Why did elders have to be such busy bodies? Couldn't they just leave the younger generation in peace?

If this was a normal circ.u.mstance, the man would bluntly call his parents and tell them that he was married but for the sake of the mystery that he was trying to unravel, Kang Jun couldn't risk it.

Kang Jun checked his emails silently as he thought of what to do about his parents.

As for now, they were doing all this bride choosing nonsense in secret so Kang Jun couldn't possibly show that he knew about it but he didn't want them to set up an engagement without him knowing like his grandparents had done with him previously.

He didn't know what the best course of action was as of right now...

So the only thing that came to mind was to consult with Lu AnLing about it.

He called Le AnLing but the line was busy.

At the Halo Stars Entertainment building, Sheng waited for Lu AnLing at the door.

Once she was done with signing the contract, she exited the room and Sheng somehow convinced her to go grab a small bite to eat before she called Kang Jun to pick her up.

They didn't go far, in fact, they went to a popular restaurant right across from the Halo Stars Entertainment building.

The two sat down comfortably and ate, though it was mostly Sheng who ate as Lu AnLing watched.

Lu AnLing heard her phone buzz but by the time she picked it up it was too late. She had missed Kang Jun's called. She picked up the phone and texted the man.

Lu AnLing: [ Did you have something important to talk to me about? I'm at lunch with Sheng, don't worry, I won't eat much so I can have a good appet.i.te for tonight.]

King Kang:[You don't have to worry about that. Have a good time, we will talk tonight.]

Lu AnLing smiled softly at her phone. She couldn't wait to see him. Her mind was filled with the man but it didn't last long due to Sheng.

Sheng: "Can't you just imagine... soon you'll be so popular you won't be able to walk out like this!"

Hearing what Sheng had said, Lu AnLing frowned. "I don't want that..."

"It's what happens when you're a star. But don't worry, I'll be there at every step of the way." Sheng said this as he patted the girl on the shoulder from across the table.

"Yeah, of course, you will." Lu AnLing laughed mockingly.

"I will, I promise! No matter what, I'll always be here for you. " Sheng said.

"I know." Lu AnLing said with a smile as she lifted herself up. " I'll be back, I'm going to the washroom."

After she said that, she left.

On her way there, Lu AnLing looked at her phone and saw that she had a voicemail. To her shock, it was from the inst.i.tution she had stayed at back in France.

A couple of days ago she had contacted them about Zeke but she hadn't received any replies.

Lu AnLing had tried to call the inst.i.tution many times after that, but for some reason, the person she wanted to talk to, Madame Durand, was always busy.

After listening to the voicemail, where the woman told her to call her back, Lu AnLing did just that.

"h.e.l.lo, Madame Durand... yes... it's been a while... um no, I'm not in trouble. I've been fine since I left the inst.i.tution... I'm calling today to ask you to tell Mr. Zeke to stop sending me money. I no longer need it. I'm in a stable situation right now."

On the other end of the line, Madame Durand excused herself. When she came back, she said, "I'm sorry ma cheri, but according to our receptionist, Mr. Zeke never accepts phone calls from the inst.i.tution. If you want to talk to him, why don't you arrange a meeting with him yourself? I'm sure he would be glad to speak to you. You're the second person he was ever willing to sponsor..."

Lu AnLing sighed but she agreed to do just that. She had never tried to contact Zeke directly though, so she felt a little bit worried, but instead of dwelling on it, Lu AnLing changed the conversation.

"How has miss Anna been doing lately." Lu AnLing asked Madame Durand.

Hearing this, the line suddenly went dead. "My sympathies ma cheri, Miss Anna has pa.s.sed away."

Hearing this, Lu AnLing felt a knot form at the center of her throat.

"W-what happened?"

The line went quiet once again. "Suicide... you know how it was with Anna. She was always back and forth and she was never quite stable. After what happened back then she just never felt as if she had a reason to live..."

Lu AnLing nodded as she listened but it didn't stop her heart from hurting. Anna was the only person she had ever been friends with at the inst.i.tution.

Thinking about how Anna was now gone, Lu AnLing couldn't help but have the urge to cry but she stopped herself.

After a bit of small talk, Madame Durand had to leave and so did Lu AnLing.

Right after she did that, she immediately tried to call Zeke.

That afternoon, after Lu AnLing and Sheng parted ways, Kang Jun picked Lu AnLing up.

In the car, the two drove to Rainbow Valley. They were going to pa.s.s by the house in order to pick up Kang Mingyu but Rong Lihua called. She had told the couple to have an actual date and that she would handle Kang Mingyu.

The car ride toward Rainbow Valley was quick and quiet but before they arrived, Lu AnLing asked,

"For your business trip, you're going to France right?"

Kang Jun: "Mmm,"

Kang Jun didn't look at her but by his tone, Lu AnLing understood that he was waiting to hear Why she had asked such a thing. So without any further waiting, Lu AnLing took a deep breath and said,

"Could I come with you?"

Kang Jun raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

Lu AnLing paused for a second.

She had never told anyone, except Sheng, about her time at the inst.i.tution and about Zeke, so before she spoke, Lu AnLing gathered her thoughts.

Lu AnLing: "You know how I was at an inst.i.tution before when I was recovering after the loss of my baby? Well, it's in France, and over there they have this system where everyone gets a... sponsor of sorts. They call them angels. They give you money and help you get back on your feet and then when you're fine they stop sending you money."

Kang Jun listened silently as the girl continued to explain. Even if he was driving, he gave her all the attention she needed.

Lu AnLing: "My angel was a man named Zeke. I never met him but all I know is that he was an American who lived in France. He has been sending me money every month since I'd been living in the inst.i.tution."

Kang Jun pursed his lips and paused for a second. "How much money?"

Lu AnLing was hesitant. "5000 USD"

Hearing this Kang Jun smiled wryly. That was a lot of money.

Seeing his smile, Lu AnLing panicked. "Though don't get me wrong! I haven't spent much of it. As soon as I left the inst.i.tution I ended up working to earn my own money and I didn't use the money unless I really needed it, but now, I think I should return it all."

Kang Jun nodded. "That's a good idea. Did you contact this man called Zeke?"

"Yes, I was somehow able to. He said he was living in France right now, in a small town surrounded by mountains."

Kang Jun nodded. "So you decided that it would be best to go see him?"

Lu AnLing: "Yes... but also, I've just found out that a friend of mine from the inst.i.tution has pa.s.sed away so I wanted to go pay my respects."

"My sympathies... I understand. I'll make arrangements" Kang Jun said.

Hearing this, Lu AnLing's happiness levels almost exploded. She jumped onto Kang Jun and she hugged his neck tightly. She didn't even care that he was driving.

"Thank you." Lu AnLing whispered.

Kang Jun's lips tugged up into a beautiful smile. "My business trip is only supposed to be a few days but how about we spend a little more time there and make this our honeymoon?"

Hearing the word 'honeymoon' made Lu AnLing swoon.
