I woke up to the welcoming scent of the nature.
Wait...
That's weird. How can I possibly be in the forest?
I slowly got up and looked outside the tent. That's when I only realized that I was in a tent. How could that happen? And why am I alone in this place?
I went out of the tent, still stunned. Where exactly am I? I must be dreaming right?
I remember I am still sleeping soundly in my room. How come I am here? Moreover, how the heck did I get here?
I was more surprised when I suddenly felt someone hugged me from my back.
"Gotcha! You were here all along." I quickly turned around to face him. "Sofie? Are you okay?"
Who is he? Why does he know me? Where are we? Did he brought me here?
"I know that you're just another dream but.... Saranghae, nae sarang." What is he saying?
I was about to say something when I suddenly heard the sound of my alarm clock.
I suddenly woke up and sat on my bed. I looked around and realize I was still in my room. I heaved a sigh of relief knowing it really is just a dream.
"Thank goodness." I stood up and prepared to take a bath.

"Glad you're awake." My twin brother had this smirk on his face.
What a good way to greet his sister, right?
"And good morning to you too, Earl." I rolled my eyes at him before climbing down sa stairs.
Well, that's his specialty. To annoy me every morning. But even though my twin brother always annoys me like that, we love each other.
Anyways, back to my story. So here we are in an unfamiliar place called Philippines. This is where my mom grew up and where my grandparents lived.
My mom and our stepdad brought us here saying we will be living with Mumzie (that's what we call our grandmother.) here until they come back. That also means that starting today, we will be attending school here.
Actually, I will be the first one to go to school today. My twin brother was actually trained by our stepdad's a.s.sistant to handle his work here. Meanwhile I have to take a course in our university. Can I call that unfair? I mean, I don't even like handling a business. I'm not good at that.
I can endure this boring school thing since I missed my mumzie so much.
"Mumzie, mom, I've got to go. Don't wanna be late on my first day." I told them after I finished my breakfast. I kissed them both on their cheeks and smiled at them.
"Goodluck, Sofie." I pouted when mumzie called me that. It was my childhood nickname. But I rather be called by my name Angela, which sounds more mature and feminine. I will be turning eighteen soon.
"You ate too fast, baby. You should probably bring some sandwich and eat on the way to school." my mom lectured.
"Mom, I'm not a baby. Stop calling me that." mom and mumzie laughed.
"Oh come on, Angela Sofia. You're still my baby girl although you're already a grown young adult." Mom suddenly hugged me.
"Let her be, Sofie. Your mom just loves you." I pouted again. My grandmother is really starting to sound like my brother.
"Are you sure you're gonna be fine on your own?" I glared at my twin brother who is still eating.
"You're so unfair, do you know that?" He just laughed at me.
"Just remember the map I gave you." I nodded before waving at them and left.
****
"Okay, Dora's Map- I mean my twin brother's map. Let's start exploring." I say as I looked at the map and followed my brother's direction written on it.
In few minutes, I finally reached my new school. I made my way to my cla.s.sroom, while asking for directions from every students I met on the way.
While I was walking, I accidentally looked through the balcony of the hallway and saw a strange man looking at the school building. I am already here at the fourth floor.
Why does that man look so sad?
'Tic toc, tic toc,'
I suddenly heard a loud sound of the ticking clock.
I was scared and surprised when I realized that everything had stopped. The students walking at the hallway, the trees following the wind's direction. What's happening?
'It is time for you, my little sister.' I flinched when I heard that.
I looked around but saw no one around me.
I looked down again from the balcony. The man is still there. As if reminiscing.
'He shall protect you.' I heard that voice again. 'He made a promise. And the promise shall be fulfilled. Because that promise will prevent the disaster from happening.'
"A disaster?" I whispered to myself as I stared at the man. "Who are you?"
I suddenly felt the wind blew. Everything went back to normal. But the man disappeared.
"You must be Angela Sofia. Am I right?" I looked at the woman who spoke to me. She looks like in her early forties. "I'm your English teacher. Mrs. Marie Vergara."
I shook hands with her and smiled.
"Good morning, ma'am. I'm sorry about this. I'm kind of lost." I quickly explained.
"No worries. You're lucky I run into you." She smiled. "Why don't we go together? Shall we?"
I nodded and followed her.
Hours pa.s.sed by quickly. I've met a new friend in cla.s.s. A very smart and beautiful person named Jadielyn Mendez. She has a fair complexion, wearing a black framed eyegla.s.ses and her braided hair in pigtails.
We had lunch after cla.s.s and just enjoyed our free time while waiting for our next cla.s.s.
"I heard we're going on the field trip this coming sat.u.r.day." she continued while eating the ice cream we bought.
"Really?" she nodded.
"We're camping at Tagaytay. It's like a department's week celebration. Last year, it was cancelled. So they're planning on doing it this year." Camping?! Did she say camping?
"Camping?!" I stood up, surprised.
"Yes. That's what they said." Jadie answered.
"Of all the activities, why camping? I don't like camping." I'm in panic. I hate camping.
Who knows what's lurking in that dark forest?
But my very first friend looks like excited. How can I be scared when I know I'll be having fun with her?
"You'll love it there." she smiled. "Anyways, I'm thinking they just want to experience the Venus Garden magic there."
"Venus garden?" I asked her. She nodded in response.
"Yeah. They say that once you find that garden, you'll meet a very handsome but lonely young man. Like an engkanto."
"Engkanto?" I asked her again.
"Just some Filipino myth you won't hear everyday. It's kind of like an immortal man who doesn't age." Okaaaaayyy... Another magic sh***?
"Riiiight. Oh, Hey! Do you want to visit my place tonight? You should come and meet my family." I saw her eyes sparkle when I said that.
"Oh my gos.h.!.+ I love you, Angela!" I laughed at what she just said.

