The first story was the level that suffered the most casualties.

The students, lecturers, and even the school staff and security personnel numbered roughly 300 to 400 people. Under the Crimson Crowned Beetles’ first onslaught, they had not been able to escape even if they had wished and had become the very first sacrificial victims.

Nearly all of them had been stuffed into the stomachs of the gigantic worms. Therefore, when Li Jiayu and crew were done cleaning up the worms, they could not find a single corpse anywhere that was complete. What they could see were merely lumps and lumps of minced meat and pieces of damaged clothing.

Every single one of the cla.s.srooms resembled horrifying human slaughterhouses!

These rooms were filled with blood stains and the scattered fragments of brightly colored organs. It was simply impossible to differentiate intestines from kidneys.

Sections of vertebrae were all over the podiums. Perhaps, it was some fussy Crimson Crowned Beetle that disliked gnawing on bones and spat them all out.

In particular, a pool of meat paste was lying on the floor of the first story’s elevator!

One could imagine that just as over ten students had entered the elevator, the electricity stopped abruptly and trapped everyone inside the elevator. They would not have had to fear the bug invasion because the moment the insects had pried open the elevator door in the first moments of the invasion, the students had been squashed into meat paste instantly!

“This is…”

Ran Hongxia’s expression changed as her gaze s.h.i.+fted onto a gorgeous watch.

Naturally, that watch was strapped onto a severed arm. However, it was dyed completely in blood to the extent that no one could make out its high value. Ran Hongxia had a deep impression of this watch, so she recognized it almost immediately.

“Rolex… Limited Collectible Asian Edition?”

Upon hearing Ran Hongxia’s words, Hsiao Wanqing then cast her gaze over. After a brief contemplation, she then let out a sigh.

“This watch… It should belong to the School Director’s son, Ding Cheng. He was the only one who would flaunt a watch that costs several hundred thousand US dollars… Who knew that this playboy would end up in such a state…”

At the mention of Ding Cheng, the male students by the side began sighing.

Not only had he been a standard, young and promising,  “Mr. Perfect”, he had also been an outstanding student that had returned from abroad. He had been handsome, young and rich, had always driven luxury sports vehicles to the university solely for the purpose of picking up girls all day long.

Many innocent girls had been hooked by him. According to rumors, he had long since impregnated several girls. So, having seen all of these things,  the Xijiang University’s male students naturally felt upset.

What a pity that such an elite playboy no longer had any chance to seduce innocent women. He, who had been well-dressed as usual, had inevitably breathed his last under the mandibles of insects. Completely torn apart, he had died extremely miserably, forming a stark contrast to when he had been alive.

Never would this womanizer of a young master have thought that he would bid farewell to this world in this manner. He had great ambitions and he still had not done “it” with a thousand female students! He must be crying bitterly in the underworld.

‘I, laozi, am rich and powerful as well as handsome—a standard example of a Mr. Perfect.  Why would I die such a miserable death?!’

This was the apocalypse...

While surviving in these extremely precarious situations and environments, no one cared about your past. Whether you were wealthy, famous, or had thousands of fans, no one cared! This was even more so for the bloodthirsty insects that only thrived on killing!

Law currently existed only in name as civilisation had regressed to the most primitive of times. People no longer abided by virtues but by the law of the jungle.

‘You’re handsome? Very good. I, your father, am jealous of you, so I shall disfigure your appearance!’

‘You say that you’re a rich and powerful person that’s worth hundreds of millions? Did water leak into your brain? Money is equivalent to paper! One would even complain that it’s too small for wiping one’s a.r.s.e!’

‘You said you were a provincial official? You want me to protect a senior official? I still have to serve you tea and water... Otherwise, you’ll humiliate me? f.u.c.k off! Go move the bricks! If you do not finish by tonight, wash yourself clean and get ready to be fed to the insects!’

‘You said you’re a famous female celebrity, x.x.x? Miss Asia? If I send you to Shanghai safely, you say you’ll sleep with me for a night in return? Idiot, why make it so troublesome. From tonight onwards, you shall be my eternal slave!’

‘You mentioned that you are a journalist and that you’re willing to turn me into a hero of the people? f.u.c.k off! It’s fine if you have a long life, but do not drag me down with you!’

‘You used to be a province-level champion of the mixed martial art, Sanda, then you worked as a hired thug for some underworld societies and now, you’ve come here for the purpose of collecting protection fees? Did your head get jammed between the door and its frame? If you happen to provoke any ability user, who cares if you are a special forces soldier or a fighting champion; all of you shall kneel!’

