Chapter 122: Back to Shangdu

On the dim, hazy dance floor, the crowded air was filled with the smell of smoke and alcohol.

Currently, Rowling Keith was holding a bottle of brandy as he swayed headily on the dance floor with Jennifer, the most beautiful woman in the company.

Jennifer was in her thirties, with a hot, alluring figure sheathed in a s.e.xy dance skirt. Her enchanting body kept twisting to the rhythm of the dance floor, causing everyone’s imagination to run wild.

“Ella, you’re mesmerizing tonight.”

Keith stretched out his hand with bleary eyes, trying to touch her figure. However, there was only a gentle laugh in his ears. He did not know when, but Jennifer had already moved behind him.

Keith chuckled and quickly turned around to hold her. The both of them left the dance floor, bodies pressed together, and walked out of the bar.

A certain, heavy musk seemed to increasingly pervade the air. They got into the car impatiently. Before Keith could slot in the car key, he felt a sudden, surprising burst of heat beside him, then a scent filled the air...

“Cut!”

Just then, a voice cried out loudly. A group of strangers suddenly appeared around Keith and Jennifer. Some of them came forward with lights in their hands to light up the place while others proficiently reapplied both of their makeup.

The sultry atmosphere dissipated at once.

At the same time, a little further away, a man dressed like a director was sitting on a recliner and informing everyone loudly, “The third act is complete. Thank you, people! Next is the fourth act. Villains, get ready!”

Following this, everyone bustled about once more.

Currently, Cheng Cao was silently smoking at one side, uninterestedly looking at the flurrying crew. He looked somewhat resigned.

As Qian Wenhuan was managing the construction of the Eco Science City, Chen Chen had sent Cheng Cao to oversee the progress of the filming in Hollywood.

Although Cheng Cao had never worked in the film industry, he was merely acting as an executive producer. Essentially, he was supervising them to make sure the production team did not slack off after taking the money.

At the moment, the shooting had gone on for a week.

This movie Chen Chen had invested in was named Deadly Crisis: A Shocking Scheme. This movie t.i.tle was a bit trashy, but with the connections of the Edwards family, it had managed to rope in many big movie stars, helmed by the famous Hollywood director Studebaker. It was truly a star-studded team.

The film immediately attracted the attention of many fans since the project was established. These well-known director and actors had their legion of fans. Coupled with promotion by the directors’ guild, the buzz it received was not weaker than the fifth Avengers film which had also started filming.

Even so, all this did not concern Cheng Cao. Now, he just sat in a daze next to the director each day or stood in a corner and smoked silently, ignoring everyone.

Even when some of the female crew members secretly contacted Cheng Cao in the middle of the night, trying vainly to get in his pants, Cheng Cao remained unmoved.

As time went on, everyone started to ignore this statue-like executive producer.

After this, five performers in black, skintight costumes, holding strange props, appeared one by one. The martial arts instructor started to ch.o.r.eograph their movements while the male and female lead continued discussing the plot.

However, for some reason, when Studebaker saw the villains’ get-up, he suddenly frowned and said to the stylist beside him, “Mr. Mill, do you think that these outfits are... Hmm, how do I put this — too old-fas.h.i.+oned?”

“Hey, this is the most cla.s.sic villain look these days.”

The bearded man beside him quickly defended. “I bet that there’ll be no other look that’s more of a cla.s.sic than this movie in five years.”

“It’s not that I question your expertise, but I think that maybe the villains’ outfits are too obvious? It’s as if the words ‘I’m the villain’ are written on their faces.”

Studebaker frowned and suggested, “Is it possible to make their aesthetic more profound?”

“What do you have in mind?” The bearded man instantly sounded huffy.

Studebaker became contemplative. He looked around as if searching for inspiration. When he saw Cheng Cao, his eyes suddenly lit up.

“Eureka! What if we dress the villains in an additional layer of casual clothes? Just like Mr. Cheng Cao. Won’t that be cool?”

Studebaker pointed at Cheng Cao. “If we use the camera well, we can draw attention to the skintight suit at the neck area. To the audience, it’ll fit even better with the idea of the villains’ concealment, right?”

When Mill heard this, he looked at Cheng Cao thoughtfully. “There’s some truth in what you’re saying...”

Cheng Cao was dumbfounded when he overheard this conversation. He knew that they had said all this because they noticed the GS Combat Suit he was wearing.

The GS Combat Suit was well concealed indeed, but its only flaw was that the collar was too high. There were not many clothes that would cover it. In addition, the four “b.u.t.tons” that glowed with a blue light on the collar were so sleek and dazzling, like something out of sci-fi.

To cover up the glowing of the b.u.t.tons, B.S.S. members had dyed the b.u.t.tons black. Even so, it was inevitable that when they hung around long enough, people would notice the details of their collar.

This was the only flaw of the GS Combat Suit.

...

On the other side of things, the primate experiment went off without a hitch. In just one month’s work, the Alzheimer’s disease in all the chimpanzees had been successfully suppressed and their brains had entered the recovery phase.

Seeing this, Chen Chen no longer hesitated. He asked Little X to book a plane ticket back to Shangdu and left Africa with a pile of materials on treating Alzheimer’s.

More than ten hours later, when Chen Chen got off the plane and set foot in Mainland China once again, he instinctively took in a deep breath.

After one and a half years, he had finally returned to his hometown.

After staying in Switzerland and Namibia for so long, Chen Chen had nearly forgotten that he was a native of China. It was only when he got off the plane and saw the Asian faces which filled the airport that he felt an unusual rush of familiarity.

“The feeling of homecoming...”

Chen Chen murmured in a low voice, then walked forward to queue at the administration area of Immigration and waited to be inspected.

This time, Chen Chen did not inform his head office that he was returning. At this point, the head office was in full swing under Xia Yin’s management. In terms of the translator, hundreds of thousands of copies were sold each month. Although this was partly due to the state’s support, it was still not an easy feat.

However, internationally, the expansion of the simultaneous translator had not gone smoothly. It was still waiting for approval in various countries, which in turn seemed to be waiting for their own people to crack the code.

Still, this did not worry Chen Chen. In any case, the core code of the translator was right there. If those people could crack it, then it would not matter even if Chen Chen handed over his entire company.

This was all about a programmer’s dignity.

Ten minutes later, Chen Chen exited the airport, hastily got into a taxi, and rushed toward the affiliated hospital of Shangdu Jiao Tong University’s medical school.
