According to Jun YanZhi's teachings, Wen Jing motionlessly meditated for the entire night until dawn. Not overconfident or worried.  A ball of Qi suddenly formed in his Qi sea that was vast like a wave, pus.h.i.+ng outwards layer by layer and flooding his insides. Then suddenly it stopped. Wen Jing opened his eyes and felt that his ears heard more clearly, and his vision was sharper. His whole body felt light. He had broken through to another level.

Wen Jing got off the bed in very good health: "Many thanks to s.h.i.+xiong. I've already entered the eleventh level or Qi Refining."

"Very good." Jun YanZhi lightly gazed at him.

He had already changed into a new light green outfit that was very common. His hair that was as dark as ink was held back with a light green ribbon. It was clearly a very ordinary style of dressing, but yet it gave off a cold and reclusive feeling that made people want to sigh whenever they saw it.

To escape the feeling, Wen Jing said: "s.h.i.+xiong has a really good temperment……"

"……It's good as long as you like it." Jun YanZhi said in a soft voice. Lightly, he lowered his head and said: "It's already late. We should get going now."

Wen Jing hurriedly changed clothes, clearing the way for Jun YanZhi.

The location of the interpeak compet.i.tion was the plaza in front of Qing Xu main hall. A few months ago they had already finished constructing eight platforms. Four had barriers created with spirit stones.

Out of the one hundred and sixty disciples partic.i.p.ating in the compet.i.tion, the eighty Qi Refining stage disciples and eighty Foundation Building stage disciples each had a separated platform.

Liu QianMo was already waiting there, pa.s.sing out the tokens in his hands.

The tokens had a number on them. The interpeak compet.i.tion used a system of drawing lots to decide when they went up.

This method could still be considered fair.

Every session had a time limit of five incense sticks[1]. Those who win within the time of one incense stick would earn five little stones. Those who win within the time of two incense sticks would earn four little stones, and so on. Those who win within the time limit of five incense sticks would only earn one little stone.

If no winner could be determined in the time limit of five incense sticks, both people would receive nothing.

After ten sessions, the first round ends, and rankings would be determined by the number of little stones earned. Those who aren't ranked in the top eighty would be eliminated. The second round would only be composed of those top eighty people.

The second round of the compet.i.tion was really difficult and harsh.

The leftover eighty people, half Qi Refining and half Foundation Building disciples, can't mix. Qing Xu sword sect had always pa.s.sed down a rule since cultivator Ku Mu[2] that was still in practice today. Qi Refining disciples had to go through a mixed battle elimination round while Foundation Building disciples rankings were determined by the various peak masters.

The second round of the compet.i.tion was truly a little unfair.

In the mixed battle elimination round, ten Qi Refining disciples would go up to the same platform to fit. The first four to be kicked off the platform would be eliminated while the six people remaining would each get ten little rocks.

The point of this type of compet.i.tion is to test one's ability to swiftly find a partner/s to win. These types of skills are very important and useful in the cultivation world, but for the connectionless and Hui s.h.i.+ peak with very little people, it is very hard. They are also likely to be left out or discriminated against.

Some of the bigger and powerful peaks such as Tian Heng peak have many Qi Refining stage disciples that entered the second round of compet.i.tions. Thus, before the compet.i.tion has started, they have already planned out a strategy. When compared to the other peaks and temporarily formed teams, they could be said to have an advantage.

The Foundation Building disciples who are tested by the peak leaders are more likely to encounter unfair situations like biases and fraud

This status had been kept until this year when the Qing Xu Sword's sect master Xi Fang came[3]. There was finally some slight changes.

The interpeak compet.i.tion happens once every five years. The last time it happened He Ling had just established his Foundation, entering the Foundation Building stage. When comparing with the other disciple that has been at the Foundation Building stage for a long time, he was naturally inferior to many and couldn't pa.s.s the first round.

Thus, this year's compet.i.tion was especially important.

Much less to say that the winner would be awarded a large amount of spirit rock, spiritual pills, and different types of spiritual weapons as prizes.

From inside the hall, there came a sorrowful cry from a dragon and Zhu Jin on the platform said: "The round of compet.i.tions has officially begun. If one is hurt and can't attack or move or if one is to fall off the platform, they lose."

Liu QianMo reminded everyone a few more things before everyone each went their own ways.

Wen Jing went to hand over his token and sat at the side to wait for the lottery. When he was just getting bored, he reopened the moral standing interface. Dozens of little windows opened up in his mind. There were no surprises. It was still all green all around[4].

Right after that, he turned to look at Wen RenMu who was not far from him, becoming slightly shocked.

With just a few years of not meeting, why did his moral standing drop from around 800 to around 600? What did he do these years?

Although the moral standing interface was not very reliable and often made people surprised, such a big change this quickly was also truly pretty surprising.

"Hui s.h.i.+ peak's number 92 please come up!" The referee disciple in charge of "Gen[5]" platform called out.

Wen Jing hurriedly climbed onto the platform to wait.

Just when he was going to close the moral standing interface, a red window appeared in his line of sight. Wen Jing looked towards it only to think that the other youth climbing onto the platform was dressed plainly with a pretty and delicate appearance looked a little familiar.

In an instant, the red window disappeared and became green.

Not long after, it changed once again. This time it was red.

The constant changing of the moral standing from red to green reminded him of a person who was good and was evil, but he couldn't quite remember the name.

"Do you still remember me?" The youth said with a smile.

Wen Jing frowned: "You are from Bei Yan peak……" This youth was one of the people that had been accepted into the sect with him back then. He also had to capture a flag to enter a peak; however, Wen Jing just couldn't remember his name.

The youth said while smiling: "You don't remember anymore? Once I defeat you, you'll remember it again."

"Start!" The disciple acting as the referee shouted.

Footnotes

[1] This was a way of measuring time before clocks. They would take a varying time from about 30 min to 2 hours for them to finish burning. Sometimes they would be more specific and have weights in them at intervals in between that would fall and make a sound whenever it was past the time so you didn't have to wait until all of it finished burning to know how much time pa.s.sed.

[2] It's a name that can also mean death or withered wood.

[3] I think this means that he just recently became the sect leader since the original text only mentioned that it changed this year since Xi Fang came.

[4] In case you forgot, this meant that their moral standings were greater than 0.

[5] Since Gen is the name of the platform I left it in its pinyin form, it means tough or straightforward.