‘You said you were a revered educator in the past. So, now you’re telling me to pay attention to my inner qualities and stop bullying the weak? Stinking old ghost, how about I send you on a trip to the underworld, lest you suffer in the future!’

The virtues of a peaceful society had been disregarded since long ago. The people with power, influence, looks(l.u.s.t), wealth, and fame no longer held the top positions in society. They could no longer get preferential treatment. Even a beggar on the sidewalk or a garbage collector may live longer than paunchy government officials!

“There’s nothing worth sighing about. He’s just the son of a director… Who knows if the director or princ.i.p.al is lying dead in some random corner of the school.”

Li Jiayu laughed mockingly. He lifted his leg and kicked away the stump with the Rolex watch. Turning around, he said,

“Alright, enough with the reminiscing! Listen to my order… Suicide squad, dispatch several men to the 13th story and pick out 200-300 courageous men to form a transport team.

When we’ve progressed to the supermarket, the transport team shall follow suit and move all of the rations back! Remember, the men need to be strong and deft! Quite a number of Crimson Crowned Beetles are still roaming the school grounds, so I cannot guarantee that danger won’t emerge during the transportation…”

“Yes!”

Immediately, several of them heeded the order and went away quietly to do their jobs. Li Jiayu heaved out a breath, then looked at the carca.s.ses of the Crimson Crowned Beetles and sneered,

“There are already 39… At this rate, we’ll be able to wipe out more than half of the insects before the sky darkens completely. How satisfying!”

Li Jiayu tightened his fist and felt the sting of his nails stabbing into his palm. He then yelled,

“Octopus, stop sucking the brain essences for now. Hurry up and follow me! You guys as well, stop dawdling!”

Li Jiayu took the lead and left the hall. An intermittent drizzle of rain landed on his face. The raindrops felt cool, like willow leaves drifting in Spring.

As a chill breezed through, Li Jiayu shuddered inevitably, but Frost Moon, which was clasped in his hand, began to emit a far greater brilliance. The drops of rain that fell on the blade turned into little wisps of ice, reflecting a fascinating, fragmented light.

As Li Jiayu had expected, over 100 corpses laid in a mess in front of the building. Some were on the flowerbed. The blood and brain juices of the corpses stained the white roses; the red mixed with the white, giving one an unspeakable sense of bizarreness.

There were also many branded vehicles: BMW; Xiali; Dongfeng; Audi; and Toyota. The vehicles appeared extremely stylish but due to the cosmic storm, every one of them was rendered worthless.

Amongst the people who had leaped off the building, quite a number of them had smashed onto the roofs of the cars, shattering the winds.h.i.+elds, and blood flowed down, along with the bodies of the cars. Those who had leaped from the 8th, 9th or 10th floors were completely and utterly dead.

However, those who had jumped from the 5th, 6th and 7th floors appeared to be struggling and twitching on the roofs of cars with their lives intact. After they saw Li Jiayu leaving the hall, these people twitched their mangled bodies. Their mouths bubbled with blood and bits and pieces of their internal organs as they beseeched feebly,

“S-save… Save me…”

“What? Speak louder.” Li Jiayu strode over.

“S-Save… Save me please…”

“I’m too lazy to be bothered with you. You should just die earlier and reincarnate earlier!”

Li Jiayu replied insipidly. Without a change in expression, he walked right past the BMW the person was lying on. Simultaneously, he tapped the gourd by his waist and, almost immediately, sand heaved out and morphed into a rope.

Before him, there was a Crimson Crowned Beetle that had already filled its stomach and was having fun. It turned around sluggishly and after noticing that a person had intruded its territory, it released a disgruntled screech and charged toward Li Jiayu!

“You’re looking for death! A lone insect like you dares trouble me? You should have gotten a companion here!”

A slight smile spread across Li Jiayu’s face. With the Sand Gourd and Frost Moon, his strength had long since grown to the point that he could suppress a Crimson Crowned Beetle without dread. His figure flashed and reappeared at the back of a BMW vehicle.

The Crimson Crowned Beetle was rus.h.i.+ng at a high speed and could not stop its charge. Additionally, the floor was made of slippery marble! Hence, the Crimson Crowned Beetle collided head first into the vehicle and forced the BMW back half a meter!

Even the heavily injured person, who had been lying on the roof of the car, fell because of the immense quake. His bones had already penetrated his internal organs, but thanks to the fall, his insides were wrecked thoroughly. His eyes widened and his neck stiffened, then he stopped breathing just like that.

“Sand coffin bind!”

