The Abyssal Devil Vine— although it held an awe-inspiring name, the creature was, in actuality, equivalent to something sold by street vendors in the Abyssal Dimension. It was a Higher First Tier creature, but it possessed meager strength and ordinary combat prowess. It could not even compare to the bottom sc.r.a.per insects such as the Crimson Crowned Beetle, yet it dared to act recklessly against Li Jiayu by initiating an attack!

Li Jiayu was taken somewhat aback. He initially a.s.sumed that Xijiang University had only suffered the invasion of insects, so why did a creature belonging to the abyss emerge?

'During the great escape from Xijiang University in my previous life, why had we not encountered the abyssal creature that resided in the gymnasium?'

Furthermore… the Abyssal Devil Vine’s speed seemed quicker than expected?

Li Jiayu grunted as he brandished a sword onto the encroaching vine, and at the moment of contact, it actually emitted a dull ‘thunk!’ sound!

It went beyond Li Jiayu’s expectations!

The Devil Vine did not get chopped off!

He had merely managed to inflict a small wound, from which oozed a blue-green fluorescent tree sap and was then frozen by Frost Moon. One must know that Frost Moon's sharpness was unparalleled. Even marble was sliced as though it was tofu. Yet, under the force of Li Jiayu’s sword, which contained all of his strength, the wilting yellowed vine was not injured severely. Was it perhaps tougher than granite?

"The impact made my hand numb... Darn it. This isn't an Abyssal Devil Vine! A trash-like plant such as the Abyssal Devil Vine isn't this powerful!"

“What exactly is the enemy?”

“Could it be…”

Li Jiayu's heart tightened. He had guessed vaguely that the enemy probably possessed strength beyond his. Almost immediately, he turned around and yelled towards Hsiao Wanqing, Lan Xiaoyue, THX and the several axe-wielders that were behind him,

“Flee from this area! Quickly!”

Looking at Li Jiayu’s rare anxious appearance, they could guess without asking that the situation must have turned for the worse. Without spouting nonsense, they turned immediately and ran in the opposite direction. However, several steps later, they heard a sound that resembled the whistle of a train coming from the gymnasium!

Buzzzzz…

The air trembled as visible sound waves spread out!

Even the puddles on the ground started rippling from the tremendous shock!

Cracks ran along the gla.s.s doors of the gymnasium!

"Mm!"

The group of girls and the axe-wielders hurriedly covered their ears! Their faces were flushed red as their eyes shut tightly, but when the sound waves subsided, they felt an impact to their heads! Suddenly, their visions went dark and they felt strength slipping out of their legs!

The most frightening effect was that the impact on their hearts brought up matters that frustrated them greatly. Negative emotions surfaced and rendered them breathless. For a moment, their hearts ceased to beat!

Amongst the group, Lan Xiaoyue had the weakest spiritual energy. After she suffered the brunt of the soundwaves, her face turned completely white like paper, her pupils contracted and she kneeled onto the wet ground, gasping heavily for air!

Ran Hongxia, Hsiao Wanqing and the other st.u.r.dy guys were slightly better, but they were also temporarily stunned and simply unable to break into a run and escape!

“Spiritual Cyclone! That’s a skill only available to Spiritual Types of the Middle Second Tier… Could it be…”

Li Jiayu’s spiritual energy exceeded those of ordinary humans. So, naturally, he was not subjected to the influence of the mental attack. He noticed Hsiao Wanqing was barely holding up, as though she was going to fall at any moment, and hurried to support her. Holding her shoulders, he shouted anxiously,

“Sister! Wake up! Snap out of it. We need to flee!”

Li Jiayu looked at the group members by his side. The circ.u.mstances were not favorable and there were no possible methods of escape at the moment…

‘Darn it. Why is it at this moment of time…’

“Octopus! Grab Ran Hongxia and Lan Xiaoyue, and also get as many guys as you can carry. Hurry up and leave this place! f.u.c.k! Why are there Middle Second Tier abyssal creatures in this G.o.d d.a.m.ned place…” Without a second word, Li Jiayu grabbed Hsiao Wanqing’s waist and prepared to leave.

