The youth suddenly lowered his face and released a strong wave of spiritual aura towards Wen Jing that was shaped like a blade. He avoided it and it brushed past his shoulder.
Wen Jing with a wave of his left hand summoned a blue colored spiritual s.h.i.+eld in his palm. The two auras met and emitted a bright light. Wen Jing was forced back a few steps by the other's spiritual energy, and his face revealed a cold glint.
The amount of disciples that were originally watching their fight were small, but their hitting and blocking attracted them, leading to many discussions and debates between them.
The two people were only sixteen or seventeen years old, yet they were already around the tenth level of Qi Refining. However, this was unheard of. There was no news about them so they shouldn't be disciples with high qualifications.
Especially the disciple that attacked. His control over the spiritual aura was proficient and experienced. Normally people would need to practice eight or ten years to form such an aura blade. His genius and understanding[1] skills really left people speechless.
Wen Jing's left hand shook. He almost couldn't hold on anymore. Looking past the strong light, he saw the other person was slightly smiling.
He gritted his teeth really hard with surprise and bewilderment.
He had the three yang body which was why he could rise from Qi Refining stage five to Qi Refining stage eleven within these three years. This youth, if he wasn't a four spirit root cultivator, then he must've had five spirit roots. So amazing. Just what was his background? (
The youth(WJ) silently muttered and the spiritual light emitting off the spiritual s.h.i.+eld got brighter. Wen Jing also backed up a few steps and was already pushed to the edge of the platform while hanging on desperately.
With a cracking sound, the blue spiritual s.h.i.+eld was utterly crushed. However, Wen Jing was up in the sky. He immediately sent out four paths of spiritual lights[2].
At the same time, there were two hmphs in contempt that sounded in the sky.
Wen Jing's left shoulder got attacked and was bleeding non-stop. He couldn't even lift his arm.
That youth's eyes and nose also got attacked and were red and swollen.
Originally, Wen Jing saw that he only attacked and didn't know how to block. Wen Jing himself also couldn't form a blade with strong killing intent so those four paths of spiritual light all went towards the youth's face area. That youth dodged the light a little and got hit by two paths. Now even his eyes couldn't open for a while.
Wen Jing didn't wait for him to regain his bearings and immediately sent out two paths of spiritual light with his left hand straight towards the youth's shoulder.
Although that youth couldn't open his eyes, with a slight move of his ear he somersaulted backward and avoided the two paths of spiritual light. He still hadn't completely stood firmly when suddenly a strong wind blew in front of him. He couldn't stand it and was forced back a few steps.
The youth didn't know that he was already at the edge of the platform. Abruptly, the youth's back foot was on empty air. With a light shout, he fell off the platform.
"The winner is Hui s.h.i.+ peak's number 92! The time was two incense sticks[3]!" the referee disciple shouted after a glance at the two people.
There were already a lot of people gathered around the platform discussing who the youth(WJ) that won was.
Wen Jing looked down upon those disciples with a smile. This was his first victory in this life so inevitably he was a little proud. Inadvertently turning his head, he caught sight of a slender figure not far away lightly gazing at him. Surprised, he thought why would Jun s.h.i.+xiong be watching from the side?
He then thought Jun s.h.i.+xiong was a modest gentleman. He must not like Wen Jing's current proud expression so he immediately jumped off the platform. Under the gaze of all the people present, he helped the youth up and concernedly asked: "Are you hurt?"
Even so, his gaze still wandered nervously towards the far away Jun YanZhi.
Jun YanZhi lightly smiled and then left.
The youth that was helped to stand up, also with a slight smile, said: "No need to fake concern."
Wen Jing speechlessly let go of his hand.
His attack power was low and couldn't hit hard so he had to be cunning when fighting. Under the stress, he couldn't think of anything. On the contrary, he used the moves that Duan Xuan used to hit him with every year that hurt him a lot.
Wen Jing modestly said: "My winning was merely luck."
The youth slightly opened his eyes and smilingly said: "I also think so."
Wen Jing was speechless. He nodded his head then turned to leave.
That day, it was only after Wen Jing asked around that he finally remembered that youth's name. He was called You Si. Normally he's on Bei Yan peak and was very unknown and normal. Unexpectedly, before the InterPeak compet.i.tion, when Bei Yan peak was choosing disciples to partic.i.p.ate, they found out he had silently already achieved level eleven of Qi Refining. Even the s.h.i.+xiong's and his friends didn't know. It was extremely shocking.
……So he was also someone disguised as a pig to eat tigers[4].
After the match with You Si, Wen Jing gradually had more people watching his matches. He won another two matches and gained a little reputation. Unfortunately, afterward, he met some Qi Refining level twelve and level thirteen s.h.i.+xiong's and was beaten black and blue. Especially by the Tian Heng Peak . He was actually unfortunate enough to get matched up with two of them and was crushed by their force to the point of not being able to stand up anymore.
A few days later when the first round of the compet.i.tions ended, Wen Jing had just barely made his way into the top eighty spots. Even though he was only barely hanging there the whole of Hui s.h.i.+ peak was extremely happy.
It turned out that, Jun YanZhi and He Ling also entered the top eighty spots and also entered the second round of compet.i.tions.
