Elena opened her eyes and stretched in bed, the clock on the wall was showing that it was more than 10 A.M. already, which means that David has already left for work. Sean was visiting Mr. Lee, as Jun wanted to arrange a family trip to the dolphinarium, and took the child with him.
"Haaa, and what should I do now?" the woman sighed with a smile. David, as always, did his own thing again, and their light morning "exercises" turned into an intense workout that left her without strength. And where did this man get so much stamina?
Elena got out of bed and headed for the shower, examining the imprints of her husband's love evidence on her body in the mirror, she shook her head and turned on the water. The mood was great.
Since her initial plans for the day were already violated, she decided to relax and devote the day to her beloved self. In any case, she had several questions in her head, the answers to which she hoped to find in the near future.
"Peek-Boo!" Elena cried out, and the young man, poking around in the kitchen with a serious look, at the same second jumped out of his skin.
"d.a.m.n, El! Do you want me to have a heart attack?" Nick rolled his eyes and began to pick up the dishes from the floor that he had dropped out of fear.
"I just woke up recently and thought you and David had already left. Naturally, anybody would get cared when you creep up behind like that," the young man muttered with resentment.
"Hey, come on! I was just joking! By the way, what are you doing?" Elena slapped the young man on the shoulder and glanced down at the stove.
"I wanted to boil a couple of eggs for breakfast, but your stove seems to have broken," the young man said in frustration. He had been poking around in the kitchen for half an hour, but he still could not understand what the matter was.
Elena looked at the bucket of water, then at Nick's frowning face, and laughed out loud, "Ahaha, come on, you! This is an induction stove! This dish doesn't work with it," the woman took another saucepan from the table, poured water into it and set it on the burner. The heating indicator popped, and small bubbles began to appear at the bottom of the pot.
Nick turned to the side, trying to hide his embarra.s.sment, but his red ears did not escape Elena's gaze. "How did I know that it was an induction stove? The first time I decided to cook something, and in general, this kind of stove hasn't been in use for a long time!" the young man objected in his defense.
"Is it true? And what are they using then?" the woman mocked him.
After a banquet in the White House, Elena began to pay attention to the behavior of a young man and noticed that in everyday matters he sometimes looked like a small child who first encountered various objects.
When Daniel once suggested that Nick play a game console, the guy was happy as a clam, however, his joy was short-lived, as Sean beat him on points in all the games they started.
"Hmm, they use different ones. At our place, and wherever we were, either gas or electric stoves were used. I'm just not used to it," Nick dismissed and sat down at the table.
"Okay, just take it easy," Elena made some toast and set them on the table with raspberry jam. The gloomy face of the young man immediately gave way to a reverent smile. She had already learned his eating habits well, and this homemade jam was his weakness, just like Sean's, so Elena knew how to appease him or her son in case of an emergency.
"I need to go home to my father on business, I want to pick up something from my room, will you keep me company?" she asked Nick, continuing to set the table. The eggs were ready, coffee and tea were ready too, they just only had to eat breakfast to go on business.
"Yes, no problem," the young man replied, "What did you want to pick up?"
"Well, not to pick up, really. It's more like to check something," Elena said and spread the jam on a piece of toast, "I recently had a dream, I saw mom and Liu Yang there, they were in the art workshop," the woman began to tell, watching the reaction of the young man, "I'm thinking, maybe my mother's pendant is to blame for the fact that I have such a strange condition in recent days. What do you think?"
"Ahaha, sister, how do I know? Although I know about your family affairs a little, but not so much as to make any a.s.sumptions," Nick answered with obvious confusion, and looked away, the raspberry jam in the jar seemed unusually attractive for him to look at.
"Hmmm, sorry," Elena sighed, hiding her smile behind a cup of coffee. And why was she so pleased to tease this guy? If he had been ten to fifteen years younger, she certainly would not have been able to resist pinching his cheeks. And when he was offended by something, his blue eyes made her want to press him against her and tickle him.
The remaining breakfast time pa.s.sed in a cheerful atmosphere, Elena got up to her room, changed clothes, and went downstairs.
"Ready?" Nick put the portable game console aside and got up off the couch, getting ready to leave.
"Ha? What is this?" he asked with a bewildered look when Elena threw him a bunch of keys.
"You will drive. I need to check work mail while we drive," the woman replied, threw her bag over her shoulder and began to put her shoes on.
"What do you mean I will drive? Do you want me to drive?" the young man asked, hoping that he misunderstood her request.
"Well, any problems?" Elena raised an eyebrow and looked up at the young man. She tied the laces on the sneakers and straightened up, "Don't you know how to drive?" she clarified as Nick had not yet answered the previous question.
"Umm-I can," Nick quickly put on his shoes and walked confidently into the garage, Elena grinned and followed him.
The young man sat in the driver's seat, Elena with a barely concealed smile watched him adjust the seat for several minutes, after which he inserted the keys into the ignition switch.
The woman turned her eyes to the display of her phone, Nick was noticeably nervous, although he tried to seem calm.
"Um, to be honest, I don't know how to handle a manual gear," the young man scratched his head, sending out the SOS signals, but Elena ignored him.
"The gear box is automatic here," the woman answered briefly and turned away, Nick's face was unusually funny at that moment.
"Ahaha, of course, an automatic gear. I was just joking," the young man answered with a nervous laugh and gently pressed the gas pedal, the car started off and slowly drove forward.
"You know, to be honest, I have not been driving for a long time, and I have no license with me now. Are you sure everything will be fine?" he asked when the car left the house and turned onto the main road.
"Yes, don't worry, it's not far from here," Elena rea.s.sured him, "By the way, Lina told us at the banquet that my mother's pendant can be picked up by either my direct relatives or those whom I trusted it. It's amazing, isn't it?"
The car jerked and sputtered out, as Nick had confused the gas and brake pedals, "W-what? Really? I-I did not know," the young man swallowed a lump, stepping up to his throat, and clasped the steering wheel with his palms.
"Don't you want to tell me anything?" Elena's question sounded quietly and calmly, but with obvious seriousness.
"Tell you what?" Nick did his best to focus his attention on the road, but his thoughts were different. Apparently, he messed up the last time, not only with Rick.
"Who are you?" Elena asked bluntly.
"Wh-what?"
"I am asking you which of these two options are you? Do not try to slip away from the answer, you easily took the pendant into your own hands, unlike everyone else. So, either Teser's blood is flowing in you, or a member of the Teser family once entrusted you with this thing. So I am repeating my question again, who are you?"
Silence fell in the car, Nick parked the car opposite the gate of the Lee family house and put his head on the steering wheel, hiding his face behind his folded hands, "May I not answer this question?"
"Why?" Elena unfastened her seat belt and turned to the guy, she didn't want him to feel any inconvenience, but in the circ.u.mstances, the woman could not take risks without asking for such important information.
"I didn't tell anyone about this because I think I can trust you. Therefore, I want to keep no secrets between us," Elena extended her hand back, took her bag from the back seat and put the phone into it, and then opened the car door.
"Stay in the car, I'll be back in about half an hour, by then I hope you will give me an honest answer to my question. If not, I will have to discuss this with David," said the woman, got out of the car and slammed the door behind her.
Nick raised his head and watched Elena until she disappeared behind the gates of the house. The young man took a phone from his pocket and dialed a number, "h.e.l.lo, Polina? Looks like I'm having big problems here."
