Evangeline groaned when she felt something dripping out from her mouth.
She immediately opened her eyes, sat up straight and wiped the drool from her lips with her handkerchief while glancing left and right. When she made sure that no one was around, that was only when she breathed a sigh of relief. But only to be startled once more when she heard that low soft breathing beside her.
She glanced at her right and blinked several times, trying to ascertain who it was that was sleeping so soundly.
She frowned when she couldn't recognize the man.
The man was peacefully sleeping on top of his crossing arms on the table. His head was facing her direction, and half of his face was hidden beneath his arms. His thick dark, messy hair fell on one side of his forehead showing his bushy brows and that unbelievable dense, long lashes. He had straight, proud prominent nose paired with his s.e.xy jawline and sensual lips.
The man was unbelievably soul-stirring!
Who?
Evangeline felt that he was oddly familiar and not at the same time.
She, at the age of soon to be twenty already saw all kinds of men. The beautiful type. The flirtatious type. The quiet and aloof type. The mysterious type.
However, this man instantly smashed her standard of beauty and remade it a new. This man couldn't even be compared to Daniel's charms nor Asher's allure.
Yet somehow, she couldn't take her eyes off him.
His skin was deadly pale and coupled by his dense dark hair, brows and lashes, he looked ethereal. And yet, Evangeline found herself fascinated at the man's sharp features that she unknowingly stared at him unblinkingly.
Then the man opened his eyes, and her lilac orbs rounded, holding her breath while her heart hammered inside her chest, wanting to break free and crawled its way towards the man.
The sleeping angel woke up and turned into a deadly alluring demon with cold silver irises.
Eric blinked and rubbed his eyes before he grabbed for his gla.s.ses and put in on.
And the G.o.dly s.e.xy demon turned into a mortal.
"Sorry. You were asleep when I got here, and I didn't want to wake you up. I didn't know that I fell asleep as well."
Eric stretched his neck, ran his fingers through his thick hair and then finally, settled to look at the still stunned woman beside him.
"You okay?"
Eric asked when Evangeline didn't answer back and just continued to stare at him.
Evangeline blinked. She didn't know why, but she lowered her head and fumbled her fingers, appearing bashful and shy.
The revelation was too much for her that her brain momentarily overheated!
"Y-yeah...." She didn't know that she was acting like some kind of a love-struck teenage girl on her first date.
If it was another, that man would have been crying somewhere under the table by now or had drop dead on the floor from her deadly tongue upon seeing her sleeping face. She didn't like it that a man nor anyone else for that matter saw her weakest defenseless state.
"So… What are you going to tell me?" Eric leaned on the table while holding his chin with his palm, trying to capture the woman's elusive gaze.
Evangeline closed her eyes and steadied her breathing before she put her game face on.
She smiled and met Eric's gaze.
"I'll get straight to the point then. I want you to do all my a.s.signments, projects and other school related stuffs like taking notes, taking my s.h.i.+fts when it's time to empty the trash and do my other ch.o.r.es. I also want you to buy me lunch, snacks, and hold my things when we are at school."
Eric stared at the smiling woman with an unreadable expression.
"What is it for me?"
Evangeline smile grew wider.
"Of course, I'll pay you for your services. Each month, you will receive four thousand dollars. For the projects, I can pay you according to the difficulty of the task, and I will shoulder all the materials and equipment. Furthermore, if you buy me lunch and snacks, I'll also pay for your meals. Thus, you won't have to wash the dishes in the cafeteria any longer in order for you to eat for free."
Eric smiled, and Evangeline's eyes glint with victory.
"I refuse."
"..."
"..."
"Sorry, I didn't quite get that. Can you repeat it?"
Evangeline's brows slightly twitched as her ears monetarily started to make ringing sounds as if trying to block the words that Eric had just said.
"I refuse." Eric chuckled and stared at her with a mocking smile. "I don't want to be your servant boy."
.....
.....
Evangeline maintained her smile, but her cloudy eyes finally began to clear.
"I see…. From the start, you don't plan on ever agreeing."
Eric continued to stare at the woman with a timid smirk.
"Then why did you still make me wait and have me come here with you?" Evangeline didn't even know that her voice turned deeper. Even though she already knew the answer, she still wanted to hear it from the man's lips.
Eric smiled once more as he leaned closer towards Evangeline with his palm still supporting his chin.
"I always wanted to see you step down from that high throne of yours once in a while."
.....
.....
Something inside of Evangeline snapped and broke.
Her pride. Her ego. Her patience. Her tolerance.
Everything just shuttered.
Different emotions inside her stirred. Anger, embarra.s.sment, shame, humiliation, and above all else – unacceptance.
Disbelief that this n.o.body rejected her. That this n.o.body dared to say no to her.
This n.o.body dares to make fun of me!
Evangeline's lips floated upwards forming a dangerous chilling smirk. She stood up and looked down at the man.
"Well then, I hope I entertained you today. Before I forget, this is your payment for the reaction paper."
Evangeline reached for her purse and grabbed a few hundred dollars and threw it on Eric, not one bit remorseful that it smashed straight on the man's face.
"A job well done. But then again, that is the only thing you are good at. Doing meager jobs for sc.r.a.ps of money to save your hide."
She didn't wait for his reaction and flounced out of the café, leaving the man behind with the scattered money all around.
After a while, Eric grabbed the money one by one, and when he collected all that hundreds of dollar bills.
Riiipp!!
He ripped the money to shreds with piercingly cold remorseless eyes.
I don't need distractions right now.
