"I don't remember the condition of the other two, but the big fellow should be General Tower," said the Duke.
"General? Isn't he a little young?" asked Master Shannon.
"I thought so too, but he was brought in by my Grand General Hawkins," responded the Duke.
"Brought in personally by your Grand General?" Master Shannon asked with a surprised tone. He had heard of General Hawkins he was a grizzled piece of rawhide. He worked his way up from the bottom to his current position. He was a brilliant strategist and rarely complimented anyone. Yet, this man thought enough of this Tower to bring him in as one of his Generals? Interesting.
"According to General Hawkins, he fought with the young man on a few occasions. According to the Grand General, General Tower was a force of nature on the battlefield. Whether it was commanding troops or fighting in the thick of things, very few were his opponent.
Hawkins said that the boy is tempering himself on battlefields. It's not unusual for him to spend some time in the medical tents. He has a high recovery rate. Once he recovers he runs back out to fight again. That should be the situation with him.
Master Shannon thought about this for a while before shrugging his shoulders.
"Still, I saw those two boys on the battlefield and was impressed by them so I kept tabs on them. I'm pretty sure I saw both of them struck down." Master Shannon said.
"I'm not sure what to say, but they seem fine." The Duke said. He clearly didn't care. Battles like this were common for him. His territory b.u.t.ted against the territories of the nation of Nil. There was a natural pa.s.sage formed by the mountains on both sides. Most of his territory was protected from Nil, except for this one pa.s.sage. Nil often tried to force their way through the natural pa.s.s-through. If they could control the pa.s.sage they would make serious headway into conquering his Chikra County.
He had seen so many of these battles that he was bored by them. He wanted to just wall the place off but the King also had the intention of using the pa.s.sage to attack Nil. He had the intention, but he would never commit the forces necessary to realize this objective.
I want to visit these young men after the battle if they survive." Master Shannon said.
"Of course, I'm always happy when immortal talent is discovered among my people," said the Duke. He smiled at Master Shannon. This was the thing Master Shannon loved about being a talent scout. He loved being a talent scout more than being a cultivator.
He loved finding these hidden gems. He would polish them up a bit and take them to the sects. Talent determined compensation. The more talent one of his recruits had the more money he made. If one of his talents did really well in the sects he would often receive extra bonuses. He was known as one of the best talent scouts around.
The money was great, but what he really loved was finding these gems and see them grow over the years. He had discovered many high ranking talents over his career. He was never able to break through the Mortal Realm and his lifespan was nearly used up, but he had so many good seeds who were powerful he loved to brag about them to others.
He had even scouted a young man who became the son-in-law of the Emperor of the Heaven Earth Empire. If all things went well, this young man would be the next Emperor. Wouldn't that be a great feeling, the man who discovered the Emperor, who could out brag him when that happened?
He thought his luck had run its course after finding the special young man, but now what did he see? Three men, each of whom was far more talented than the future Emperor. He would make a lot of money if they survived this battle. Master Shannon could hardly wait!
"Do you know much about the other two boys?" asked Master Shannon.
"Diederiun!" the Duke yelled. A nimble youth appeared out of nowhere and bowed before the Duke.
"Yes, Duke!" Diederiun greeted his master.
"You see those two dark-skinned boys on the field next to General Tower?" The Duke pointed as he asked.
"Yes," Diederiun responded.
"Find out what you can about them. They've caught Master Shannon's eye." said the Duke.
"The Heavens certainly smile upon them. Congratulations Master Shannon on another promising find." Diederiun said with a smile.
"It's too early to say if it's a good find, but I have high hopes. Alright boy, run along and get me my information," said Master Shannon. Diederiun quickly disappeared to learn what he could.
Master Shannon continued to watch the battle through the afternoon. He was really impressed by the three. They were certainly a group of demons in battle. He was confident that these boys could take on even Martial Origin Initial level Student Realm fighters. If the three of them worked together they were even the equal of someone at the Senior Student level.
Diederiun returned with a report for Master Shannon.
"My lord," Diederiun said with a bow.
"Well, what did you discover," asked Master Shannon.
