Lazy.

I had become lazy.

I don't know when it started. It might have happened after coming out of the library. Maybe after we had taken down 2 guilds, maybe it happened on the trip since then. But I had become lazy.

The fight with that woman, with that creature. I really shouldn't think of her as such a thing, especially if my thoughts about her were correct, it just wouldn't help for me to think like that. But she had reminded me, lit another fire underneath my soul, to keep progressing, to keep getting stronger.

I had never really stopped getting stronger, but I had become stagnant. I had only created one move with the powerful skill that was Ice. My ice breath was the only thing I had figured out, weaponized, even though the potential of the skill meant I could do so much more.

But I hadn't, I had wasted the weeks I had, I was doing nothing but killing weak creatures that would attack us. And the moment when I met something truly strong, like her, I was defeated with no problem. My weapon could damage her, but what was the point if I couldn't land a hit?

My fists tightened as I gazed at the moving clouds above me. I was resting alone in the back of the cart as the rest set up camp and prepared a few things. I wanted time to myself and the other left me alone. We were very close to the dungeon now.

I had many thoughts pa.s.s through my mind, but one thing was clear.

I wouldn't stagnate any longer!

I would never stop progressing again!

I would keep getting stronger to reach my goal!

I pulled my body up slowly as I raised my hand, I focused my mind and tapped into the power I had come to a.s.sociate with the ability ice, and a small spec of ice started to manifest. I stared at it, I studied it, and I studied myself.

I felt the power that coursed through me and tried to understand. This would be my first step, and I knew what could a.s.sist me in this endeavor. It was something I had been born with whether I knew it or not, and it was something I would make use of now and in the future. I finally understood why hunter talked to me about it in such a serious matter.

I activated my 'Spirit Vision'.

The world around me started to change, the small spec of ice in my hand turned from a piece of nature in to pure energy. I could see the blue color it gave off, I traced where it was coming from. I looked at myself and started to study the connection between it and me.

There were quite a few colors inside me, each determining a different skill, a different energy. It was time to figure them out and if I could, the possibilities were endless.

******************

'Father I think you should see this.'

I was still contemplating the energies that ran through my body as a message from Ella came through.

'You as well Rose.'

My eyes drifted in the direction of Ella, I could feel where she was from our link. Staring for a second I turned my attention back to the spec of ice in my hand. Giving the energies in my body one last look over, I dispelled the spec.

Standing up slowly I felt a little strain from concentrating so hard. My Spirit vision, I had found out, used quite a lot of brain power when focusing so hard. To scrutinize the energy and try to understand them had put quite the strain on me.

Thankfully the rest of my body was fine. Jumping down from the cart I moved quickly to where a small group had gathered. I could see them quite well from a distance as the hill region had flattened out again.

We were so close to the dungeon I could make out the base of it. I did have to wonder however where the entrance was. Hopefully it wouldn't take too much time to find it.

Sprinting over to the group, Hunter was kneeling next to a body, a badly mangled and deformed body I might add. The children were off to the side with slightly pale faces trying not to look at the scene. They seemed to still be a bit squeamish. They were still kids I guess, no matter how much they fought and killed.

Finally standing next to Hunter, who was muttering to himself, I got a good look at the body. It was a woman in her mid 30's from what I could tell. Her body wasn't lean like an athlete and was definitely malnourished before this happened.

There were crushed bones everywhere over her body, with bruises covering more than 50% of what was left. Her head was completely crushed with her brain matter scattered about, no doubt what the children wanted to avoid.

The gear she wore was torn beyond repair and barely resembled gear at all, more like pieces of cloth and leather. Her body was face up our way, I felt a small pang of pity as I looked at what was left of her. However she had died was no pretty, and I hoped she was long dead before most of the damage was done.

But knowing this f.u.c.ked up world, probably not, the head crus.h.i.+ng probably happened last.

Finally finished muttering to himself, Hunter looked up at me.

"You remember that information I found?"

The question puzzled me for a second. What did this have to do with the information he found in town?

But seeing him motion to her left breast I understood completely. There on her chest, just over her heart was a slave crest. Rose's anger grew as she also caught on. It may have been deformed from the bruising and damage but it was clearly seen.

Hunter then pointed to a trail of blood that was heading towards the mountain.

"Looks like the rumors were true. The monsters in the dungeon are taking people."

I followed his finger and watched as a long trail of blood led towards a certain part of the mountain. If I only had one reason to go into the dungeon before, I now had another one. I might not have any bad feelings towards brainless monsters, I was still part of the human race, well mostly, and when I see stuff like this, it p.i.s.sed me off.

I knew that some places and towns didn't destroy dungeons to farm for exp and battle experience, but I would definitely destroy this one by the time I was done.

"Better prepare for a fight."

With those words I sent one last look at the body of the woman. I would take revenge for her suffering, I would destroy this dungeon. But whatever was in the dungeon that did this to a person, they were dangerous for sure.

'And merciless.'

I thought that to myself as I headed back to camp.

We would finally enter the dungeon tomorrow.
