The main idea of the project came from Dr. Skylar Brischt, an anatomist who ones studied at Harvard University and became a professor. He didn't stop there, he has a belief that a day would come that he needs to expand his knowledge on the human anatomy. He traveled to Peru in search for a vampire bat. Fortunate enough, he found what he seek and returned to Cambridge to study the anatomy of the bat. Using the Harvard's laboratory he sneaks up and used the facility. With a rat as an experimental medium, he started to get a blood sample from the bat and placed it on the microscope. He was fascinated by what he saw, the blood was of shades of dark red. He then added to the same specimen, the blood sample he got from the rat. He was so into it, the darker shades of red eats up the lighter ones and turned to be almost black in color. He set it aside and got another sample from the bat. He injected it to the rat and called it a night. He cleaned up his table and sneaks away. Dr. Brischt carelessly left the rat cage open. The rat climbs up and went to another table where particle of a Human Growth Hormone was left uncleaned. It licked it all up and roam around the laboratory. When morning comes, Dr. Brischt rush through the laboratory only to find out that the rat was no longer there. He searched up the whole laboratory and found the little rat under the cabinet at the last corner of the room. He picked it up and stunned by what he saw, the rat's back was almost like a camel's and he saw two tiny fangs which was not there last night. The eyes too red that it almost glow in the dim light. He hurried and took an x-ray, studied it up and taking notes to every changes the rat progressing day by day. He took another blood sample from the rat and looked at it. He can't believe his eyes. The blood seems to dry up the moment he put some on the specimen. He took some of it to a friend and like him Dr. Mika Verdan felt the need to study it more. The two of them then figured out that the rat had some drug mixed up in its blood.
"This is really fascinating Dr. Brischt. The fact that you turned this rat into something extraordinary, I-I don't know what to say."
"Dr. Verdan, it was all an accident, but to know the very reason of this mutation, with your help, we can do something else. Something more valuable and helpful."
"What do you mean Dr. Brischt?" Dr. Verdan asked confusingly.
"I know someone who can finance us with this project. Someone who can supply us with all we need and a place where we can expand our research."
"Don't tell me your going to propose this project to Senator Johanssen."
With a sly smile, Dr. Verdan then knew what's on his mind.
"Can't you see. This is our chance to create something phenomenal."
"What can you do with a rat and a bat? It's just mutated that's why it's like that."
In the middle of their argument they noticed that the rat suddenly acts strange. It keeps on turning around and seems like it wants something. Dr. Verdan then opened the cage and took the rat out when she screams in pain for the rat bit her hand. She then shook her hand to drop the rat, but it was biting too deeply for it to let go. She can feel the rat sucking on her blood and seems like filling itself up to its content. Dr. Brischt hit the head of the rat while it was still on Dr. Verdan's hand. It flew a bit far and ran towards the door. Dr. Brischt raced to it and luckily got there first to lock the door and hit the rat again with all its might until it dies.
"Dr. Verdan, are you alright?" asked Dr. Brischt in a trembling voice. He saw that the blood from the bitten hand was still flowing out.
"D-Dr. B-Brischt, I-I f-feel w-weird. It's like I'm drying up." her face turned pale and her lips chapped.
Dr. Brischt hurriedly called for an ambulance. He went to the hospital with Dr. Verdan but sadly she didn't make it in time. The doctors who attended her couldn't think of the main cause of her death. She was too dehydrated, her skin turned pale and her eyes almost bulging out. Dr. Brischt was called by the board of directors of the University and asked for the complete explanation about the incident. He was fired as a professor and banned from practicing researches on his current work. He was banned from all research facilities and other medical inst.i.tutes. Even in the interrogation, he didn't say a single word about the mutation of the rat. All of it was kept secret until this day.
Dr. Brischt found his future in the supervision of the Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staffs Gen. Frank Walters. Who by then thinks that the project would be of a great help to the military forces ones Dr. Brischt can manage to pull it off. Gen Walters and Dr. Brischt laid out their proposal to the other Chairman of the Joint Staff in the other 5 countries. They gave 5 years treaty to the said project. Each of them desire such power in time when its done. All they have to do is hide every single detail about this matters to the Presidents and other government officials. Specially to the public eye. With the Tristan da Cunha spot, they started the construction that only lasted in 8 months. Dr. Brischt now can freely dig up his project and enhance it more to its full capacity. The vicinity is heavily guarded and all the scientists helping out with the project at isolated in the area. They are not allowed to go out nor to sneak or they'll be killed. This project is highly confidential that they won't allow a single detail to leak out. With new and modern technology intact, Dr. Brischt is eager to perfect his Vampire project.
