Bowen Fletcher & Misti
After school, I happily head to the clubroom because of the welcome party for the new members. When Ritsuka and I got down the first floor, I left her there. The main school building and the secondary school buildings are connected by a corridor on the first floor. The clubroom is located in the secondary school building. Therefore, to go from my cla.s.sroom to the clubroom, it’s necessary to go to the first floor, go through the connecting corridor to the secondary building, and then go up to the fourth floor where the clubroom is located. Since the buildings are parallel to each other, you can see our clubroom from my cla.s.sroom. Actually, it’s a fairly long walk to get there from my cla.s.sroom. I seriously wondered if I could make the leap from the fourth floor from one building to the other, but one misstep and I could easily die trying to do so. By the way, someone once thought if you went up to the roof of the main building and jumped from there you could catch the a window frame on the fourth floor of the secondary building. You’re welcome to try it if you’d like to.
Leaving the main building, I walk down the corridor. There’s no walls here, it’s simply a walkway covered by a cheap tin roof. The two buildings channel the wind between them and makes my hair flutter in the breeze.
While walking with one hand holding my hair, I come upon a girl carrying a large number of books in front of her. She doesn’t seem to be able to see very well and walks along saying, “Oh,” “Wow,” and the like, while her red hair sways left and right with each wobbly step. It looks very dangerous. As I’m just about to pa.s.s her, the breeze picks up.
“Wow!” (Girl)
She cries out as she loses her balance. The stack of books fall to the left and she follows along with them. This is a covered walkway with the pathway made of concrete. If you fall in it, you’ll get hurt. Even if I run to try to reach her, I won’t make it in time. Then…
I hear a click in my mind and kick off forcefully. I feel the G-forces pull on me as I take the steps necessary to cover the distance. Holding her up, I grab the books to keep them from falling from her hands.
“Are you all right?” (Tsukasa)
I ask as I close my right eye. Her eyes that were closed tight then open.
“Yes. Thank you very much.” (Girl)
I keep my head down while not looking at her.
“Those look heavy; do you want me to help you?” (Tsukasa)
“It’s right there, so it’s alright.” (Girl)
She says as she stands up out of my arm. I then see the white school badge on her uniform. She seems to be a first year as well.
“You’re a first year?” (Tsukasa)
“Yes. You saved me. A little more and that would have been a disaster.” (Girl)
She is a little taller than I am, but she is still shorter than average, with large eyes and cheeks as red as a apple. Her ponytail seems to be her defining characteristic, and she looks quite young overall.
She’s staring at me fixedly and she has no reaction when I wave my hand in front of her eyes. I’m beginning to get a little worried until she finally speaks.
“A fairy…” (Girl)
“Eh?” (Tsukasa)
She says so quietly, I couldn’t really hear her. Fl.u.s.tered, she shakes her head and says, “No, nothing.”
“Is that so? I suppose you have something you need to do.” (Tsukasa)
“Oh, yes.” (Girl)
She lowers her head and walks into the main building. I watch her until I could no longer see her and then head into the secondary building. After entering the building, I head to the bathroom to check my eyes in the mirror. Thankfully, my eyes are already back to normal.
The secondary building is a very quiet place because very few rooms here are normally used here, unlike the main building where people are always coming and going from the cla.s.srooms and most of the clubrooms are located. Although they call this the secondary building, it was built much earlier than the main building, so there are many unused cla.s.srooms. One that is used is a room at the end of the hall on the fourth floor, the clubroom for the entertainment department.
It’s a smaller room than one we usually have for cla.s.s, but it’s rather s.p.a.cious for a clubroom. For some reason, there’s a kitchen in the corner and the gas works. There’s also an unneeded refrigerator, a pot, tableware, which everyone brought from home, so simple dishes can be made.
In the center of the clubroom, three sofas are situated around a low table. If you look at the back of the clubroom, the junk that was original here is piled up, in addition to the other junk that Akane has picked up. There might be something useful in all of it, so it’s not thrown away, but it looks as if an avalanche might happen soon if it’s not straightened up.
By the way, the entertainment department is a club that Hayate and I started to have a room we could use freely at school. The official name is "I'm going to be a part of it because it’s too much trouble." The entertainment department for short. It was never about entertainment.
“h.e.l.lo.” (Tsukasa)
“Tsukasa, you came back!” (Akane)
“Nyaa~” (Tsukasa)
“Hey, Akane!” (Saki)
When I entered the clubroom, Akane immediately hugs me. Saki immediately whacks Akane on the head with a harisen (Folded paper fan). Akane reluctantly lets go of me and sits down on a sofa. Hayate sits on the sofa opposite of Akane, while Saki and I sit down on the other sofa.
I take a sip of the tea Saki gives me. When I tell her, “It’s delicious,” she smiles and says, “Thank you.”
“We’ll wait a little longer until Chisato returns. I'm sure she'll be back soon.” (Saki)
Saki tells to me as I calmly looking around the room.
“She’s a relative of mine. Her name is Chisato Hiyomori, do you know her? She is a different cla.s.s from you, so you might not know her. Chisato seems to know you though.” (Saki)
Saki says and then laughs meaningfully. It is a little scary because I can’t read what she’s thinking from her expressions, unlike Akane and Hayate.
“Akane found a book she borrowed from the library a while ago and she’s returning it for her. Did you see her on your way here?” (Saki)
