The redwood vampire plant's defensive action made him think that it had possibly gained intelligence during its mutation. However, he immediately shot this notion down since it wasn't mentioned anywhere in the information which he exchanged from the system.

He speculated that it was perhaps the natural reaction of the redwood vampire plant, similar to how some plants would automatically attack or protect themselves from predators.

As he saw the damages on the trunk regenerate at a speed visible to the eye, he was left speechless. Within almost a minute, the meter deep craters had mostly disappeared, leaving only large circles of black scorch marks on its surface.

The cl.u.s.ter of vines that were injured while protecting its crown also started to regrow. Not long after, they retracted and faded among the leaves, like snakes retreating into their burrows.

Compared to Long Yu's regenerative ability granted by his accidental mutation, it was at least ten times faster. Then again, if his body was to suffer an injury of such a scale, he would have already died before he could even recover.

Not idling further, Long Yu decided to spy on the vampire plant's crown and thus, activated the thermal vision of the drone he placed not far away from the tree.

Through the telepresence headset, he saw that the leaves of the redwood vampire plant were actually emitting heat. Furthermore, it was not just some of the leaves, but all of them!

This situation did not bode well for him. Intentionally or unintentionally, the vampire plant had prevented the drone's thermal vision from seeing through what the leaves were hiding.

Based on what he saw from the swollen veins on the trunk, a possible explanation for the heat emitted, was that blood was also flowing through the veins of every single leaf.

This caused Long Yu to sigh in frustration. The characteristics and abilities of this mutated plant truly made it troublesome for him.

In truth, Long Yu's luck could be considered bad for encountering such a strange and freakish mutated creature that early in doomsday. However, this could also be considered a rare opportunity for him to quickly acc.u.mulate a large amount of mutant cores.

As he was lost in his thoughts, he suddenly heard a loud rumble.

Without surprise, Long Yu already knew where this sound came from. He looked to his side and smiled.

"Big brother, Xixi is not hungry, don't worry about me," Xixi who sat beside him frantically waved her hands and said. Although she was young, she was also a sensible little girl. She knew that Long Yu was currently busy and did not want to distract him. It was a pity that she was not able to stop her own stomach from growling.

Long Yu shook his head and patted her hair softly, indicating that it was alright.

After their arguably successful reconnaissance , Long Yu drove the Black Shark back into the city. Since he intended to kill the vampire plant, they naturally stayed somewhere close by.

The RV was currently parked inside the lobby of an office building. Initially, a sedan had accidentally crashed into one of the gla.s.s curtain walls, killing the pa.s.senger in it.

After Long Yu had gotten rid of the vehicle and corpse, he then replaced the spot with his Black Shark to block the opening, while also taking out the modified RV.

The zombies on the first few floors were easily cleared out with a suppressed gun. Since it would have been too taxing for him to clear every single floor of the building, he didn't do so, nor was there really the need to.

Unless the zombies were smart enough to operate the elevator or fire stairs door handle, it wouldn't be a problem.

Granted, even if they were able to, as long their number did not exceed a hundred, Long Yu was confident that he had the ability to deal with them.

The reason why he decided not to block off those entrances, was that he was afraid there would be other living survivors inside the building. If he accidentally trapped them from leaving and caused their deaths, he would feel guilty.

"Xixi, stop playing with the tablet, the food's ready," he called out from the RV's mini kitchen.

Hearing this, the little la.s.s hurriedly place her tablet aside and skipped towards the kitchen. She then obediently carried out two sets of plates and cutleries with her small hands.

Although Xixi had eaten a few snacks before dinner, she still felt really hungry. Her hands unconsciously sped up due to her hunger, neatly placing the plates and cutleries on the ceramic dinner table.

Not long after, Long Yu came out from the kitchen with multiple dishes of food in his hands. He gently placed them on the table, before returning to the kitchen to fetch the remaining dishes.

Seeing the food on the dinner table, Xixi naturally felt happy. The food Long Yu cooked now mostly consisted of mutant meat.

Ever since he harvested the meat of the mutated eagle and snake, he no longer used the meat of common animals. After all, not only is mutant meat delicious, it is also beneficial in strengthening their physical body; his choice was obvious.

As Long Yu was about to sit down to eat, they suddenly heard a knocking sound on the door.

Motioning for Xixi to stay silent, he calmly moved towards the RV's dashboard and operated the surveillance camera. An image showing the area outside the door appeared on the LCD screen.

The camera clearly captured three people nervously standing outside. A plump man stood closest to door, obviously having been the one to knock on it.