Liu QianMo felt slightly suspicious in his heart.
He Ling had a high level of cultivation and was personally taught by s.h.i.+ Fu the four winds technique, so it wasn't a surprise that he entered the second round of compet.i.tions. Although Wen Jing was young s.h.i.+ Fu was especially harsh on him and in these few years he advanced a lot. It can be seen that his potential and talent were extraordinary.
However, Jun YanZhi was mediocre and average. He always stayed in the middle range. Under everyday conditions, one couldn't see anything special about him. How come he was so powerful this time?
The compet.i.tion for Foundation Building disciples was fiercer than for the Qi Refining disciples. Those able to enter the top eighty spots were all extremely talented or from an extremely good family[5].
But, this suspicion only lasted a while before it was replaced by joy.
This was the so-called if one was damaged then all damaged if one won then all won. If the abilities of the disciples in the peaks were good, Hui s.h.i.+ peak's days would also be better[6]. Liu QianMo definitely won't be small-minded and shortsighted. He won't be secretly jealous.
As for the differences between the other peak's disciples, there was less to be jealous of.
As long as this world had new and youthful power that was growing stronger and on the verge of strength, the forces that had already been established would normally have these reactions. The first was suspicious and suppression. They would want to kill the newly formed power in the cradle. If that was not successful and the new power insisted on living and raising its head, growing and developing stronger until the already formed forces couldn't suppress it, the forces that have been established would start to be friendly with it and make connections and relations.h.i.+ps with it. Mutually using each other.
Therefore, Hui s.h.i.+ peak's raising of its head would definitely have some kind of effect on Qing Xu Sword sect.
After the first round of compet.i.tions, while Wen Jing had yet to rest and recuperate for a few days, Jun YanZhi and He Ling had to once again enter battle already.
Why did the second round of compet.i.tions for Foundation Building disciples differ from the first round and didn't use battling to determine winner and loser?
Actually, in the beginning, this was a good thing. The people in the top eighty spots of the once every five years InterPeak compet.i.tion were all talents of the Qing Xu sword sect especially Foundation Building disciples. Even more than the Qi Refining disciples, they were the foundation of the Qing Xu sword sect. They could use this opportunity to come into contact with the other peak masters. They could get to know them and also use this chance to establish and strengthen relations.h.i.+ps with them.
It's a pity that later when the judgment results came out some of them were unfair, raising a lot of controversies. There were also a few times that big fights occurred and that was extremely awkward and embarra.s.sing.
For the sake of fairness, Xi Fang invited eight peak masters to watch over the process.
Forty Foundation Building disciples went up onto the stage in order. Except those whose peak masters were already on the stage. Any of the peak masters could attack. Those who could withstand the attack received five little stones. Those who could take two attacks would receive ten stones and so on.
Because the eight peak masters were checking and supervising each other, the process was a lot more standardized compared to the past. It could be considered to be barely fair.
He Ling's voice was originally very loud and with the addition of the four winds technique, it got even louder. When he went up, he actually managed to withstand four attacks. One of the attacks was even from Tian Heng Peak's Golden Core cultivator, Lu ChangQing.
He Ling was beaten by Lu ChangQing's attack to the point of vomiting blood but still managed to just barely stand up with a cold look. When Lu ChangQing got off the platform with his lips tightly pursed and not saying a word, he still couldn't hide the appreciation in his eyes.
He got twenty little stones. A spot in the top forty places should be secured.
That day, there was a ma.s.s of people moving around the platform. Wen Jing waited miserably. It was finally the time for Jun YanZhi to go up.
Tn:
Okay, so there was a lot of youth this and youth that in this chapter which was super confusing so I added a parenthesis (WJ) when it referred to Wen Jing hopefully that makes it easier to understand.
Footnotes:
[1] If you've read cultivation related stuff before you'll know, but just in case you didn't or forgot. The important thing in cultivation talent is the spiritual roots. The less the better and mutated roots are strong too. The second is the understanding ability. I think they might have mentioned this before a few chapters earlier. Wen Jing's three yang body is a special ability not in the list.
[2] I tried to find a picture of this just in case you don't know, but I could only find this which is accurate minus the purple swirling mist. The blue light in the middle would be what a path of spiritual light would look like.
[3] In case you forgot: “This was a way of measuring time before clocks. They would take a varying time from about 30 min to 2 hours for them to finish burning. Sometimes they would be more specific and have weights in them at intervals in between that would fall and make a sound whenever it was past the time so you didn't have to wait until all of it finished burning to know how much time pa.s.sed.”
[4] It's just a Chinese idiom or something along those lines that means hiding his strength for benefits. They secretly act harmless then once you let your guard down or when the time is right they strike.
[5] Sorry, I also tried to Baidu this phrase but the phrase doesn't quite make sense since it means they come from a good scholarly family or something like that but isn't the first round fighting? Also, it was the second round in which connections matter. Here's the original phrase 或者家学渊源之人. If you know, please leave a comment or contact me.
[6] Just in case you don't understand what the author is referring to. It basically is that if they have stronger disciples fewer people will bully them, their standings/reputation will be better, and they will have more resources. The opposite is true if they are weak.
