The cart slowed down as we stared up at the towering walls in front of us, just another 100 meters and we would be at the gates. In front of us were groups of people lined up. A checkpoint of sorts was set at the doors and people; I would guess guards, were checking people as they moved in.

Sometimes people would be stopped and asked a few questions but nothing major happened. Ella and the kids were left in the back of the cart and they covered their outwards appearance. I still didn't know how people would react to demons and I wasn't even sure how they would react to me, but I wouldn't take the chances that something might happen.

Though while I hadn't heard anything good about demons yet, High humans were popular and sometimes revered, I could easily use this in my favor.

Rose sat very close next to me, just in case anyone complained about her being a dryad. I had already come up with a short excuse about her being my "Partner", whatever way they took those words I didn't really care, it was technically the truth. And I had talked to Hunter before; he a.s.sured me that nothing would happen to her if I stated that fact.

Both of us were in high tension as we got closer and closer to the gate, while Hunter was relaxed and had his trade mark lazy smile on. I gave him the side eye for a few seconds before trying to calm myself down. Even if something did go wrong I was pretty sure we could get out of here.

We all had a high agility stat and could make it too the forest. I had been making it a habit to sense out the strengths of people we would have to face. I couldn't always use a.n.a.lyze as it was a skill that would alert people that I was gauging them. It was considerably rude to do such a thing, not to mention towards the guards.

If they misinterpreted my actions I would have trouble. It was better to try and sense them using my own aura. Of course this could also backfire, but I was getting better and better at judging people. And from their aura I knew we could beat these guards.

All 6 people at the gates were weaker than us, but not to belittle them. They were stronger than the guild we ran into back in town and the bandits we came across. They were getting close to the level of the empire soldiers and it scared me slightly.

If these were only the guards at the gate what were their elites like? The same as the empire or even better? I couldn't cause trouble here either way.

The city whatever it was called was situated in a plain. The forest had died out a few kilometers back and become a plain that was easy to move on. The speed of the cart had gone up tremendously after we reached it. The plain stretched for miles in each direction and the city that was smack bang in the middle of said plain was very eye catching.

But it wasn't as eye catching as the mountain that stretched into the skies that was off to the south. It stood out in the plain like a sore thumb and could be spotted for miles.

Finally it was our turn to go through. The cart was stopped as one of the guards moved forwards. His eyes flashed over us and I felt him use a.n.a.lyze. I let my muscles loosen so as not to be suspicious, but I could see the frown that appeared on his face as he looked at Rose.

I didn't like the look he was giving her, but after a few seconds he got to me. And that was when his face became one of shock. His jaw almost hit the floor as he stared up and me with wide eyes. I felt a small smirk come to my lips as I looked back.

Perks of being a high human I guess.

He stood like that frozen before one of his companions actually had to come over and shake him out of it. But at the same time once he looked at me and used a.n.a.lyze, he also stood their silly. Hunter who was next to me let out a small sigh as he jumped off the cart and moved towards them.

Finally snapping out of it as Hunter moved closer, the guards started to talk to the merchant. I couldn't hear them as they didn't talk too loud, but I saw them sending glances towards me and Rose repeatedly. Hunter pointed to the cart behind us and I slightly tensed, but the guards did nothing.

After a few more minutes of some small talk Hunter shook their hands and came back towards us. Out of the corner of my eye I could just see his EPC light up as they shook hands, the screen flas.h.i.+ng once.

The guard sent a big smile our way and waved us through, Hunter jumping back aboard. I gave him a small look but decided to talk to him after we proceeded through. He had a sly smile on his face as we made it through the gate and I saw a bustling city appear before me.

I was surprised for a second at the normality of the town. People were rus.h.i.+ng around and talking to each other as they all had something to do. They were dressed in gear and linen clothes as they made their way about.

I only saw humans around and no other species which I took note of but didn't say anything, I turned to Hunter as we moved away from the gate.

"What was that back at the gate?"

I asked quietly not to draw any attention. Hunter just kept smiling forwards as he made his way to the center of town.

"I was just making it a bit easier for us to get in."

He shook his EPC to the side and I sent it a small glance.

"For us merchants they're supposed to check out carts if we have them, in case we have any special products."

He sent a small wink and I knew he had transferred some EP while they shook hands, the cla.s.sic bribery trick. Didn't think he would do that, as I had seen no form of currency other than entertainment points, it never crosses my mind to bribe a person like that.

"Special products?"

"You know slaves and the like, can't have any unknown species or disease's in town."

He said it in such a nonchalant manner that I almost nodded at his words. But the anger that came from Rose at the mention of slaves cleared my head a bit. I didn't say another word as we continued on, I rested my hand on Rose's shoulder to calm her down a bit.

I couldn't judge Hunter for his words, he had grown up in a world where slavery was a natural course of nature, when he talked about it, it was like talking about the food one eats, a sort of normality that I just didn't have.

We stayed quiet for a while as we continued on to the pillar in the middle of the town. I shook my head as I thought to myself.

"Remember the deal. We get in, you sell and restock, and then we leave immediately to the dungeon."

Our deal had changed slightly over the days we had been together. Noting how well he was protected over the week, he had wanted to change the deal. He now wanted to come in the dungeon with us and would buy any special gear that dropped for a reasonable price.

He would make a profit and I could buy all the potions I wanted or needed, plus extra gear and supplies while in a dungeon. Honestly it was a great deal for us as we could get stronger and get rid of all unnecessary drops.

Because of that we were only going to stay in town for a little while. With Ella not being able to leave the back of the cart, I thought it would be best if we did this fast.

Of course before we left town Hunter did however want to visit his guild branch that was set up here and get the lay of the land. With the extra knowledge we would be able to prepare better.

We continued down the street with people making way as we went, sometimes we did have to stop however when people wanted to buy stuff, Hunter was more than happy. I could sense some hostile gazes that came towards us, but they were mostly directed towards Rose, as for me, I was getting just as many stares as people started to catch on to the fact that I was a high human.

Their faces once they used a.n.a.lyze on me were pretty funny, but also annoying, I really needed to get something to hide my race soon.

I let a sigh unintentionally leave as my body slumped. It was then that I felt a cool hand curl around my neck, I turned over and saw Rose give me a small smile before she rested her head on my shoulder. The noise started to die down as I stared down at the green hair resting on my shoulder. It was becoming peaceful, serene even.

And then a loud voice was heard as we pa.s.sed a 3 story building right near the pillar.

"Buy 2, get one for half price! Strong, Beautiful, Skinny, Whatever your preference!"

A fat balding man stood in front of the door in lavish clothes as he shouted loudly. The building he was standing in front of had a gla.s.s window for people to look in and as I turned over to look, I saw 4 naked forms of people standing in the windows.

They had the slave crests showing over their hearts and chains keeping them in place. I felt Rose's head rise from its position on my shoulder and turn to stare quietly at the shop.

The quiet atmosphere was completely gone now.
