For once, Lillian Grey wished for the school to never end. All these days she hoped for the school to end soon so that she could walk home together with Giselle.

Both sauntering back afterschool, slowly pacing with each step seem like prolonged purposefully.

Neither of them talked much but just enjoying each other company.

Lillian Grey and Giselle's home faced the same direction but on different streets. At first upon hearing, both felt delighted on sharing the same route until they stand on the end of the path where they have to depart the other ways.

It always becomes a sad, depressing moment to say goodbye.

Despite it, both seem to enjoy the minute the school ends, so that they can leave together.

On the contrary, Anna and Diego's homes are in the opposite direction.

Hence, without anyone to form a group, Giselle and Lillian Grey, both felt secretly happy to be alone.

Nonetheless, having to miss it today made both gloomy. Lillian Grey wished that the cla.s.ses could continue and that she could escape from Diego's invite.

's.h.i.+t!'

'What am I thinking?'

'Donna invited me personally, yet I'm making up excuses to avoid it.'

'What kind of a cruel person am I?'

'I'm sure Giselle would also hate me for this.'

Lillian sighed.

Taking a few deep breaths, Lillian Grey confronted herself for such rash thoughts. Though to her Giselle became more significant, she couldn't ignore the fact that family is still family and bonds are still intact.

Standing in front of multiple openings that led to many alleys with left and right filled with products to purchase, the two glanced at each other.

School ended, and Lillian Grey said goodbye to her two friends, Anna and Giselle. Along with Diego, she walked together to the nearby supermarket.

As soon as they entered, they saw a variety of items available.

"So, what do we have to buy here?" Lillian stirred.

"Did Donna gave you any list?" she asked.

Diego shook his head and answered, 'no.'

Hearing that Lillian Grey's eyes grew in shock, "Then, why are we here?"

Diego did not utter a word and walked ahead. He took the lead and kept pacing until he found a specific place.

The snacks section.

Variety of kinds, different brands and flavors filled the arena, both left and right.

Without a second thought, Diego walked into the section and started picking out random snacks as if he knew what he wanted and desired to pick only those.

Unable to predict his actions, Lillian Grey only stood at the entrance of the path, silently watching Diego.

'What is he doing?' - Lillian thought.

Just then, she noticed the snacks Diego picked. It was all her favorites.

Suddenly Lillian Grey felt a twinge in her heart, and a sense of unease took over her.

'Why is he picking out my favorite snacks?'

"Diego?" Lillian called, finally unable to stand still.

Diego's movement slowed down when he heard the voice coming from behind. However, he did not turn to face her.

"Diego?"

Lillian Grey raised her voice as if trying to get his attention.

Diego finally turned around.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

"Can't you see what I'm doing?"

"I'm getting some snacks for you," Diego replied nonchalantly.

"For what?"

Lillian raged in confusion.

"..."

Diego felt dumbfounded.

Without responding to her, he grabbed the last item from the stock-filled rows and then walked towards the counter to pay the bill.

Lillian didn't continue further and followed him right behind.

Standing at the counter, Diego maintained silence. Next to him stood Lillian Grey.

While he waited, she took a full, detailed glance at him.

The face she saw for billion times while growing up, somehow looked strange today.

Diego's face was calm yet seemed unfamiliar as if he held looked like a child who would snap anytime if things did not go his way.

He looked cold yet friendly.

His gaze was firm, yet looked possessive.

His brows knitted together not creased too much to reveal his subtle oppression.

Lillian Grey did not know that Diego felt disturbed when she agreed to his offer only after Giselle's persuasion. However, she sensed that deep inside, Diego held some worry.

"Diego?" she called out of nowhere.

Diego's face turned to face her. His steady gaze eased when his eyes met hers.

After staring intensely at each other, Diego snapped out, "What?"

Lillian shook her head and replied, "Nothing."

She looked over at the cart and saw 'b.u.t.terfinger' bars.