“Yes… Octopus understands.”

Just as Scythe Beetle was about to pick up several people, the sound of buzzing resounded from around the corner. At the next moment, more than ten Scythe Beetles scuttled out and blotted out a portion of the sky like a black veil with their murderous intent. Soaring, they charged over!

“f.u.c.k! There are more than ten of them!”

Li Jiayu felt his scalp tingle. Facing more than ten Scythe Beetles at once was far too dangerous, especially in an open area where the beetles could display their full potential, they would be like more than ten a.s.sault machines.

Considering how skilled Li Jiayu was, dealing with six or seven at once would not be a problem. However, facing 10 or more at once was simply too risky even with the support of Dark Octopus, so much that they may only be able to come draw!

What made the situation worse was that Li Jiayu and Dark Octopus needed to look after their teammates. If they were strangers and they died, then so be it; it was none of Li Jiayu’s business. However, the person he was holding was one of his cherished ones. Even if he got killed, he would not allow anything to touch a single hair on her body. Although Dark Octopus was not in any way better, as it might not pay attention to the guys, Lan Xiaoyue and Ran Hongxia were definitely worth for it to risk its life!

The current situation was extremely critical. At the front, there was a Middle Second Tier perverted creature with the mental storm ability, while at the back, there were more than 10 Scythe Beetles. It was as though there was a wolf at the front and a tiger at the back. Li Jiayu panicked. He could care less about whether or not he would waste energy and immediately used up the remaining 6 Explosive Tags, sending them out with the sand!

“d.a.m.n it… My explosive tags! Before my promotion into an Intermediate Summoner, I probably won’t be able to call forth such a treasure… It’s all your fault, you meddling pests. You’ve already eaten your fill, so why are you still trying to gather up a storm! All of you, die!

Rumble!

Six explosions resounded and a dark red explosion flared up amidst the rain. Despite the rainwater, its impact did not weaken in the slightest. It blew all of the Scythe Beetles into smithereens! At this very moment, Li Jiayu’s most powerful consumable, the 20 Explosive Tags, had been used up and his combat prowess instantly dropped in half.

“Octopus! Stop dawdling. Hurry up and lead them to safety!”

Li Jiayu yelled out loudly. Dark Octopus shook before extending a tentacle toward Lan Xiaoyue, who was still kneeling down and throwing up in the puddle of rainwater. A wilted yellow vine then shot out from the metal gates; its speed was significantly faster than Dark Octopus’!

“Octopus, be careful!” Li Jiayu exclaimed as he hurried back, fully intending on providing support to Dark Octopus.

“N-no… problem… I can deal… with it…”

As the stammering Dark Octopus stopped speaking, it stretched out its tentacles to defend against the devil vines. However, it was pierced by the sharp ends of the vines instead!

Meanwhile, even more vines shot out once again from the metal gate, all of which lunged toward Dark Octopus immediately. The slow-moving Dark Octopus could not evade them and could only watch on as more than ten of vines pierced him!

“Octopus!”

Li Jiayu felt a slight heartache. This r.e.t.a.r.ded octopus was stupid, but it wasn’t too bad. After fighting alongside it during this short period of time, a sense of camaraderie had risen within Li Jiayu. As he watched Dark Octopus get killed, he felt extremely uncomfortable!

“It hurts… It hurts…”

Dark Octopus was skewered in the head! One of its bra.s.s bell-like eyes had even exploded, yet it still remained standing while groaning and whining. Li Jiayu stood there frozen.

'This fellow still isn’t dead?'

'G.o.d, it’s still alive after leaking brain fluid! Isn’t Scythe Beetle’s vitality is slightly too terrifying?'

The Tentacle Monsters in the legends were said to be equipped with unparalleled regenerative abilities. These creatures did not die even after being cut into pieces. With the Dark Octopus’s being part of the Tentacle Monster's bloodline, that explained its heaven-defying vitality somewhat.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh~

The vines retracted from Scythe Beetle’s body and s.h.i.+fted toward Lan Xiaoyue, binding both her limbs and her waist. Shortly afterward, the iron gate parted slowly!

