"Welcome, Your Majesty," said a soft, masculine voice as she climbed into the window.

Aella looked around to see the three figures from before sitting up, where they had been sleeping a moment ago against the wall. A short demon, with very dark, almost black skin, stood in the middle of the room, within a magical circle.

"Counselor's," she said, nodding at them, amused by their panicked faces. Turning to the figure, Aella raised an eyebrow. "I'm afraid I don't know who you are?"

"That's surprising, I didn't know you were afraid of anything," he responded with a slow smile.

"You're right. I misspoke. Who the h.e.l.l are you?"

The demon laughed, causing the three to startle, as if they had never heard him laugh before.

"My name is lost to time. I have been trapped here, in this magical circle for over a thousand years, and in that time, I have forgotten a lot of things. You can call me whatever you wish."

"How were you trapped up here, in the Spell Spire?" she asked, keeping half an eye on the counselors. One was inching very slowly towards the window behind her.

"Again, I'm afraid that information is lost as well. I remember very little from back then."

"Then, what do you do up here?" she asked.

"I oversee the magic that flows through the kingdom, and send my servants to do what needs done, since I cannot leave here."

She didn't believe for a moment that he didn't remember who he was, or how he got stuck up here. It was more likely he didn't want to tell her. The servant that was beside her was the female counselor Jugthu. Aella grabbed her wrist as the demoness tried to attack her with a dagger. Giving out a small cry of pain, she dropped the dagger and fell to the floor as Aella twisted her wrist as painfully as she could.

"Jugthu, I thought you liked me," Aella said, twisting the wrist even more until whimpers escaped from the yellow lips of the demoness.

"I do, Your Majesty," she gasped breathlessly, the hood of her cloak falling away to expose her red horns. "But…"

"But, what?" hissed Aella, twisting the black manicured fingers and cutting off the demoness' words.

"You are causing trouble in the kingdom," said one of the other demons, standing up and throwing his hood back. It was Gugrith. His purple-grey hair waved in the breeze through the windows.

"How, exactly?" she asked, shoving the whimpering demoness back towards the other two. "I have provided food when they had none, defeated monsters that would kill citizens of the kingdom, restarted the monetary system, and have people fixing the decrepit sanitation system."

"Yet, you have the people riled up, the n.o.bles are acting as animals, and not looking over the things they are in charge of. Rumors are flying all over the kingdom that you are killing people left and right, and the humans are sending an army to take advantage of the chaos you have caused. Not to mention the fact that no one will like you working with the Heroes. What do you think will happen when that news gets out?" asked the figure, tilting his head to the side as he studied her and waited for her answer.

Her tongue felt stuck to the roof of her mouth. An army? What was she supposed to do with that? She didn't have time to deal with a full army. Was the Church aware that their Heroes had turned against them?

"No answers?" he asked in the silence.

"The Heroes have been persuaded to leave their precious church. I would think the Advisors will be impressed with me. I have managed to do what no other King has been able to do. Who are you to question the king?" she asked, narrowing her eyes.

"You are right, I was out of my place. You must forgive me; I have forgotten proper palace protocol when dealing with the king. I have not had one visit me since I was trapped here."

She felt the urge to throw up as she realized he was toying with her. This demon was worse than any other she had ever dealt with, but if she could learn anything from him, or use him…

"Tell me more about this army you speak of," she demanded, tilting her head down to glare at him, realizing he was also the shortest demon she had ever dealt with.

"The human Church has sent an army to the south, along the mountains with orders to kill and destroy everything in their path. Your hero friends won't be able to get there in time to prevent the slaughter, and the troops you have stationed along the southern mountains are too busy dealing with the swarms of goblins and orcs that are streaming nonstop out of the mountains. What are you going to do, King Aella?"

Scenarios ran through her mind, but none of them would work well. Even if she could get word to the troops using Varnin's communication device, they couldn't let the monsters get through. One option came to mind, but if she dealt with the problem herself, it would give away her secret of being the Air and Fire Hero. Of course, if this demon were lying, she would be miles out of the way of any other problem that might arise.

"The first thing I'm going to do, is kill these servants," she said, controlling the air and sucking the three out of the window. Their screams dwindled quickly as they dropped out of sight. The demon before her growled, his face turning into one of rage.

"Do you have any idea how hard it is to get good servants?" he howled, the circle at his feet glowing as he thrashed around within it.

"I do, actually," she said calmly. "Now tell me the truth, and I may come visit you often enough, for you to not get lonely."

"What truth do you want? That you are nothing more than a half-breed child? The powers you have at your fingertips is the stuff of legends! More than one demon has been killed trying to acquire them, and you do nothing but play with them!"

She smiled, stepping closer to the demon, noticing his eyes glancing at where she placed her feet. "Do you want my powers, demon?"

He licked his lips, not looking at her. "I was not born a hero. Your powers would kill me."

"But there are ways. Ways with magic, for you to get them," she crooned, remembering what Bridgette had said.

"Why would you tempt me?" he cried, raising his arms above his head and going to slam them down on the invisible barrier that held him prisoner.

She shrugged. "Because you want them. I'm just a child, after all. What do I know?"

"You would give them to me?" he whispered, staring at her with such a forlorn look, she wondered if he was using magic on her. She almost felt sorry for him.

"No. You won't tell me the truth." Turning her back, she smiled as he howled in fury, and looked out of the window. Far below, near the ground, three specks were held by the wind, tossed back and forth, but unhurt.

"Fine, I'll tell you the truth," he gasped, panting hard, as if having fought a great battle.

Turning around, she raised an eyebrow. He was covered in sweat and was sitting on the floor.

"The army is actually in the north, and will be attacking your troops later today. The general is your father. He will die and you will know pain you have never experienced before. The monsters that have been ama.s.sing in the mountains will swarm once the army arrives, sweeping over your lands like a plague."

"Why do you want the kingdom destroyed so bad?" she asked. "What do you aim to gain from everyone being killed and everything destroyed?"

"If the kingdom falls, I can be free," he whispered. "I want out of this blasted tower!"

"Help me heal the kingdom, instead of destroying it, and I will see what I can do to get you out of here," she offered. Even though his prison was far better than the pits she had been in for the past 6 years, it was still a prison.

"What can you do? It's not like you can read the magic books in the library! The people in this cursed kingdom can't even read, unless they are the corrupt n.o.bles. You'll see. The longer you remain king, the more of a headache they will become."

"I'll return to speak with you later, when you are in a better mood," she said, stepping out into the air and drifting down towards the specks. Firion deserved to have some fun. Maybe he could get some more information out of them before they died.

After leaving the three with Firion, she teleported to the heroes. The sun was just starting to peek over the horizon, and she had a long way to go.

"Alfred, I have urgent business in the north. The Church has sent an army to attack my troops stationed there. I have to leave you for now, to ensure my people aren't overrun."

Alfred nodded in understanding, but Josephine had overheard.

"What's this about your people?" she asked.

Aella turned and looked her straight in the eyes. "I have to prevent the human army from overrunning my troops to the north. If I don't get there in the next couple of hours, they will all die. I will catch up with you, when I can. I am sorry I have to leave you again."

"You are the king. It is your duty to watch out for your people. I understand. I would come with you, but there is no way to bring everyone and make it in time," said Alfred as Josephine froze in shock.

Her face went pale, then straight to purple before she finally exploded.

"You are the KING??"
