...
They ran into Instructor James shortly after leaving cla.s.s.
"Feng Wu, bring your child and come to the teachers' office." It seemed he already knew about the baby.
Feng Wu nodded and continued to the dorm while James returned to his office to wait for the baby.
Ink was left worried about Feng Wu and feeling horrible at not being able to help. Although their acquaintance was short, he considered her a friend.
Many thought Feng Wu was ruined, that she wouldn't have the nerve to face anyone. Little did they know she wasn't your typical girl. She had always been dense, so even if people were gossiping in front of her, it wasn't like she understood. She only found it suspicious people were sneaking glances at her. But even this suspicion disappeared quickly. She wasn't the kind of child to worry about things she didn't understand.
...At the dorm she picked up Xiao Bai and little bun. She let Xiao Bai carry little bun as they walked to the office.
Yesterday's confession had caused a sensation so everyone knew her, but no one had suspected she was a mother. The boys and girls who liked and admired Ming Xi had a bad impression of Feng Wu. They felt it was offensive she confessed to him.
Ming Xi kept a low profile and refused to comment on the situation, but those who adored him were ready to humiliate Feng Wu on his behalf anyway.
People were pointing at her the entire way to the teachers' office. She could hear a chorus of loud voices as she neared the entrance.
The offices for the Magic and Sword division were in the same place. Everyone present watched Feng Wu. There were two camps of thought regarding the whole affair: those that felt her private life was too complicated for her to attend Xingguang Holy Academy and those that felt she should remain because she pa.s.sed the entrance exams with her own abilities. There was no reason for her to be expelled; the child could simply be raised outside the dorms.
Because both groups were adamant in their stance, there was a strong divide between them. The office was loud with arguments for and against. It only quieted when Feng Wu arrived.
"Come in. You're Feng Wu yes? Can I hold the baby?" The magician Lou Shali [The female proctor in the virtual world testing arc. The other two proctors were male Swordmaster Aier Rogge and male Swordmaster James.] asked with a gentle smile on her face as she looked at the shengmu holding little bun. Her eyes brimmed with adoration.
"Yes." Feng Wu nodded and Xiao Bai handed the baby over to her.
Lou Shali cooed as she held him in her arms. "What an adorable baby!" Something flashed in her eyes but others nearby couldn't discern what it was.
The other teachers quietly watched on from the side. Their eyes were not filled with judgement. It was as if Feng Wu was just like any other ordinary student at the academy, not a single mother of one.
If either Ink or Jier had been there, they would have noticed something was off about some of the teachers, like Lou Shali. Their curiosity was beyond acceptable normal standards. Their expressions were too strange!
However standing there was Feng Wu, and Feng Wu was not good at reading facial expressions.
"Can I hold the baby?" Aier Rogge gingerly took the baby and held him against his chest. He looked down at the little guy as if he was looking for something…
"The child! Quickly quickly! Let me look!" An elderly man with a head full of white hair bustled into the room. He had an incredibly long beard that trailed down the front. It was also bushy and covered his whole lower face.
"Vice Princ.i.p.al!" All the teachers immediately greeted him respectfully. Feng Wu didn't know who this man was, but she followed suit and copied their greeting.
"Quickly the child! Let me see the child!" He didn't pay any attention to their greetings and upon spotting the baby in Aier Rogge's arms promptly rushed over. For an old guy he was incredibly fast. Aier Rogge held little bun out and the vice princ.i.p.al picked him up.
"This child is truly the one. Indeed it is him." Something occurred to the vice princ.i.p.al and his whole demeanor gentled. He turned to Feng Wu. "You are the mother of this child. Truly excellent! It's amazing you were able to give birth safely." The excitement in his voice was obvious for all to hear.
"I nearly died." Feng Wu clarified.
It was no exaggeration. When she crossed over the original owner of the body was in the middle of giving birth. It was an especially hard delivery and the original Feng Wu lost all her strength and pa.s.sed on. Tian Lan [Feng Wu's original ident.i.ty when she lived with Master.] didn't know she had taken over Feng Wu. She only knew there was a force absorbing her vitality and life energy. If the greater part of her life energy had not followed along with her, she would have also perished in the same way the original Feng Wu did.
"Brave child do not worry. The princ.i.p.al and I will not allow anyone to force you out. After this make sure you go to cla.s.s properly and learn everything you can. If it's inconvenient to have the child around, you can leave him with me. It will not be a problem. I'll help you take care of him."
The vice princ.i.p.al's unusually enthusiastic behavior left many puzzled. They began to wonder about the child's progeny. Could he be the child of a close relative or friend? Why else would the vice princ.i.p.al be so solicitous?
Feng Wu shook her head. She liked this kind, grandfatherly person, but she declined. "No, I have Xiao Bai to help me."
The vice princ.i.p.al's face drooped sadly at her refusal. He really wanted to help. "Oh, won't you think it over? I'd really love to help!" Why wouldn't she accept his offer? He looked like he was pouting.
The teachers in the room felt as though they must not have properly woken up from their sleep. Were they still dreaming?
The vice princ.i.p.al tried for half the day to convince her, plying her with cookies and cakes. Finally Feng Wu agreed to let him help. She would have Xiao Bai bring little bun over while she went to her cla.s.ses.
The vice princ.i.p.al radiated self-satisfaction once he got what he wanted. But the result left the teachers in the room completely baffled. Was the child the vice princ.i.p.al's grandson?! But how could it be? He didn't have a son! Or a daughter! So how could he have a grandson?! They were really confused!
Feng Wu repeatedly told the vice princ.i.p.al and Xiao Bai to take good care of her baby. She was going to go to cla.s.s now.
The school made an announcement shortly after she left.
The announcement said Feng Wu's baby was a result of her accidentally eating the motherhood fruit. Because her pregnancy was due to the fruit it was not a shameful matter. Since Feng Wu's family situation was so special, and out of consideration for the child, the school would allow Feng Wu to raise the child at the school while she attended cla.s.ses.
