"d.a.m.n, so it can even be like that!" Lu Zimeng patted at the cold sweat on his forehead and sighed in relief.
And he thought all psychopaths were serial killers like in the movies. So a psychopath could be smart and kind as well!
Mo Qianren nodded. Translated by The Novelst
So when Mu Rulan came out, Lu Zimeng wasn't so afraid.
Mo Qianren drove her back home with Mu Rulan seated in the backseat.
Mu Rulan smiled gently. "Mr. Mo, your storytelling is so interesting."
He glanced back at her through the rearview mirror.
"But why?" Mu Rulan was a little puzzled. Wasn't Lu Zimeng his buddy? Wouldn't it be safer to let him know she was dangerous and to stay away?
Mo Qianren's expression remained unchanged. "There's no need to cause panic. I prefer to use evidence to speak."
"But I thought your evidence was enough," said Mu Rulan with a smile.
What was Mo Qianren's real ident.i.ty? Mu Rulan wasn't entirely sure, but she knew that he was definitely not an ordinary person, which was why she allowed him to enter the house so that one day she could snap the nets up around him and have it all come to an end.
"You want others to find you out so badly?" He began to feel irritated.
Most of the time when a psychopath realized that his doings had been uncovered, the first action to be taken was to either escape or kill everyone so there wouldn't be any eyewitnesses left.
But this person: not only did she not feel fear, she also didn't look as though she was preparing to kill anyone to keep her secrets. That indifferent look of hers was very unpleasant to look at.
"How could that be," chuckled Mu Rulan. "I don't want to go to prison or a mental hospital."
The laws seemed to be lenient to the mentally ill. Even if they killed someone they wouldn't be sentenced to death, but instead they would be sent to a mental hospital. But it was still a prison: a prison that contained dangerous psychopaths.
"Your expression doesn't seem to agree," Mo Qianren said, looking at her.
She smiled wordlessly in response, turning her head to stare at the moving scenery.
When she arrived at her home, she waved with a smile to bid Mo Qianren goodbye. She watched the car disappear into the horizon and turned to type the pa.s.sword into the electric door.
When she entered the house, she could sense that the air wasn't right.
It was already nine in the morning. Ke Wanqing should already be at the office by this time, but she was still sitting in the living room. Her expression was gloomy as she stared at the table, turning her head when she heard the door open.
"Mother," called Mu Rulan.
"Where were you yesterday?" Ke Wanqing demanded.
"Something came up so I slept over at my friend's house. I called home to let you know," she said in response, as though Ke Wanqing was being unreasonable.
"Something came up? What's so important? Your friend? Which friend? Does calling back home mean you can just sleep over whenever you want? Who gave you permission?!" Ke Wanqing flew into a rage, so angry that even her lips trembled.
She was furious. Mu Rulan shouldn't be so willful; she had received an enormous shock the night before and something had happened in the company the day before. Mu Zhenyang wasn't by her side and her two sons didn't know anything.
It was now she needed someone to rely on the most, but how dare Mu Rulan sleep over with the friend she had mentioned and leave her mother alone? How could she be so immature?!
Mu Rulan looked silently at her mother.
Ya… This was the first time since her rebirth seeing Ke Wanqing losing control of herself. Was she really so mad? How could she be like that? When she obtained glory, praise and benefits from her daughter, she would smile lovingly at her. In the end, when she was in a bad mood, she would take that same daughter to vent on instead.
Was it because the punishment she gave her was too soft?
Mu Rulan lifted her eyebrows, looking worried and apologizing softly, "Sorry mother, it won't happen again. Please don't be angry."
Ke Wanqing looked at her, her anger fading and feeling wronged instead. She grabbed Mu Rulan's hands. "Lan Lan…"
"Hm?" answered Mu Rulan gently.
Ke Wanqing moved her lips, wanting to say something but unable to voice it.
She wanted to ask Mu Rulan to ask Grandpa Ke to help the Mu Family, but remembering how sour their relations.h.i.+p had turned after she married Mu Zhenyang, she couldn't say it out loud. Ke Changhuang had been so furious that he announced he wouldn't forgive Ke Wanqing, nor would he recognize her as his daughter any longer. It had been sixteen years since then and Ke Changhuang had, true to his word, never allowed Ke Wanqing to step into Hong Kong Kowloon again.
She thought about asking Mu Rulan to beg him, but would it be overkill? After all, what if Ke Changhuang began to dislike Mu Rulan? After all, Ke Wanqing had been coveting the huge Ke Family business for a long time.
Thinking of this, she changed her mind and said, "Lan Lan, get dressed up for tomorrow night. I'll bring you with me to the banquet."
Mu Rulan didn't question her. "Alright."
Ke Wanqing was satisfied and recovered her kind, motherly look: "Alright, next time, take an extra charger with you when you go out. I know you have several friends but you're a girl, it's better not to sleep over. There are so many people waiting for our family to fall. We can't rely on the men of the family. We can only rely on each other, understand?"
Ke Wanqing would never allow anything to stain Mu Rulan's reputation.
"I understand. I won't do it again, mother."
Her mother nodded in satisfaction. "Good, don't let your mommy worry. I'm going to the office. You rest up and study well, the final exams are soon."
"Alright," nodded Mu Rulan. Translated by The Novelst
She went up the stairs slowly, opening her room door to see two boys on her bed. Mm, it seemed she was the only person to sleep well last night.
The twins had obviously not slept well, most of the blankets on the ground beside the bed.
Mu Rulan couldn't hold back a chuckle as she walked to the bed and covered them in the blanket. Two identical faces sleeping side by side in their sister's bed: somehow it gave out a hint of taboo.
