Again.
I felt the tears streak down my face as I raced on the horse back. My grip on the reigns was turning my hands white. In the back of my head a small voice was saying to go back. To die trying to kill them b.a.s.t.a.r.ds, but I focused forwards as my eyes turned even redder.
What was the point of all the training? What was all the time spent in the academy and on the field? When was I finally going to be a man?
My family in the past was killed by them and I could do nothing, and now my friends, my team mates I had gone through thick and thin with were also dead.
I could do nothing as they fought inside that d.a.m.n building, I could only help at the start, anymore and it would disrupt them. I heard the fighting rage on and on, my tension building as I tried to catch a glimpse through the window.
And then it was over, after a few minutes the sound of battle faded, no sound was heard; nothing was coming from my EPC. The fear that was growing in my heart exploded and got even worse when the windows were covered with Earth walls. I knew they had failed, and I couldn't even avenge them!
The only thing I could do was run to go and inform the Empire of our failure. The only other person that was left didn't know we had failed yet, but he would figure it out sooner or later. It was better for the both of us to run and get reinforcements as fast as possible.
But why then did my heart grow cold? Why did I have the compulsion to turn around? Would my hands ever stop trembling?
The water in my eyes intensified. I sent a quick message to Peter as I went. We would leave as soon as I got back.
I stirred on my horse as we raced across the city scape, the path we had taken was free from zombies and I was soon on the outskirts of the city.
Once again I saw the d.a.m.n Immortals standing outside on the gra.s.s. They quickly formed a defensive formation as I galloped towards them, but they were smart enough to back off. I almost wanted them to attack me, so I had a reason to attack them.
They were so low level I could take all of them, with minimal injuries. But I didn't have time for that.
Even though my anger was boiling over, and I was ready to pounce at them, I only sent them a death glare as I pa.s.sed by.
Their bodies s.h.i.+vered from my killing intent as they back off even further and I spat in disgust. The horse continued to climb outwards and up a small hill, it wasn't long before I reached our previous camp.
Peter was standing by the campfire with his back turned to me, the fire was lit giving our position away and I was angry enough to smack the fool. What the h.e.l.l was he doing? I had sent him a message to pack up and get ready!
He hadn't even sent back a reply, what the h.e.l.l was wrong with him?! He knew the gravity of the situation? Was he that stupid?!?!!?
My anger was too much as I bolted down from the horse and made my way closer.
"What are you doing!?!?!! We have to go now!!!!"
He didn't respond for a second before I saw him give a small nod. At least he wasn't too stupid.
"Hurry up, the captain and the rest are dead! We have to report what we have found immediately to the Emperor!"
"Yes."
His voice sounded gruff as he replied to me, I didn't pay it mind as I walked past the fire pit that had half charred food sitting in it.
'G.o.d was he that bad at cooking? Thank G.o.d we never let him cook.'
"We have to get reinforcements and then come back and kill that demon and all that dare to help it!"
I was almost rambling at this point as I grab a few essentials such as water and a few packs of rations. I wanted to book it back to the Empire. We could get there faster if we pushed the horses to the limit, they might die but we could cut the travel time by a few days.
The quicker they got the news the better. Peter was also moving around and gathering a few things, he was taking his time though. I really wanted to smack him, but he was the only one I had left at this point. I would scold him later while we were traveling.
After a few minutes I was ready to go, the back pack was filled and Peter was also almost done. I had been going on a short rant about the demon and my thoughts as I finally got the backpack ready. There was one last thing I had to grab from the main tent.
We would leave all the other stuff behind when we left; this tent for example.
"Delvina mentioned its rank while we were tracking it. Going by the power it showed, we think it could be a Queen..."
I didn't get to finish what I was ranting about as I opened the flap to the tent. The words in my mouth got stuck in my throat and my back was drenched in cold sweat.
The pungent smell of blood drifted into my nose and I looked at the dead body that had been stashed in the tent.
I smelt nothing before I opened the flap, so the sight truly shocked me. It was the dead body of Peter
My body locked up as my mind raced.
'If he's dead then who...'
"That was an interesting topic you were talking about."
A cold voice whispered right into my ear as I felt warmth on the back of my neck.
WHEN?!?!?!?!
I tried to turn around but I couldn't. My body couldn't move anymore something had locked it down.
I lost all senses in my body as the voice finished
"Please continue."
