Everything Begins Today

Ten people held wrists to form a circle. Wen Jing closed his eyes as an intense light covered everyone’s body.

Suddenly, his five senses disappeared and his stomach churned with nausea. From within his inner sea came the sound of wind and the feeling of constant tumbling. After a while, his sense of touch returned then came the indistinct sound of people screaming and weapons clas.h.i.+ng. The sounds were faint as if they were m.u.f.fled by a fog.

Unexpectedly, his body dropped downwards.

Wen Jing’s arms stretched taught as the people as his sides flew in different directions, almost pulling him apart. He made a prompt decision and loosened his left hand while grabbing firmly with his right.

Suddenly the surrounding screams became clear, ringing in his ears, as Wen Jing dropped towards the ground. He felt a sharp pain as his head cracked against an unexpected rock. Then, a heavy body ruthlessly crushed him.

Wen Jing’s stomach roiled as he was agonizingly squashed.

He Ling’s cold voice came from above: “Why did you pull me!”

Confused and disoriented, Wen Jing let go of his hand: “My apologies, Second Senior Brother, I was anxious.”

He Ling’s fighting power was high. Hanging on to him would be the easiest way to survive.

Several knife blades composed of spiritual energy flew towards them and sure enough, He Ling easily swept them away.

“Leave.” He Ling said coldly as he promptly rushed into the melee.

“Yes!” Wen Jing stood up with a thump.

He Ling spoke brusquely, meaning: Leave, find a safe place to hide, don’t stay here and cause problems.

In the surrounding chaos, over a dozen people with maddened scarlet eyes were caught in the grip of a struggle. With spiritual energy and magic techniques flying there and there, if one were not cautious, it would be easy to sustain injuries.

With his Qi Refining stage seven cultivation, he absolutely had no room to be brave and had to prioritize retreating.

Just as he was about to escape, from behind came a sudden gust of wind and warm arms held Wen Jing against someone’s chest. Held in a firm embrace, he was carried out of the melee at a rapid pace.

Wen Jing stared at him in shock.

“Senior, Senior Brother Jun, I, you ーー”

The female lead?!

In an instant, they had already flown twenty zhang¹ away. Jun YanZhi put him down and looked down at his forehead and tightly pursed his lips.

Wen Jing felt intensely confused.

He had carefully calculated and deliberately pulled He Ling to serve as his life-saving talisman. Obviously he could take care of himself and didn’t need to concern of others. What had he gotten wrong?

Wen Jing looked at the everyone fighting but it was too chaotic and nothing could be made out: The female lead? The female lead? Don’t be dead!

His thoughts a mess, Wen Jing moved to rush in.

Jun YanZhi pulled him back: “Stay here and don’t move. I’ll go save the others.”

Saying this, his figure was like a black shadow as he flew away.

Water Moon Palace Eighth Palace Master Chen XueYing took along a few dozen disciples to the trial but for some unknown reason they had begun to fight amongst themselves. More than ten of them had fled, wounded, and at the entrance of the ancient formation had then gone mad, attacking with wide scarlet eyes. w.a.n.g Yue peak had been the first to enter. Caught off guard, they bore the brunt of the damage.”

ーー excerpt from Chapter 42 《A Calamity for All Living Things》

After a short while, the disciples of Hui s.h.i.+ peak and been rescued one by one. Many of them had sustained injuries but nothing fatal.

Not long after that, the disciples of w.a.n.g Yue peak were also rescued. Their injuries were heavier, but everyone had survived.

More than a dozen people of those transmitted by the formation were still in combat.

Ji KeQing’s chest had been wounded and during her time of imminent peril, one of her fellow senior sisters had blocked the strike with her own body. Pale, both of them sat regulating their breathing.

In Hui s.h.i.+ peak, only Jun YanZhi had studied wood healing techniques. He treated Li Shu and Mo ShaoYan’s heavier injuries, then sat at Wen Jing’s side and carefully treated the bruise on his forehead.

Wen Jing turned his head to look at Ji KeQing sitting a few zhang away, feeling the urge to cry without tears.

In a while the story would continue and at some point, everyone in Hui s.h.i.+ peak would lose track of each other. Jun YanZhi would continue alone, and in a freak coincidence, would have a chance encounter with Ji KeQing. Traveling together, the pair would go through numerous twists and turns before finally finding the “Distant Wood Spirit Stone”. Ji KeQing’s ice techniques would play a key role in discovering the spirit stone but she would step back due to Jun YanZhi’s kindness in saving her. This spirit stone was finally possessed by Jun YanZhi.

However, now that Jun YanZhi had not saved her, she would most likely not give him the spirit stone.

Additionally, when searching for the Distant Wood Spirit Stone, it would be necessary to use Ji KeQing’s ice techniques. In other words, it would be difficult to have Ji KeQing contribute but not allow her to receive the benefit of the final results……

“Junior Brother Lu, what are you thinking about?” Jun YanZhi’s hand rested on Wen Jing’s forehead. Finger’s filled with white light, he gently stroked the skin.

“No, I wasn’t thinking about anything……”

“You seemed to have something on your mind……”

“It’s nothing, I’m just daydreaming.”

