Haru slammed the car door shut startling his driver. The driver kept his head bowed shrinking in his seat, praying mightily to disappear. He had no idea what happened but he knew it was bad. He took a brave look at Haru through the rearview mirror and trembled in fear. It was bad. Really bad. 'Armageddon bad," he thought in alarm.
Haru tried to calm himself and placed his elbows on his thighs, grasping his b.l.o.o.d.y hands tightly. He leaned his head forward, resting his forehead on his grasped hands. Haru steadied his breaths until his breathing became hollow and coldness swallowed him whole into a mannequin-like stillness. In the silence of the car and the flesh of his hands torn and bleeding, Haru welcomed the darkness. He lost himself in the nothingness of his mind, the sharp ache of his wounds forgotten as he buried his anger, sadness, hate, and love into a far corner of his being. Haru felt the iciness in his soul spread and he knew he was being swallowed down by his own weakness, his own darkness. It would be so easy to just let go. To let it all go. Saya. These emotions that made him feel hurt and lost. It was easier to not care. It was so much easier if he was just a sh.e.l.l.
But he held on to that warmth, the pain, the anguish. Because as much as he was hurting now, he was also happy. Happiness only existed with Saya. His life began and ended with Saya. He had a taste of the sun and now he had no choice but to revolve around it. Around her, for the rest of his life. Haru took a deep breath, exhaling loudly, he turned to his driver and said, "Call Detective Heijii and let him know we won't be able to meet him today."
"Yessir," the young driver said hurriedly. He fumbled with his phone a little relieved his master seemed to have calmed down.
"h.e.l.lo Detective Heijii, its-
"Get out, I need to speak to Haru for a moment," Saya said opening the back pa.s.senger door and throwing her bag in.
"Ah...umm," the driver said fl.u.s.tered and unsure of what to do.
"Go," said Haru.
It was all the a.s.surance he needed before sprinting out of the car, thanking his luck that he wasn't going to be caught in the middle of the two. Saya scooted in the backseat opening her bag and taking out a small first aid kit. Neither spoke and Saya meticulously bandaged Haru's bloodied hands.
"You still carry around a first aid kit everywhere huh," Haru asked with a small half-smile.
"Always. My parents always said it's good to be prepared," Saya replied.
Saya finished bandaging his hands and an awkward silence emerged between the two, as they pondered on what to say to each other after the chaotic situation that happened only moments ago.
"Haru"
"Saya"
They both said simultaneously.
"You go first"
"You go first"
They said coincidentally together again.
Saya couldn't help but chuckle at their situation and watching her face lit up in laughter, Haru smiled unconsciously.
"Why don't you tell me what you were going to say," said Haru suddenly.
Saya's beaming laughter dimmed, replaced with a bleak smile.
She stared into Haru's eyes intensely and said, "I might have been wrong."
"About what," Haru asked knowingly.
"Let me rephrase that I might have been tricked," she said reluctantly her eyes downcast in thought.

"You tricked? That's not an easy feat. Who was it? My grandfather?," Haru said, a dark cloud of animosity laced his words.
"I can't say."
"Can't say or won't say," Haru asked in frustration.
"Both"
Saya placed her hands on top of Haru's bandaged hands, her fingertips lightly tapping the edges of the bandages.
"The daughter of two great detectives, fooled? With your training and your brain? Really?" Haru asked a bit mockingly.
"You don't believe me," Saya asked taking her hands away.
Haru took her hands back and said, "I believe you. I'll always believe you, no matter what. It just hurts knowing you doubted and still doubt the love I have for you. But that's okay, I don't mind proving it to you for the rest of my life."
Saya freed one hand from Haru's grip and placed it on his cheek, lightly tracing her fingers across his jaw, then across his lips. Her caress felt like the fluttering wings of b.u.t.terflies on his lips. Haru's cheeks reddened and he remembered how she often did this in the past.
