After sending the knights to settle in until their journey would begin, Dawn decided that she should probably check on Raven. She wondered mildly whether there was good news on that front. If he could regain his memory, how useful he would be.

Already he had proven that he had a good head on his shoulder for doing advisory work. And she had been discovering that he also had a good memory and when she had asked him what he thought on some tactics she was considering he had offered some really insightful opinions.

Raven was the sort of person that Dawn respected. The sort who seemed able to do whatever he set his mind to do. He had a stubborn streak as shown that despite his disadvantage from both loss of memory and blindness he still tried to do his best to be useful.

When she entered his room, she had barely knocked – since he did not say anything she a.s.sumed it was okay for her to enter – she saw Raven sprawled on his bed. He had a hand covering where his eyes would be and a very small smile on his lips.

"Raven? So, what did Geris say?"

"…." Raven sat up, and his smile grew wider, "There is nothing he can do for me, your majesty. I seem to be doomed to blindness."

Dawn blinked, surprised. Geris was a fairly good priest, one of Lumna's finest. And Lumna had some of the best priests in the world. Not only that though, Raven did not seem too upset, "You seem surprisingly okay with this? I thought you wanted your sight back?"

Raven laughed, "Of course I do. But there is no point fretting if it is my fate to be blind. Besides I find it hard to be upset when I finally had one more memory return." He quickly continued, "it's nothing much, but it gives me hope that my memory loss may be temporary."

"What did you remember, Raven?" Dawn knew her voice came out a little harsh, but it did not seem to ever make him cringe back. She had to give him credit for that.

"An older man, I think he was teaching me how to fight. It was nothing much, really. But it makes me hope the amnesia is only temporary. And, as much as I might like to see, I would rather get my memory back."

Dawn could not keep from smiling at him. Raven's past was an enigma to her, and everyone else. No one knew where he came from, or if he was even from Lumna or somewhere else.

His memory was the key to who he was, and Dawn could understand why he would rather remember, though she would give anything for the blissfulness of a blank slate herself. She hoped for Raven's sake that when he remembered that it would not be bad.

"So you know how to fight then?"

"I guess, though I would probably not be the best at it now that I am blind." Raven smiled, "But I might have some insights locked up I suppose."