Despite having inadvertently accelerated the death of an innocent, Li Jiayu was not affected in the slightest. He controlled the sand rope and bound the limbs of the insect, reducing its speed greatly.

Following that, Li Jiayu nimbly got behind the insect and stabbed into its fragile lower extremity! He twisted his wrist and minced the Crimson Crowned Beetle’s muscles with his sword, shredding the wound completely!

While the Crimson Crowned Beetle writhed in pain, it wished to bite Li Jiayu to death. However, it could not move an inch because four of its limbs had been suppressed. In merely two seconds, the lower half of its body had been destroyed and its mournful screech had finally managed to attract four of its companions.

At this moment, however, Dark Octopus, Chu Xiang, and Ran Hongxia also came onto the battlefield. A fierce battle then unfolded between the two parties in the school’s parking lot.

The result lacked any suspense. An Explosive Tag exploded one to death, Chu Xiang smashed one to death and Li Jiayu froze three to death!

“How treacherous… In an open area like this, the insects held an advantage. Without the car as a cover, I might’ve gotten injured…”

Ran Hongxia gasped slightly for breath. The pair of plump rabbits that formed her bosom propped up against her s.h.i.+rt. The fine, ice cold drizzle had inevitably drenched both her s.h.i.+rt and hair. Pearl-like raindrops clung to her face and at the moment, Ran Hongxia’s elegance made her seem like a fairy.

The few members of the squad, who noticed this, stared at her dumbfoundedly. However, Li Jiayu turned a blind eye to all of this and said emotionlessly,

“If you’re afraid of getting injured… Go back and take a rest. When I’m done dealing with the bugs, you can come back.”

“I… I didn’t say I was afraid. Li Jiayu, why are your words always so tactless/rude?” Insect blood dripped from Ran Hongxia’s Nepal Military Knife as she stared at Li Jiayu seethingly, feeling extremely aggrieved.

‘Why? I had already performed so well and helped him quite a lot, yet this fellow continues to treat me in this manner. Not once did he treat me kindly.’

It’s not that she needed Li Jiayu’s concern over her wounds… But at least… at least he should treat her amiably like how he does with Hsiao Wanqing, right?

Mist-like rain and rain-like mist drizzled down incessantly, appearing to drape a veil over Ran Hongxia.

“I am like this— frank and outspoken. It’s also because of this that I often offend people. If you’re unable to tolerate me, feel free to discipline me. As the distinguished Student Council’s Vice President with an aristocratic background, all you need to do is to make a call and make your fans would besiege me. Chase me all the way to Sichuan City or to Suzhou City…”

Li Jiayu looked over his shoulder and cast a side glance at her… In fact, Li Jiayu knew that it was an inappropriate time to act in a fit of pique, but the trauma Ran Hongxia had inflicted on him was too deeply rooted.

Whenever he saw her, he’d feel that Ran Hongxia was an unpleasant sight for his eyes. Just like how it had been in his previous life, whenever the pair met, there would definitely be an argument before a death battle commenced. It would then end up with him being chased for 300 li.

“What are you talking about? You’re not making any sense! Li Jiayu, even if you’re the leader, please pay heed to your image. Do not throw tempers at random!”

Ran Hongxia widened her eyes and glared at Li Jiayu head on as her reverence for Li Jiayu instantly decreased by half!

“Alright, the two of you… stop quarreling. We still have things to do…”

Hsiao Wanqing noticed that the atmosphere between the two had gotten somewhat amiss, so she quickly stepped out to smooth things over. Hsiao Wanqing shot Li Jiayu a blameful glare as though she was rebuking him for having no sense of priorities.

Seeing him provoking others at this point in time, it seemed that Li Jiayu was truly a young and reckless person. He was still immature and not quite qualified to be a leader yet.

“Li Jiayu, there are still many seriously injured people on the roofs of the vehicles… How should we deal with them?” Lan Xiaoyue asked.

“Tell them, the earlier they die, the earlier they’ll reincarnate. Also, I wish them all the best!” Li Jiayu groaned.

“Ugh…”

“What are you guys ughing for? Do you all think that I lack sympathy? Foolish girl, be more realistic! At this point of time, do you have the ability to send them to a large hospital? Do you have the ability to get doctors, who have long since fled, to treat them? Don’t be foolish. We’re in the apocalypse and there are insects everywhere.

"Also, 99% of the machines required for treatment in modern medicine have all been rendered useless! There’s no hope for these people who have all suffered grave injuries to their entirety. Unless you’re a Second Order Healer, a Third Order Water Sorcerer, or even a Second Order Priest… please revoke your cheap and worthless mercy!”