Instantly her mood changed to quirky as she rhythmed their slogan.

"n.o.body better lay a finger on my b.u.t.terfinger!"

Diego joined, "Did I buy two?"

"Yes," Lillian followed.

"Am I going to share?" Diego continued.

The original slogan says 'no' while Lillian knew it, she swapped the answers last.

"Yes."

Chuckling from her wrong answer, Diego let out a bright smile.

"NO."

He firmly rejected her response while finis.h.i.+ng the original slogan.

Soon, their chance arrived to pay the bill and hence the two stopped giggling.

***

Reaching Diego's house, Lillian Grey familiarly acted as if she is a regular visitor. Dancing her way into the entrance, she opened the door and started calling for Diego's mother, Donna.

After two-three calls, Donna noticed that it is Lillian Grey who kept summoning for her loudly.

Diego's father hasn't reached the home after work, yet so, it was only Diego, Donna, and Lillian Grey at that time.

Following Lillian, Diego stepped into his home and went to join the ladies.

...

"What a surprise, Lillian?" Donna reached out her hands to embrace the running Lillian onto her chest.

Donna hugged the girl so tight and gave a peck on her head. Lillian loved it.

"Surprise?"

"Diego said you were moping because I didn't accept your offer!" Lillian exclaimed in a puzzle.

She only accepted Diego's offer because Donna kept on asking for it. However, Lillian noticed that Donna appeared surprised by her visit.

...

The second Diego entered the living room, which is present in the middle of the house, Lillian took notice of him.

"Diego, your mother is rather looking shocked at my arrival. Did you she not invite me and was it you who kept insisting me to come?" she called him out.

Diego's expression remained calm, yet he gave one look towards his mother, sending her a strong signal.

Donna saw his son giving her the 'yes, it was me who want to see you and not Diego' look and quickly s.h.i.+fting her gesture, Donna released her hug and let go of Lillian Grey.

"Look at me forgetting things I am getting old, I guess," Donna remarked, as she welcomed Lillian to sit down.

"Really?" Lillian threw the question at Diego once again.

"Do you think that I want to see your face here even after school?" Diego dodged the question as he placed the shopping bag in front of Lillian Grey. Distracted by the snack in front of her, Lillian dropped her investigation and only focused on snacking.

Donna dragged Diego into the kitchen and asked about what was going on.

Diego replied that he invited Lillian for dinner and that it was his mother's request.

Indeed, Donna was the one who asked Diego to invite Lillian sometime as she was planning to cook lamprey pie and Lillian said that she wanted to taste it. However, when Lillian dodged the request at first, Diego informed his mother, and instantly Donna let go of it.

What she didn't know was that Diego persisted Lillian Grey to visit his mother!

"Can you prepare the dish today?" Diego asked impatiently.

He appeared as if he only wants to hear a positive response. Donna noticed her son behaving differently for the first time. She knew the trio's friends.h.i.+p but seeing his reactions made Donna go along with him for the time being.

"Of course, I can, let her stay with us for dinner tonight."

Donna's words brought smile and satisfaction to Diego's face. He nodded and then went back to the living room to accompany his special guest.

***

Donna was working in the kitchen while Lillian gobbled the snacks one after the other. Watching her consume all of it at once, Diego seized the shopping bag away from Lillian Grey.

"Hey?" she yelled as if someone stole her precious thing.

"You came here for dinner, didn't you?"

"Then stop eating these greasy things," Diego advised.

"Didn't you buy them for me?" Lillian raised the question.

"..." Diego kept quiet.

After a pause, he responded, "You can take them back home."

Unable to continue eating her snacks, Lillian Grey appeared gloomy. It was only the two left alone. Diego didn't talk and was busy with his mobile phone.

Dying from the silence, Lillian Grey left Diego saying that she would help Donna in cooking. Entering the kitchen, she saw Donna gutting the lamprey fish.