I brought her to our house and we were surprised after knowing we were actually neighbors.
"Soooo, how was it?" I was talking about the baked mac I made for her.
"Delicious! I didn't know you were such a good cook!" She took a piece using her fork and ate the macaroni.
I laughed.
"Mom taught me how to cook. But when she's not around, Mumzie was the one teaching me." She nodded while still munching her food. "By the way, can you tell me more about that Engkanto thing?"
"It's just a myth. Don't believe that thing." She suddenly snapped her fingers when she looked like she remembered something important.
"It's just like how my grandmother told me that we were from a family of warlocks." I raised an eyebrow, confused by what she said.
"She told me that our whole clan was protecting that place called Venus Garden. And that a part of our clan was binded by a contract with a half-blood vampire. Which explains why they are protecting that place." She explains.
"Okay. That's a bit weird." I blurted.
"See? I told you. It's very unbelievable right? They even said that the first born child are the ones who will be a.s.signed to protect that place." She continued eating.
"I see. Can you describe the place? I'm curious now." I asked her.
"Well, from what I know, the place is like a paradise. A beautiful garden with different kinds of flowers. When you enter the place, you'll be welcomed by the smell of lavender flowers. When you finally reach the area where the fountain stands, you'll find the crystal flower there. That's what they told me when I was I kid. I've never been there myself." She explains. " Oh, right. They say that it was named after the G.o.ddess of beauty, Venus. Also, only couples binded by a promise of love are those who are allowed to enter the place."
"Oh.." I don't know why I feel disappointed after hearing that. Maybe I am really curious of the place?
"What? You want to see it too?" I shyly nodded.
"Just curious, I guess." I explained.
"If only I can bring you there." Jadie whispered but I heard her.
"Rosalinda?" Jadie and I looked at the person who spoke. It was mumzie.
"Mumzie! You're here. This is Jadie. My cla.s.smate and best friend." I s.h.i.+fted my stare from grandma to Jadie. "Jadie, this is my grandmother, Maria Angela Sofia Muntiniez."
Jadie was surprised.
"What? You and your grandma have the same name?" She looked at mumzie and shook hands with her.
"It's nice to meet you, hija. I'm sorry about that. You look like my friend named Rosalinda Mendez." Jadie and I looked at each other.
"Well, that's unsually lucky. My grandma IS Rosalinda Mendez. She already moved to Tagaytay." She explains to my grandma.
"I see. Well, Jadie, hija. Please just call me Mumzie too. You are my granddaughter's best friend now. I would like it if I can also treat you as my own granddaughter." I laughed. I understand why mumzie said that.
To be honest, my brother is a bit.... oh you get what I mean. He's a troublemaker. He only gets serious when he's on working mode.
"Okay, Mumzie. Thank you." Jadie said and smiled at her. "Well, it's late. I should get going. It was very nice to meet you, Mumzie."
Mumzie nodded.
"See you at school." Jadie waved at us before leaving.
"That girl is charming. I think I've seen her before." Mumzie was suddenly in a deep thought.
"Maybe you already saw her one time, Mumzie. She's one of our neighbors. I just found that out today." Mumzie nodded.
"Yes. Maybe it is." I kissed grandma on her cheeks before going to my room and getting ready for bed.

Third person's POV:
"Isn't that the child whom Rosalinda taught how to erase someone's memory?" Sofia's grandmother wondered. "Is she trying to protect my grandchildren? Or was it just a coincedence? She looks like she doesn't remember anything."
