Liu Bei POV
I was currently lying unmoving on the ground, and in my sh.e.l.l-shocked state, all I could remember was that I fell off my horse.
Eh… I got up with great difficulty and felt my breastplate, and then my legs, and then my arms. When I checked that my limbs were attached and there was no wound, I finally felt at ease.
Dust and sand were flying about and I couldn’t make out the battle situation was like. It was also very noisy and I couldn’t discern any particular sounds either.
I don’t know if it’s because I just regained my senses, but my heart wasn’t affected by the surroundings I was in, and I was actually rather relaxed.
But this relaxed state lasted a grand total of 1 second.
“Die!” Just then, a loud, angry and hoa.r.s.e roar came from the side. I looked over, and saw an enemy soldier with a long spear charging at me.
I tried to stand in my panic but the soldier was already right in front of me, and stabbing at me over and over,
I frantically got into position and blocked his attacks with my heavy twin swords. I swatted his attacks left and right, and because he put too much strength into his attacks, his balance was not good and I was able to knock him to the ground with a body blow.
Hu… I heaved a sigh of relief when the danger of my life was neutralised.
“My lord! Are you alright!” Just then, a yell and the sound of horse hooves came from my left. I looked over, and saw Chen Dao with her long braids floating behind her as she rushed to where I was with her long spear in hand.
“I’m fine!” I raised my hand as I replied her, and grabbed the reins of the horse beside me. If my memory serves me well, this horse should be mine.
“Why don’t you sit with me on my horse, my lord? I can protect you better that way as well.”
“No, no need for that for now.” I turned her down mildly as I mounted my horse and got into position.
It will be a little too disheartening to rely on someone else when things have only just begun. At the very least, I should push myself to my limit first.
Now then… What’s the situation like…
“Chen Dao, what’s the combat situation like now?”
“My lord, we’ve suppressed our enemies successfully.”
I held on tightly to my reins so that my horse wouldn’t wander about and looked into the distance and see what the situation was like.
Our side which wore green uniforms seems to be having a very big advantage. Though there were only 5,000 of them, they were the elite after all. As for the enemy side, their numbers were about the same as ours, but they did not have any formation and just charged rampantly. From how things look like now, they should be defeated soon.
As I looked at the enemies who had begun to escape in all directions, I felt pity for them.
“Where is Chen Gong and Zhou Cang?”
“They split their troops and counter-surrounded the enemy that attacked from the side, and are currently finis.h.i.+ng them off.”
That’s quick. As expected of Chen Gong huh.
“Chen Dao, send someone to notify Chen Gong and Zhou Cang. Tell them not to eradicate them. When it looks like they are going to give up, let them surrender and don’t kill them.”
“Yes.” Chen Dao replied, but she seemed hesitant. She’s probably worried about my safety.
“Go. Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.” I rea.s.sured her. Only then did she nod, and ride off.
Hu. When was the last time I personally commanded an army before today? If I remember correctly, it should be back in Xu state.
Winter has now come and gone. If I think about, I’ve been here a while now.
Just a year ago, I was still that childish me who just transferred into this era. And now, I had become thoroughly accustomed to life here, as well the people here.
Though war is not something I’m used to yet, I have been actively partic.i.p.ating in it and I can’t say my hands are clean. Of course, killing people is still something I believe is wrong. I have not changed my opinion on this even after I have killed.
Ah, what happened before is coming back to me now.
Don’t panic everyone, we haven’t reached Jiangxia yet. This is just somewhere on the way to Jiangxia. As for the opponents of this battle, they are just some robbers we ran into on the way to Jiangxia.
How could Sun Quan’s troops be so easily defeated?
But, I’ll be facing Sun Quan in battle soon huh…
The closer I get to it, the more pained I feel. In my mind, I keep picturing Sun Quan’s betrayed expression when she sees me on the battlefield.
All I can hope for now is that, that day comes later.
