"U-um… I like you! Will you go out with me?"
It was a strange afternoon for me. I would say it was normal except as I was roaming the school I came across Charley who appeared to be confessing to someone. I didn't know what to do so I hid like I always do.
"I'm sorry. Can we just stay friends?" The guy said to her.
Well, ouch. Another awkward situation that I should make sure I avoid like the plague.
"Sigh." Despite the boy leaving, Charley stayed where the confession took place. I can't imagine what she is thinking so I need to try and leave soon before she spots me.
"Are you going to come out?" She said randomly. Does she know I'm here? Is it possible? Can she see through walls? She must be able to. Well, I guess I have to come clean and walk out. I a.s.sume I've been caught. I should just own up.
I walked out from behind the wall and saw Charley sitting on the floor petting a cat. At that point, a lot went through my mind. It didn't take a genius to realise that she was talking to the cat and not me. Why is there even a cat in school?
"What are you doing here, Owen?" she asked.
"Ah, U-um, nothing… I said without leaking an ounce of information about the confession"
"So you heard that, huh?" She said.
Wait, did I say that out loud?
"Sadly." I was expecting her to get annoyed and say something rude to me but it seems as if she is upset about what happened. I can only do one thing.
"Well, see ya," I said walking away without looking back.
"AT LEAST TRY AND COMFORT ME!" She screamed pulling me by the collar causing me to let out an agonising yell.

"Fine, fine, fine, fine fine fine," I said as we walked towards some chairs that weren't near the cat which I'm allergic to. "So tell me what happened." not that I care.
"So," Charley said. "Since Valentine's day was over the weekend the school decide to do the roses today. I thought I would confess to the guy I like. I called him out here at lunch and you know the rest."
"I see," I said thinking about her story and trying to come up with some words of comfort.
"Do you confess to everyone? It's almost like you fall in love with anyone that talks to you."
"SHUT UP!" She said hitting me in the stomach then proceeding to do a killer combo on my ribs. I must have counted 50 hits before pa.s.sing out.
"Have you ever thought that maybe your sudden use of violence or yelling is what makes people reject you?" I asked as I activated my defence mode. prepared for whatever onslaught was next.
"Of course not, don't guys like girls who they are scared of?"
"I think we've found the problem," I said. "I think maybe you're too scary. Sure some guys like a bit of fear and terror but they don't want to actually be killed."
"What a strange fetish," Charley said. "What are your fetishes?"
"I'm not telling you my fetishes," I said.
"Oh, I see."
"WHY DO YOU LOOK SO DISAPPOINTED?" I yelled back at her as she became more depressed.
"Look," I said. "I don't get what I'm doing here. I don't know what to do in this situation, this is clearly a you problem that doesn't affect me at all."
"Well," Charley said sinking in her chair. "I just kinda hoped you would just keep me company."
"Hmm? That's much easier than giving you love advice on your always failing romance."
"What a lovely person you are." She said. "I can see why you are single."
"We are both single. You can't use that joke."
We sat in silence and watched all the younger years run pa.s.sed playing. Looking at it from here, it's clear to see who likes who. You have the year 7's flirting by insulting the girl they like and the older years trying to act cool and actually being a bit ambitious.
"Wouldn't it be nice to be in a relations.h.i.+p," Charley said.
"Not really," I replied. "There is too much responsibility there. I wouldn't want to deal with it all. Being single is too good."
"The pain of being single," Charley said. "Once you've got it you don't want anything else."
"Yup," I said not that I knew what it was like to be in a relations.h.i.+p.
We both sat back until the bell rang and we had to go to lessons. I can't say I remember what the point of this conversation was but I think Charley's mood has improved a bit.
"Before you go." She said stopping me. "What would you do if someone asked you out?"
"Depends on who it was," I said. "Although, I can't say that I would reject someone like you."
Charley looked at me like I was some holy figure before her face turned sour.
"Ew. that's gross, dude. I wouldn't want to go out with you."
"Well, you don't have to."
Her face fell causing her to look at the ground. She laughed to herself and quickly regained its usual perkiness.
"Thanks!" She said before running off without looking back. I couldn't see her face but she didn't seem that sad. The way she skipped off seemed as if I had done my job. Whatever it was.
"What a strange girl."