"I was vulnerable…...emotionally vulnerable and that made my judgment murky. I'm still trying to piece things together. Trying to remember what happened. I have some secrets I'm not ready to share yet. Not until I have a clearer picture of what I'm facing. My feelings for you are so mixed up that I don't know what to think. Honestly, I came back hoping not to get tangled with you again because it would have made things so much easier. I'm not that same girl you knew and loved. I don't want you waiting, hoping, that she'll come back to you."
"It's not your choice. I don't care. I don't care that you think you're not the same girl I loved, love. I'll love you no matter who you become. Tell me your secrets when you're ready. When it comes down to it, I know you hold all the cards. But do not ever tell me to give up on you, ever," Haru said.
Saya heaved a sigh of surrender, her thoughts and feelings still as murky and chaotic as ever. But one thing was clear, Haru wasn't giving up on her no matter what she said or did. And if she was being honest, deep down, it made her feel happy. His feelings for her made her happy.
"I don't know if we can go back to the way things were before," she said.
"We don't have to. Let's take it one day at a time. As long as your here...with me, nothing else matters."
"Haru, I-
Haru leaned in catching her in surprise. The warmth of his lips pressed against hers made her s.h.i.+ver and feeling his hot tongue, she opened her mouth to give him access. Saya tilted her head to the side, as the kiss intensified. Haru's hands roam freely, exploring and teasing Saya's lithe body. In turn, Saya slipped her hands under his s.h.i.+rt and moaned at the feel of rock hard muscles. She explored his body as intensely and pa.s.sionately as he did hers. She slipped her hands further down, copping a feel of the bulge straining against Haru's pants.
"Hmm, Saya," Haru moaned as he left trails of kisses down her pale neck to her chest. He nibbled on her exposed skin.
"Haruuu," she murmured through gritted teeth.
She gripped a cl.u.s.ter of his silky black curls and brought his head up for another intensifying kiss. Their tongues waged a pa.s.sionate war against one another, their bodies forcefully pressed together in the small backseat of the car. The heat of their bodies filled the air causing the windows to fog. They held each other close in that confined s.p.a.ce, without a care for the outside world.
"Sir, Miss Sakura is looking for you," said the driver poking his head in through the driver's side of the car.
"She's at-
The driver swallowed the rest of his words and his eyes widened in fear and with a sudden plop to the ground he kneeled and beg for mercy.
"Sir, I'm so sorry, I, I, I, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have, I, I, I, I," he stuttered.
He bowed his head on the ground, thinking that his death would be imminent. 'Oh G.o.d, how could I be so stupid. Oh my G.o.d, I'm gonna die. I'm gonna die and no one's gonna know and no one's gonna care. I'm gonna die alone and single," he thought endlessly.
Saya pushed Haru away from her in embarra.s.sment. The blush of pa.s.sion that stained her cheeks now has turned one of embarra.s.sment at having been caught. She straightened her clothes and step out of the vehicle.
"Haru tell him to get up! Hey mister….., what's his name?" she asked turning to Haru.
"You don't need to know his name now," Haru replied as he nonchalantly followed her out of the car.
The driver gulped and said, "Miss Saya, it's Jay. People call me Jay, I, ah, I'm, ah, so, ah sorry, I didn't know, I'm so sorry Miss Saya."
"It's fine. Please get up, I don't like people kneeling. Haru stop scaring him!" Saya said.
Haru snorted in disdain, annoyed that they were once again interrupted. But he gave into Saya's demand, fully knowing how she was uncomfortable with people begging for mercy. he gave his driver a slight almost unnoticeable nod of his head. Jay heaved a sigh of relieve and got up from the ground but continued to bow for mercy. The thankful driver turned to Saya to show his grat.i.tude when he was interrupted by an elegant feminine voice.
"Haru you're here. Kaito and I were wondering where you went", Sakura said cheerfully.
Upon noticing Saya her glee diminished and she said with disdain, "Oh your here too."