Even in the distant sight of success, behind every country's willingness to cooperate lies an inner motive of selfishness. Hidden-Allied Facility is made up of all representative of the 6 countries. Every now and then the Chairman's would like to have and update on the project. Dr. Brischt set 2 different methods in initiating the mutation. The first one is the Injection process and the other one is the Biting process. Every animal shows different reaction, some of them die and some of them are too hostile that they ended being killed. Out of 100 animal tests, only 3% of them survived. Others suddenly decompose in the first 2 hours and other are killed because of hostility. The Chairman's are not happy with the progress of the project. They urge Dr. Brischt to double his effort and develop new sets of tests. Suddenly, the Russian Chairman of Joint Chief of Staffs Gen. Ioann Nushka proposed to use the different types of monkeys that are near to the structure of a human being.
"Dr. Brischt, it's been 3 years and we don't have any good call on this project. May I suggest that it's better to use those monkeys for your experiments rather than the other animals you've been using. It's more near to human structure than those crawling beasts." there's a sound of impatience in his voice.
"Good suggestion General. I may have overlook the possibility but it can drag me to success with your suggestion."
"I'm not suggesting this to be overlooked again Dr. Brischt. I'm running out of patience, if this takes longer than expected I'll cut the financial support in half."
"Don't sir. Please, just give---"
"We've given you enough time. In 5 months I want this completely done."
"Isn't it a bit rude to act that way Gen. Nushka." Gen. Johanssen sit next to Gen. Yang.
"It isn't General. That Doctor's a bit lazy, he needed some inspiration." Gen. Nushka smirks off while walking away.
"Gen. Johansses, how sure are you that this will work?" Gen. Li-ren Yang asked in a solid voice.
"Gen. Yang, I saw it with my own eyes. It's just a matter of patience and this will be a success." Gen. Yang stood up and walked away, following Gen. Nushka's way.
Five months sounds so short for the project but Dr. Brischt needed to sort things out or this will be impossible for him to claim as a success. He set out new plans and calculation on the amount of blood injected and HGH content to each blood sample. He was given only 5 monkeys to be used in this experiment. On the first month he used the little one and it ended up dying, this time he set out the after-research team to determine the failure in each tests which he hasn't done for the past years. On the second month, adjusting the content of bat blood and HGH to fit on the monkeys weight and size, they used the Injection method and taking turns in observing it each hour. Taking notes on the different scenes they see on the monkey's body reaction and habits. It was dawn when a young scientist notices that the monkey they name BB-502 keeps on biting the wood they laid out awhile ago and stunned by the current scene, Dr. Daniels called up to Dr. Brischt and the others and they started doc.u.menting it. After 24 hours, the monkey survived its first day. They taped the mouth and hands and get a new set of blood samples. On the second day, they notice that it seems like dehydrating they gave it food and water but it doesn't even lay a hand on it. Dr. Brischt then remembered the time Dr. Verdan died. He asked Dr. Daniels to pick up a dog and put it next to BB-502. At first the monkey jumped up and down, like panicking. The dog then barks like it knows something's about to happen. Then suddenly, the monkey rush towards the dog, it happened so fast like just seconds its fangs are right where they should be. They are all stunned and a clap gets their attention.
"Very well done Dr. Brischt."A monitor popped up revealing the 5 Chairman's. Gen. Johanssen saw it for himself.
"That's what I was looking forward to. I guess were ready to test it to a human now. Am I right Dr. Brischt?" Geen. Nushka grins in amus.e.m.e.nt.
"But General I still have a year before the treaty ends. It's not that simple to test it to a human." Dr. Brischt said in a lowtone.
"General Nushka, let's finish the treaty we all agreed to first before we jumped into another test. For now let's just enjoy the scenery of the success that lies ahead." they all clapped for the success of BB-502.
BB-502 is monitored closely for other information that they needed to take note to. The other 3 shows the same sign as BB-502. No doubt the experiment is a success. All of them are injection method, Dr. Brischt just reserved the second method for the next experiments to come. Satisfied with the current output of BB-502, they prepared for the real deal. Turning a human into a Vampire.
