Dawn only waited till the next morning to go see what Varenduil had to offer her. She and Raven were received by the king of Varenduil politely. Dawn had always thought that this particular kingdom put a lot of stock in doing things properly. But their warriors were well known for being dedicated and willing to lie down their lives for their people.
And having people who combined speed and strength could be highly useful. More so just because they sometimes ventured into Nix'Ryl on missions.
The king of Varenduil's name was Salmir. He was an older man, though still vibrant enough that he would probably have a while left before he would leave this world behind.
"Greetings to the queen of our sister kingdom." His tone was polite, "I have prepared two of my best at your request. They will be here shortly."
It was not long before a man and a woman came in, and the king nodded to them, "These two are Brilma and Colton, they are two of our best, though I should warn you that they are sickeningly sweet at times."
Dawn raised her eyebrow and looked at the two. Colton rolled his eyes, "If I don't continuously remind my wife that I love her she might get fed up with me and kill me or something."
"Shut up, Col." Brilma lifted her chin up haughtily, "Or else I will shut you up for you!"
"I see…" Dawn smiled helplessly. "Well, if they can do their job I will not complain. They are married right. So it is only natural that they would flirt a little…"
Oh, how she missed having Arrion flirt with her. She missed the way he would run his fingers through her hair as he called her beautiful. She missed the way he would say stupid things in an attempt to make her laugh.
She managed to thank the king even though her throat was now very tight. She felt the comforting tap on her arm and glanced at Raven. Seeing the slight way his eyebrows furrowed in concern for her made her smile.
At least now she had a friend though. Not exactly a good friend but Raven seemed at times to see right through her, and even more than that he did not shy away from her att.i.tude. She realized that Raven was probably the only person she had left quite that good of a first impression on.
They returned to Lumna with their two new members and Dawn prepared to visit Jarenkul tomorrow, she was not sure if she was fully prepared to go to the kingdom that was known most for the fact that it had very little official structure.
Raven left her presence, after he asked her if she needed him for anything and she told him she did not.
For the rest of the day she felt energy coursing through her at the thought that soon she would be able to take her revenge. She would make them pay for taking her beloved king away from her. And if she had to raze the entire land to do so then she would.
She sat down on her bed and gazed down at a picture that Arrion had commissioned two years ago. In it she was seated on his lap, her eyes seemed to snap at the whoever looked at the painting. Arrion ahd a huge smile on his face as he hugged her close.
Tears p.r.i.c.ked her eyes and for a while she let them fall until she fell into an exhausted sleep.
