The minute money became the medium of payment for goods and services was the point at which the world lost its soul in my opinion. Ever since that moment, money became the most important thing in our world because without it you cannot function properly. There is absolutely no means of escape for anyone from the reality of what money represents in this world. It is either you are in control of it to attend to your needs and wants in life or someone is doing that on your behalf, there is definitely no way anyone can survive in this world without money.

For this singular reason, anyone with plenty of it is more powerful than others, because our society is designed in such a way that the mid-income earners also known as the working cla.s.s and the low income earners can barely meet up with their needs, without anything to spare on luxury in most cases.

Luxury is an exclusive preserve of the upper cla.s.s of the society because they have enough to not just cater for their needs but even much more to spare on luxury and the pleasures of life.

Money is a very powerful tool in our world, wars have been fought over money in the past and even in the present day, wives have murdered their husbands over money and vice versa, brothers have killed themselves over same, sisters too, many unspeakable things have been done to have control over someone's money or some people's money in this strange world.

Apart from the battles that have been fought over money, people have sold their consciences to the highest bidder as well. Some have sold their bodies, some have sold their dignity, some their freedom, some sold their souls for money. A lot of abnormalities have been effected because some people needed extra cash for one reason or the other.

Having taken my time to think about it deeply, I have since discovered that 90 percent of the atrocities committed in this world have their roots in the love of money. The strange and sad thing about money funny enough, is that you can never have enough especially if you have a warped philosophy on what purpose money serves. Your control or otherwise on the urge to have it and more of it depends on what you wish to do with it.

I watched a funny movie in the late 80s about two identical briefcases that got swapped at an airport, one contained money while the other contained clothes, about five different criminal gangs wanted the briefcase with cash so badly that they eliminated themselves only for the brief case with cash to end up in the hands of the owner of the identical briefcase that contained clothing items, someone who knew nothing about the money in the first place. Well, isn't it strange that more often than not illicit funds end up in wrong hands or in the government coffers eventually? Yet, people continue to do all sorts to make money.

Moment of Truth Many of us wince at the thought of the evil perpetrated by certain criminals in order to get rich, when we hear stories of kidnappers, ritualists and armed robbers, how they carry out deadly operations to get rich, we feel so bad because we don't subscribe to such "evil" means of getting paid, but some of us engage in yahoo yahoo (advance fee fraud), some sell drugs to kids and women, some engage in human trafficking Offices, some take over properties of the dead in their care, some steal from private and public coffers but they carry on as if all is well because to them they didn't kill anyone directly in their quest for riches, nothing can be farther from the truth, there is actually no grey in this topic, it is either black or white. You are either making dirty or clean money . It's just that these days, the line between dirty and clean money is so thin that you only hold on to your beliefs as it concerns money making and how such works within the laws of the land.

What Does Money Mean to You?

Someone once asked that if we had all the money in the world to solve our problems, how would we feel? A lot of answers kept flying left, right and centre. What I deduced from most of those answers is that many people just want money for the wrong reasons. Where I come from, there's a saying that you can't tell a man what he should spend his money on, so please understand that this isn't an attempt to tell anyone how to spend his or her money, we all have reasons why we sweat and work hard for our incomes, I am only trying to explain the result of my research on money and the problems the wrong use of it causes in our society.

Money for some is a means to achieve good and worthy things, while for some it's a source of power, power to commit all sorts of atrocities, power to engage in all forms of hedonistic practises, power to oppress people and reduce them to almost nothing. Like I wrote about the importance of money earlier, it's importance isn't lost on me, and I am 100 percent sure that we all need it to make things happen. The best and worst of the society both need money, same for the good and the bad, the only difference is that one can kill and steal to have it while the other can make do with what is available. Once you can kill, steal, resort to treachery, con, all in the name of making money then you have become a slave to money. A slave to money usually lacks conscience, and that is VERY dangerous.

It is always important to know very clearly why you need money. Most of the time everyone wants to live a good life, poverty isn't what I wish for anyone, but you have to do the right things to earn money, the moment you can do anything to earn money then you have lost your soul, it's as simple as that. Never be carried away by the strange desire for lucre, it destroys. I wish to repeat, money is powerful, it is very dangerous when it ends up in wrong hands especially in the hands of people who trample on others or people with manipulative tendencies, they cause all sorts of evil, they make people do all sorts to get crumbs off them, some take pleasure to another height because of resources available to them, these ones love to see the heights of pleasure money can take them to.

Please never fall for the lure of reckless power or hedonism when you have excess funds, I have seen it bring different people to ruin over and over again. Rather, use the money available to you to fund initiatives that will impact upon your immediate environment positively, and depending on the kind of funds available to you, you can touch hundreds or thousands or millions of lives.

Always remember before you waste that cash on pleasure, that many children will go to bed with an empty stomach today, remember that illiteracy figures are still very high in many parts of the world, remember that thousands are still dying of preventable and curable diseases, remember that many are homeless, remember that many are internally displaced in your country.
