Flesh of stem distinct from that of pileus; gills free and remote from the stem; spores hyaline; ring and volva absent.

This genus follows _Lepiota_, from which it differs in the absence of a ring.

Allied to _T. coryphaeum_, differing in general aspect of p., g. never yellow-edged, less viscid, and no smell.