"Reporting to Master Shannon," Diederiun began his report.
"The brothers are Malkus and Paneneko Gun. According to records, they come from beyond the Dark Mountains and the land of the Amazons. The crossed over the Dark Mountains and came to our lands to find fortune for themselves.
They have no formal masters. They are battle hardened but extremely gifted. The Brothers abilities soar after every battle. This is not surprising since they come from the Dikokan Clan. It's not clear why they left their clan, maybe to adventure. However, like General Tower, they seem intent on bettering themselves through combat on the battlefield.
"Dikokan Clan? Those are some of the most gifted natural warriors in this world. They learn quickly and their bodies have boundless strength. The more difficult the training the greater their strength will become. They train better through battle than simple cultivation. Battle, is their cultivation technique." Master Shannon pondered aloud. His demeanor didn't change, however, there were fiery embers burning in his eyes.
"All three of these youths have tremendous potential. I must convince them to follow me to the sects!" Master Shannon said. Looking at the Duke, Master Shannon smiled.
"If these boys are as powerful as I think, you can expect extravagant rewards for their recruitment. If you have any requests for the sects, let me know and I'll ask for you." Master Shannon said. The Duke was extremely excited, a favor from the sects what a priceless reward! Becoming King wouldn't be impossible. However, he wasn't ambitious in that way and was satisfied with his position.
"My son isn't gifted in martial arts but is a genius at crafting mechanical mechanisms. He has always dreamed of attending the Cosmic Mechanics and Stellar Engineering Academy. Unfortunately, we lack the money and connections, and he lacks the cultivation to get in. I wonder if the sects could help?" The Duke asked.
"I think even a Supreme Sect might be eager to take these boys in. Your son's dream might be possible. Of course, that's if these boys survive this silly battle. If I were you, I would find a way to end this silly battle quickly and help those young men retreat safely from the battlefield." Master Shannon said.
"Yes!!!" The Duke shot up from his chair and had a message sent to his Grand General. He told him, no holding back, end the battle as soon as possible and make sure those three warriors are immediately delivered safely to his tent.
The Grand General Hawkins was watching the battle and was really enjoying the work of General Tower and his two comrades. Tower had always been gifted in tactics and fighting. Watching him now it was as if he was watching an artist perform. He had never seen Tower being so incredible.
As he was contemplating these things, he received an urgent communication from the Duke. General Hawkins was surprised. The Duke rarely ever showed interest in these battles. He read the orders from the General and was momentarily confused. He looked over to the Duke's tent and saw Master Shannon sitting next to the Duke.
Now it made sense! Even he had been thinking about how to incorporate those three men into his army and fast track them up. He even considered sending them to the Royal War Academy for training. It looks like his little kingdom wasn't blessed with such an opportunity. However, he knew that if things went well, the Duke would be receiving some blessings very soon.
The General saved a little maneuver he came up with to use against the enemy if he ever became desperate or needed a quick win He never knew he would use the maneuver in a battle they were going to win even if he did nothing. Orders were orders, and he had his to carry out. Even if he was reluctant.
There was suddenly a great eruption of shouting coming from the troops. The chaos before now intensified many times over! Grand General Hawkins was confused about what was going on. It seemed like something good happened. His men seemed ecstatic.
"Marshal, find out what's going on," ordered General Hawkins.
After a couple of minutes, Marshal came back in beaming with excitement.
"General, it's unbelievable! General Tower and the Gun brothers have killed the enemies Command staff, including their Grand General. Right now, they're rus.h.i.+ng towards the n.o.bles tent and are hunting Duke Vaegle!" Marshal shouted in excitement.
Grand General Hawkins was immediately excited. "Tower, I knew to ask you to join was the right thing to do!" General Hawkins thought, but suddenly, he recalled something.
"s.h.i.+g, someone, go grab those craze shpajits!" General Hawkins roared.
"But General, if they pull this off then we'll earn untold wealth and fame!" one of the General's lieutenants argued.
"If they get themselves killed all of us will be executed. You still want to argue with me or do you want to follow your orders?!!!" General Hawkins screamed.
