"So you did come a little late. But your apology is reflected in your work ethic. This is a nice surprise." She touched his hair softly as she moved forward to help the elderly patient with her walker. A nurse held the door open as the both of them made slow progress inside.
He wanted to continue to prove useful so Nolan began to ask the waiting patients about what had brought them to Dr Wu's office for surgical intervention. He figured out quickly that a lot of those sitting were merely the only English speaking members of the house. The patients often did speak English, but could not read it and were frightened to be misdiagnosed. Nolan rea.s.sured these extra folks with a look up at the sign and reinforced that just spoken English was fine because he could make a note that the nurse could read aloud all the signs. Some folks were in the wrong department so Nolan carefully explained that Dr Wu was not a family medicine doctor and the more deeper insights about her specialty. There were moms with whining children that Nolan found had minor cuts and bruises that he had the nurse come out to explain did not need medical intervention. A mother with a small child explained that he had fallen down the stairs and she was worried that he had a concussion. The mother explained his strange mood swings and changes in behavior.
Nolan had the boy occupied with a fidget spinner while the nursing staff took notes and nodded sympathetically. The nurse tore off a slip before rea.s.suring the mom that her son was just going through p.u.b.erty and these types of fits were normal for someone his age. The nurse explained that there was a psych department upstairs and that his records indicated that his family physician had not seen anything wrong with him. The mother was adamant that her son needed a brain scan to prove it to her that there was nothing wrong. The son looked at his mother concerned as if she was used to doing this. Then, the nurse escorted them out of the waiting room.
The nurse brushed by the reception desk. "If those two come back just call security. My name is Katherine by the way and I am happy that your helping out today. Wu is in a good mood thanks to you. I am glad I am not swamped as per usual. Don't be afraid to holler if you need me."
Nolan nodded looking up from his grading as she disappeared to the back area. He looked out into the room and saw that it had been bustling when he had first arrived but now was only a third occupied. It felt like housekeeping