Li Jiayu watched the Shapes.h.i.+fter, who had dormant potential, get dragged away without giving him any time to react. However, the matter that startled him was the creature behind the gates was actually...

Abyssal Vine Demoness!

It was the very rare and exceptional type of existence in the abyssal world, Abyssal Vine Demoness!

The Abyssal Vine Demoness before him was wrapped in wilted yellow vines. A gorgeous and dazzling flower bud was growing on the upper part of its rounded, wooden body and there was a gigantic eyeball embedded in the middle of its body. The deathly pale white of the eye was filled with green vessels, seeming like the malevolent web of a spider. On the other hand, the grayish-black iris exuded a chilling light and when one locked eyes with it, one would feel a chill enveloping their entirety. They would feel a suffocating fear cras.h.i.+ng over them!

“How can it be that… the Abyssal Vine Demoness, such a marvel of an existence in the abyssal world, has appeared at such a small place like Xijiang University?!”

Li Jiayu breathed in a cool breath. If he was a Greater Summoner of Darkness, there would be no cause for worry when faced with a trash-like opponent such as this. A casually summoned Bone Devil would send this Abyssal Vine Demoness to soil herself.

However, right now, he was merely an Apprentice Summoner and it turned out that his spirit energy was near its depletion. Even his summoned beast was near its death and his strongest trump card, the Explosive Tags, had run out. Now, standing before the Abyssal Vine Demoness, it practically felt as though he was as weak as a three-year-old.

“No! The enemy is too strong… There’s no way of defeating it! There’s no guarantee we will emerge victorious even if we go all out. At this point, I have to ignore everything else. The only option is to retreat!”

An escape plan flashed through his mind rapidly. He had no intention of saving his teammate, Lan Xiaoyue. He was determined on leaving Ran Hongxia, along with the several male students behind to save his and Hsiao Wanqing’s skin. So long as Hsiao Wanqing was fine, anything would work. Additionally, he did not worry about Dark Octopus. At most, he would force it back into another dimension, lest it sacrificed itself while trying to rescue Ran Hongxia. Even if it complained, there was no other choice.

After all, the Abyssal Vine Demoness was far stronger than Li Jiayu. The gap between them was insurmountable. Be it for justice, saving the beauty or defending teammates, fighting with his life on the line would prove to be worthless; he would be killed in a heartbeat!

If there was a shred of success, Li Jiayu would never give up. However, for a fight without any odds of success, Li Jiayu was definitely escaping. That was the main reason why he had been able to escape from so many pursuers who had been after his life in the past.

“Save me… Li Jiayu, save me...”

Lan Xiaoyue was over 20 meters away, tangled up by dozens of vines. She pleaded painfully for help as her only hope was Li Jiayu! In her impression, Li Jiayu would triumph in all his battles. If Li Jiayu was willing to step out, all their enemies could only kneel down!

“Sorry…”

Li Jiayu lowered his head and muttered under his breath. Hsiao Wanqing, who was in his embrace, stirred awake just as he was about to flee the scene. Her autumn-water-like eyes shone brightly as she stared at Li Jiayu. As though she had seen through Li Jiayu’s thoughts, she asked,

“You're planning on abandoning her?"

    “……”

Li Jiayu’s body stiffened. In all honesty, after he had joined the Demon Hunter Group during his previous life,  Li Jiayu had become a really loyal person under the teachings of the old captain. When someone was recognized by him as a comrade, he would treat that person with all his heart and be willing to entrust his back to them.

The demon hunting group’s days of entrusting each other’s lives to each other had persisted for a year. Later, even when he was being pursued by the entire Celestial Empire, he had still been unable to forget the memories of when he had fought side by side with those teammates.

After the rebirth, he had never treated Lan Xiaoyue as a teammate. However, for some unknown reason, he felt stifled and uneasy after being questioned by Hsiao Wanqing.

Right at this moment, the Abyssal Vine Demoness extended several more vines and coiled them toward Ran Hongxia!
