A moment later, the disciples gathered at the Writing Hall. Confused, they whispered in each other's ears. No one knew what happened.
Yue Peng had been sitting in the hall for a long time. When the disciples gathered together, he glanced over them and did a rough headcount. He said, "Quiet!"
The crowd immediately calmed, waiting for Yue Peng's instructions.
He was solemn as he stood, opening the door with a view over the mountain. "I called everyone here because something has happened at the foot of the mountain. Many children went missing in Yueyang Town, and their families were slaughtered. From the descriptions given by witnesses, we suspect it's the work of the Yin Yang Sha Twins."
The crowd below cried out.
"Ying Yan Sha Twins? Why did those f.u.c.kers come to Yueyang Town!" "d.a.m.n it, they don't put our Yuehua Sect in their eyes!" "We must catch those two b.a.s.t.a.r.ds!"
Han Changsheng had heard of the Yin Yang Sha Twins. A pair of rogue demonic heads hated as much as the Demonic Cult, the twins were particularly troublesome. Compared to the cult, the two weren't part of a permanent sect, and they could come and go without a trace, their behavior arbitrary.
The male was Yin Sha and the woman Yang Sha, both twins practiced an evil form of martial arts. They could enhance their power by absorbing the vital energy of children. They appeared five years ago, but in that time, had committed hundreds of heinous murders.
Many martial artists wanted to eliminate them. The Tianning Cult's first lesson focused on the most hated demonic heads. They sent people to investigate the traces left behind, offering a gold reward for whoever handed over the twins' heads.
The Tianning Cult boosted its followers.h.i.+p by adopting abandoned children. They would raise these orphans and train them in martial arts. This way, there were few traitors and most were all the more devoted to the cult. Two years ago, the people of Zi Yutang adopted over ten orphans. On the way out of Xiushan, however, they caught the attention of the Yin Yang Sha Twins. In a single night, the twins took advantage of their unpreparedness and stole several of the children. When Zi Yutang found them, their vital energy had already been sucked dry.
While Tianning didn't have many rules or regulations, the most important was to protect each other's weaknesses. While they had not been officially accepted into the cult's teachings, Zi Yutang had adopted those orphans, and they were considered the Tianning Cult's followers. Even so, the twins dared to strike against the cult without putting this first demonic lesson in mind. Furious, Han Changsheng sent dozens of trackers out to find the twins. How could they be so cunning? Even hunted by his cult, they hid for over a year and dared not show their faces.
Yet, today, they appeared in Yueyang Town.
Han Changsheng listened to Yue Peng and, with a grin on his face, said, "Those two b.a.s.t.a.r.ds won't slip out of lao zi's hands this time!"
Beside him, Liu Xiaoqi's gaze was admiring, "Ds.h.i.+xiong, you really hate evil like an enemy!"
Han Changsheng: ". . ."
Finally, Yue Peng said, "This isn't trivial. Our Yuehua Sect is one of the top two swordsmen schools in the world. Yueyang is at the foot of our mountain. We must arrest these two demonic heads, and stop them from harming the people there! You are disciples of my Yuehua Sect. You learn martial arts for the sake of relieving the common man's distress and rea.s.suring the world. Now it is time for your test!"
Not only did they practice martial arts, but they also had to protect nearby residents in hopes that they would send their children up to practice with them, and the local government gave financial support. Since many of their disciples were born in Yueyang Town, they were excited. When they heard of the twins' evildoing in their hometown, many were long since furious enough to fly down the mountain.
Yue Peng continued, "As leader of Yuehua Sect, I should kill these villains with my own hand. But, I cannot get away from the sect's complicated affairs. So, I asked the three elders to lead you down the mountain to find them in my place. Make them pay!"
"Understood!" Below, the disciples' moral reached for the skies, their roar almost enough to raise the roof.
Han Changsheng rubbed his ears and pouted.
In the eyes of these disciples, he saw not only anger and hatred but excitement and antic.i.p.ation as well. Everyone wanted to be famous, and defeating a famous predecessor was a shortcut. These predecessors could be good or evil. For martial artists, challenging each other was the only proper way to secure the t.i.tle. But, for an evil predecessor not stressed by morality and justice, using any means necessary to restrain or kill the target could lead to immediate fame.
Sure enough, one disciple nudged another beside him and whispered, "Hey, if we catch the Yin Yang Sha Twins, won't we make a name for ourselves?"
Another said, "That's it! We need to do our best and use all our skills. I don't think the twins can escape Yueyang Town."
Han Changsheng picked his nose. These simpletons. Yin and Yang Sha were not so easy to deal with, or they would have been killed by his cult. Let these disciples overestimate their skill? Why not just hand the twins dessert after their meal? Since the twins had shown their faces, they really shouldn't think of leaving alive. He would personally give those b.a.s.t.a.r.ds a lesson. Striking his cult was the biggest mistake anyone could make!
Yue Peng let the disciples form teams. Since the Yin Yang Sha Twins were strong and unpredictable, only disciples over the age of fourteen could partic.i.p.ate. Ordinary disciples weren't their opponent this time. Only by working together could they trap the twins in their sword array.
Yue Peng and the three elders divided the disciples into four teams. Each elder led one, leaving the fourth on its own.
Yue Peng approached Han Changsheng and Anyuan, "Jiulong, Huangfu, you have been my disciples longer than the rest, and you have the most skill. Elders Li and Tang are in seclusion, and it isn't easy for me to go down the mountain. There are no elders to lead this time, so I entrust this heavy task to both of you. Take care of your brothers and sisters. Capture the twins."
Anyuan copped his hands and said, "Rest a.s.sured, I will not fail your trust, Sect Head."
Han Changsheng snorted but mimicked Anyuan's maneuver, "I will obey your command."
Yue Peng nodded with satisfaction. The purpose of his visit was to train Anyuan as his future son-in-law. However, Li Jiulong was his lead disciple. He couldn't just abandon Jiulong. To avoid a conflict, he let the two lead a team together. Their martial arts alone were outstanding among the disciples. If they could work together, it would be even better.
Now that everything was arranged, Yue Peng said, "Time is urgent, go quickly."
The three elders left with their teams, leaving behind the one led by Han Changsheng and Anyuan. Han Changsheng turned his head and looked at his team. There were over a dozen disciples, and Liu Xiaoqi and Yue Yu-er were among them. Yue Peng arranged his daughter into this team in hopes of creating opportunities for her and Anyuan to cultivate their feelings. However, once Yue Peng left, Yue Yu-er went to Han Changsheng's side and said, "Ds.h.i.+xiong, we must beat the Yin Yang Sha Twins to a pulp this time!"
Han Changsheng laughed bitterly.
Anyuan said, "Xiao s.h.i.+mei, don't underestimate the enemy."
Yue Yu-er rolled her eyes, "With Ds.h.i.+xiong here, the Yin Yang Sha Twins are nothing!"
Anyuan looked at Yue Yu-er with surprise then met Han Changsheng's gaze. He left the sect for half a month but Xiao s.h.i.+mei and Ds.h.i.+xiong. . . were different.
Once the three elders were gone, Anyuan said, "Ds.h.i.+xiong, please show the way."
When had Han Changsheng ever been polite to him? He rolled up his metaphorical sleeves, snorted twice, and strode down the hill. Who dared make life difficult for his Tianning Cult? Death was a mercy they didn't deserve!