“……it’s fine to daydream, but if you really have something on your mind, you can……well, you can talk to me.” His voice was very soft almost as if it were a secret between them.

“Um……”

A male gaze as soft as water. With a thought-provoking elegant temperament, he stroked his forehead and said “You can talk to me”……

Wen Jing stared at him blankly.

What happened to with senior brother……

Liu QianMo looked at those of w.a.n.g Yue peak not far from them and walked over to ask: “Does anyone need a.s.sistance?”

A woman of about thirty stood up: “Many thanks, Senior Brother, we don’t need anything.” The woman’s appearance wouldn’t be considered beautiful but her temperament was like a celestial and she had an aura of a great expert. She was w.a.n.g Yue peak’s eldest disciple, Ke MuWen.

The other disciples didn’t even glance at him.

Liu QianMo knew w.a.n.g Yue peak always had their noses in the air and didn’t take Hui s.h.i.+ peak seriously. He had only come over to be polite. Not minding a bit, he said: “Then that’s good, everyone be careful”, then turned around to return to his group.

At this time, the ancient formation suddenly emitted an intense light.

Liu QianMo said in a low voice: “More disciples have arrived.”

In front of the formation, the Water Moon sect disciples had suffered more than ten fatalities. The remaining three or four lunatics were attacking without any trace of rationality.

The white light disappeared and ten Hong Xiu peak disciples appeared in the sky only to be caught off guard as they were drawn into the ma.s.sacre.

Liu QianMo, He Ling, Jun YanZhi and a few w.a.n.g Yue peak females promptly flew forward in order to rescue the ones in need. There was compet.i.tion within the Qing Xu sword sect, but there were strict orders to help each other and oppose foreign enemies. Standing idly by was strictly forbidden.

Several shadows swiftly darted away and not long after ten people were pulled out.

Soon after, the last Water Moon sect disciple finally collapsed.

Within Eight Winds Cliff there were green mountains, white clouds, and a warm breeze. Originally it was very beautiful. But the current scene was horrifying. Dead bodies everywhere, rivers of blood, and people wearing miserable and frightened expressions. Many of the bodies had broken bones that were unnaturally twisted almost as if they still struggled against death.

This sight reminded Wen Jing of zombies from a TV show.

Jun YanZhi looked at the wretched scene in front of the ancient array and something seemed to come to mind. There was a trace of turmoil as he tightly pursed his lips.

Gu JinPing asked softly: “What happened to Eight Winds Cliff? Do we still go on?”

Liu QianMo mused: “I don’t know if this was something that happened to Eight Winds Cliff or if it was something within that sect.”

Wen Jing bowed his head.

Everything would begin from today.

Liu QianMo bowed his head and thought deeply then said to Ke MuWen: “Since this kind of thing has happened to Water Moon sect, the Eight Winds Cliff is possibly also turbulent. Should we continue the trial?”

Ke MuWen glanced at everyone and bit her lip, saying: “You ask us this, but we have no right to dictate the actions of others. However, my w.a.n.g Yue peak is determined to win the 《Restoration Sutra》. Naturally we are determined to continue.”

Hong Xiu peak’s eldest disciple looked at the bodies on the ground and gritted his teeth: “Hong Xiu peak also is determined to go. Moreover, this was originally a trial. This would be a good opportunity to test our disciples.”

Liu QianMo thought for a moment then smiled: “We have fewer people. It’s already a blessing that no one lost their lives. This being the case, we will take our leave.”

He turned towards those from Hui s.h.i.+ peak: “There’s nothing left to say. Li Shu and Lu Jing’s injuries are almost recovered. We should leave.”

Everyone stood up in two’s and three’s and arranged themselves to prepare for their departure.

Wen Jing finally glanced at Ji KeQing.

The girl’s face was beautiful. Her eyes closed, she seemed to still be meditating as she continued to recover. She and Senior Brother Jun hadn’t developed any ties. Their lives had changed. Would Wen RenMu end up to obtaining this high mountain flower?

……in the end, it was none of his business. He would just wait and see.

Li Shu asked uneasily: “Aren’t we leaving? Why aren’t we heading to the ancient formation?”

Peng Shao said: “This formation is only for entering Eight Winds Cliff. In order to depart, there is another formation on the other side. The path there does not allow us to fly, we can only proceed on foot. In total, it will take two or three days.”

Mo ShaoYan hesitated for a moment then asked in a low voice: “Does this path cross Forever Spring valley?”

Liu QianMo responded: “……it pa.s.ses by the edge of Forever Spring Valley. We can stop there for a day. If we find the “Distant Wood” then that would be good, however, it’s not guaranteed.”

“Understood.” Mo ShaoYan rubbed his nose.

He had been chosen as a successor to the 《Restoration Sutra》which had excited him a great deal. Who would have thought that something like this could happen.

Ten people took to the air and followed after Liu QianMo towards the depths of Eight Winds Cliff.

Translator’s notes:

zhang = 3.58 meters

I’ve been listening to a crazy amount of Kpop lately. Must resist the urge to start studying Korean…. I’m so easily influenced.