Li Jiayu shook his head with a stiff expression and said,

“If you really wish to a.s.sist them, grant them a quick death. Do not let them experience too much suffering before death. Just swing your ax down and they’ll be freed… Hmph, looking at your expressions, you probably find it hard to accept, huh? You’ll understand this in the future.”

Everyone turned silent in response and Li Jiayu was too lazy to even bother with them. There was no need to say more than necessary. If he gave them a bit of time, they would naturally overcome it.

After all, the apocalypse was a place that brought out one’s true nature. Under pressure, people will naturally revert to their real selves, with good and evil forming a very stark contrast!

The dingy drizzle of rain fell gently and silently like the countless silver threads of a silkworm. Ten million filaments lingered in the air like a satin veil covered with an ashen gray.

As they unsheathed their swords, Li Jiayu and the group pressed onward over hundreds of meters. They fended off several waves of insects. Not only were there Crimson Crowned Beetles, there were also two maggot-like insects with white bodies that emitted a foul odor and were the sizes of calves; these were Morpher Worms!

Additionally, this was a Higher First Tier Insect!

Appearances were deceiving! Although they appeared white and plump without any carapace to protect their bodies, the truth was that their attack prowess exceeded that of the Crimson Crowned Beetles! Morpher Worms, as their name suggested, possessed the ability to transform their bodies rapidly.

For example, they could produce dozens of legs under their ribs as well as several mantis arms during combat. They could also split into several heads while biting and even produce several nostrils while spitting acid!

In short, they usually maintained the form of maggots, but were extremely unpredictable during combat as they were able to change into many shapes and forms according to the circ.u.mstances. Morpher Worms were dangerous and their only weakness was their low defense.

One only needed to evade its a.s.sault, then the worms would be open to attacks. Destroy the brain and it would be instant death for these creatures!

Compared to Crimson Crowned Beetles that possessed abnormally strong defenses, the Morpher Worms were much easier to deal with!

However, this only applied to Li Jiayu as he had both the Sand Gourd and Frost Moon. For Chu Xiang and Dark Octopus, these insects would prove to be troublesome.

Dark Octopus was a suppressor type, but how could it suppress the Morpher Worm? When it stepped into the vicinity of an Morpher Worm, the worm’s body would produce spikes and render Dark Octopus at a loss!

Thankfully, these Morpher Worms rarely appeared. Otherwise, it would spell bad news for the entire team. However, for the successive battles afterward, the team reaped great harvests. They gained dozens of Crimson Crowned Beetle Insect Cores, including two Morpher Worm Insect Cores. In this way, Shapes.h.i.+fter Lan Xiaoyue’s evolution was guaranteed.

“We’ve finally reached the supermarket!”

Standing before Xijiang University’s largest supermarket, Li Jiayu heaved out a deep breath. He could smell the strong scent of blood. Either the workers or students inside had been wiped out.

The supermarket’s layout was too complicated as it was full of cabinets, racks and winding corners. It was extremely disadvantageous to fight in these types of terrain. If a Venomous Spider ambushed them, that would be akin to seeking death.

“Chen Kun, attract the insects inside with your sound waves.”

Li Jiayu issued a command. Chen Kun had also undergone strengthening with a Crimson Crowned Beetle Insect Core. Although these cores did not really suit the growth of Sonic Warriors,  it had improved his voice, more or less, by a fold. Chen Kun let out a bellow and it made him seem like Thor!

In less than five seconds, insects of every kind scampered out from the supermarket. Five Venomous Spiders, five Crimson Crowned Beetles, ten Corrosive Worms, three Scythe Beetles and a Morpher Worm swarmed toward Chen Kun who was standing at the entrance!

Seeing more than ten insects rus.h.i.+ng over like a tsunami, everyone’s faces paled and they felt an urge to turn back and flee! However, Li Jiayu remained cool-headed and manipulated the sand to guide four Explosive Tags to the center of the insects, then denoted them!

Rumble!

Four deafening explosions rang out! The impact broke a portion of the gla.s.s in the mart. Additionally, amidst the black and red explosions, there were three Crimson Crowned Beetles and eight Corrosive Worms that had been completely fried to death to the point where they no longer posed any threat. The array of the insect swarm had also been broken up! Under Li Jiayu’s lead, the entire group dealt mercilessly with the ones remaining!

As a result, all the insects in the entire supermarket’s had been wiped clean. Everything in the supermarket was now under the supervision of Li Jiayu. He grabbed a bottle of coffee and sipped it, then told Chen Kun,

“Shout for them. Tell the transport team waiting at the stairway to get over here. It’s fine to move the things now.”
