munch* *Crunch* *Slurp*

At least I was still somewhat human I thought. No there was something wrong with that thought.

I shook it off as I walked away and peered down both ends of the corridor, I had to keep vigilant. If there was one down here, there would have to be more. I gripped my blade tighter; I hope this thing works out.

*Slurp* *Crunch*

After listening to that noise for the last few minutes it finally stopped. Turning around Ella was sitting down next to the body with some blood on her hands and mouth. She showed a content smile and rubbed her belly. It was a weird sight.

Looking down at the body it was all b.l.o.o.d.y gone; she had eaten this over 2 meter tall corpse, blood, bones and all in a few minutes.

Where the h.e.l.l did it all go!

I was shocked still as she gave her impressions.

"A disobedient meal, but it was sure delicious!"

I had to distance myself from reality at this point, it was a bit much.

"Ok Ella lets go"

She nodded as we moved off to explore the floor. Thankfully there was no room with animal cages this time, and I could spot nothing other than the usual black tar splattered about. It meant there would only be normal infected around, hopefully.

Walking down to the first reception area I spotted another zombie, it was a lot easier to spot and identify, as it stood easily over 2 meters and its skin was a deeper blue, almost like hardened concrete.

I motion for Ella to stay quite as I observed it. In the surrounding there was not another zombie, it was by itself. It wasn't moving and just stood in a general area near a corner. I waited a good 2 minutes to see if it made any move, but in the end it stood stock still, making its weird screeching noise.

What causes these things to tick?

I hadn't a.n.a.lyzed any of the infected up until this point and realized that I had made a grave mistake. I needed to familiarize myself with these things. I needed to know there habits and actions, so that I could deal with them better.

I had been judging them off their attribute points so far and that had been fine. But I would have to find out other things if I really wanted to take them on, or maybe even manipulate them.

As I had seen before, the zombie that I fought first off wasn't very smart. It was completely thrown off balance when it threw a fist at me, but the second time it hadn't. It had learned and adapted, and if I didn't have Ella to slow it down, my plan would have fallen through.

That things' INT was only at 7, down the track these thing will get smarter. I had to determine at least 2 things. What attracts them and their main weaknesses. I had already determined that the head was a clear goal so that was off the list.

I had also seen through fights that their bodies still kept human weaknesses, seen with the Achilles heel incident and spinal hits. But only with the muscle did this work, even when I cut or break bones, they will keep coming after me.

This means that the nervous system is keeping them up. If I overload their sensory information will they still know which way is up?

I would have to try that at some point.

But mainly I had to know what would attract them. By knowing this I could avoid them. Searching around quickly, I picked up a dropped soda can and threw it around the zombie. As the noise rang out the zombies body finally moved and walked over towards the sound.

It walked over but didn't destroy anything on that side of the reception; the only thing that got damaged was a table that was blocking its path. The noise that had rung out was very small meaning that their ears were pretty good.

There was one last thing I needed to check. Turning to Ella I looked over her stats and saw that her STR stat was higher than mine, it was only higher by one point, but it was better than nothing. Quickly telling her what I wanted her to do, I made sure the zombies back was turned and dashed over to the other side of the corridor. It was slightly down from where Ella was.

I peeked back out at the zombie then pulled out a normal sword; using minimal strength I slashed my hand open. Blood started flowing down and dripping onto the ground. I had to make it a bigger cut so that it wouldn't heal up too fast. Peeking back out at the zombie, it had straightened itself up a bit and turned in this general direction.

I gulped down my saliva.

So it could smell blood, or maybe sense it.

I gripped my fist; this was the worst thing that I could think of.

I had to make sure at this point in time.

After seeing how much Ella liked blood, I started to think that maybe they had a special connection or something to it. This was just a confirmation of that.

It had caught my sent from the looks of it and started to make its way over. Well I guess I can't test out anything else.

Fully stepping out of the room I was in, the zombie finally caught sight of me. And confirmed my last test, these things did have sight. I mean it is sort of a stupid thing to test, but after watching so many different zombie movies, it was better to check.

Maybe they wouldn't have sight.

Its speed increased at the sight of me and almost doubled from what it was walking at before.

So if it doesn't see me, it won't use its full speed? That just plain doesn't make any sense!

I backed off at the approaching zombie and waited for it to close in on me. It pa.s.sed the room that Ella was hiding in without noticing a thing and continued on its way.

As it got close I concentrated on it and waited for its attack, it was the best time to counter. It raised both of its arms and swung down at me.

"Now Ella!"

I shouted as I sprang backwards, narrowly missing being squashed by its arms. It was as stupid as the first one and had thrown all of its body weight into the attack. It was completely off balance as Ella sprinted out from behind it and brandished the swift blade.

I had handed it to her before I moved over, and set up this plan so that while it was focused on me, Ella could take it out. I was still not sure about the sword, so I let Ella swing it. Even though it was a difference of 1 STR point between us, it could make a difference.

She jumped with surprising grace and rammed the blade into the back of its head, I told her to jam the point in as I wasn't sure about the slas.h.i.+ng power.

The blade sunk in a lot easier than I thought and the zombie collapsed to the ground.

I let out the breath I was holding, it worked out perfectly.

After pulling the blade out Ella smiled at me.

"Father!"

She pushed her chest out and was looking for praise.

"Yes, yes, you did well."

I patted her head as another wave of 500 exp popped up and I grabbed the glowing globe. After being patted her mouth started to drool as went to eat.

*Crunch* *Slurp* *Munch*

I took a glance at the now dead zombie being eaten and thought about what I had just confirmed.

"Well I did find out some good information."

I stared coldly at the scene as I commented.
