"Ah, you're awake already?"
When she opened the door, unexpectedly, Felicia was there already. She was planning to wake Eva up so she could eat dinner already. Looks like she didn't have to that now.
But what caught Eva's attention first wasn't the fact that Felicia was suddenly in front of her door. She had already done so a few times before. Eva noticed that Felicia's hair looked somewhat different.
"Felicia, what's with your hair?"
"Ah, this? Cole did it for me."

"Papa did?"
Felicia turned and bent down to Eva's level so she could properly see the change. It was done pretty st.u.r.dily seeing as it didn't need to be retouched or redone. Eva let out a sound in amazement. Felicia chuckled at Eva's astonished face.
"C'mon, let's go."
Felicia picked her up and brought her down to the living room. When Eva sawt the atmosphere in the living room, she felt the need to ask Felicia about it.
"Hey, did something happen while I was asleep?"
"What makes you say so?"
"Well, you seem weirdly happy. Libra looks depressed, the stars in Zhujiao'ge's eyes look brighter than usual and lastly, Papa feels like he's chilled down a lot."
When Eva pointed out, it really was the case. Libra had bags under their eyes even though a full day hadn't even pa.s.sed yet, Zhujiao's were basically with the sun with how bright they were s.h.i.+ning and Cole could care less as he typed away while sipping his orange juice.
"Well, some things did happen but they're nothing important."
Felicia tried to wave away the issue but Eva still had this suspicious look in her eye. The evening went without any incidents since everyone was oddly silent at the dinner table. Eva couldn't bring herself to ask with the awkward atmosphere.
She felt that any sound she was to make would make everyone's focus and attention on her. And that was something she didn't want nor could handle.
But curiosity seemed to be the devil that was bound to her, for after Libra and Zhujiao had retreated to their rooms, leaving Cole and Felicia to watch the dishes, she stayed and hid so she could eavesdrop on their conversation.
"By the way, Feli."
"Hm?"
Felicia responded half-heartedly. She was placing most of her attention on the dishes in front of her. It just so happened that today she was on wash duty while Cole was on drying. Cole shot a quick glance over at the kitchen counter and then asked Felicia.
"When are you planning to tell Eva?"
"When the time comes!"
She didn't flinch a single bit at the question and continued on with the dishes.
"That isn't really a concrete time frame."
"Uh..."
Felicia was left at a loss there. She was a brave person and didn't really have any difficulties when it came to having to tell someone the truth because everyone else was a p.u.s.s.y and couldn't do it.
But when it came to something like this...
"...I'll tell her eventually."
"But I think that it's best that you tell her before she grows too old or... if it ever becomes too late."
Cole intentionally paused mid-sentence for dramatic effect. Felicia chuckled because she saw it as a joke but then she realized something.
"You're setting up a death flag for her! And slash or me!"
"Maybe it's just a Chekhov's gun."
"Eh? What's that?"
"A dramatic principle."
Felicia's face stayed confused. She started to think that she might have to go read all those books in the library explaining writing devices and common tropes. Cole noticed that by this time, Eva had already gone back upstairs.
Cole noticed that she didn't seem particularly surprised so maybe she actually already knew. He thought that she had either found it our on her own or...
'The other Cole might have told her... Or a drunk Felicia.'
The two of them cleaned everything up and then went to their respective rooms to go to sleep. Cole felt quite relaxed today so he thought that he might be able to fall asleep relatively quickly this time. When he had just laid himself down, he found that his eyes had already become a bit drowsy.
〔Hey, Cole. Before you go to sleep, I just want to say something...〕
'Hm?'
Just when he was to enter dreamland, Steward kept him awake. Cole didn't mind, it would probably only take a short while.
〔I think Felicia is a good fit for you.〕
'Why do you say so?'
〔I think it's mostly your personalities. I think both of you can support each other that way.〕
'...'
〔I'll just leave it at that. I have to go back to recovering memories.〕
Cole all of a sudden felt that it was weird for Steward to suddenly say something like that. Now that he thought about it, he thought that everything had become strange today. Maybe it was just a lingering side-effect of his cold.
And with that, he drifted away into dreamland successfully this time.
That night, Cole was able to fall asleep without any difficulties. But something interesting happened, he had a dream.
It was a rare occurrence for him. It was even a lucid one at that. Although, deep in his mind he was considering the possibility that he might have somehow been taken captive everything he was experiencing and will experience is actually a simulation.
Well, it was a possibility.
He had found himself in a pure white s.p.a.ce that stretched endlessly. It made Cole ask himself if he somehow died again. It was because it reminded him of the scenery commonly described in most reincarnation novels. He thought that maybe he might G.o.d if he actually exists.
But instead of G.o.d, he was met with three doors lined up in a neat fas.h.i.+on.
There was nothing that made them look different from each other. All of them were pretty standard wooden doors. The only comment Cole had about them was that they were all nicely varnished.
'I wonder if there's anything behind the doors?'
Cole walked behind the leftmost door. Unlike its plain appearance on the front side, this one had a lot more to say. In black ink, there were tons of writing scrawled all over the door in numerous languages.
'That could look terrifying if it was done in red and was all horror-like.'
Cole recognized a lot of them although there were a few he had never seen before. They had ranged from English, German, Russian, j.a.panese and a lot of the ones we commonly know today to ones originating from foreign planets. They all had one thing in common, however. And that was the word they were expressing.
The left door meant 'Past', the middle one meant 'Present', and the last one, of course, meant 'Future'
Cole was starting to think that he might be visited by ghosts on Christmas when he's finally on his deathbed. He pondered over whether or not he should enter one. But after giving it a bit more thought, he wouldn't want to spend what could be hours in a blank s.p.a.ce so he might as well.
He went back to the front of all three doors and thought carefully about which one he would enter first.
