Chapter 44—Without Even a Skeleton Remaining
Ni Cui didn’t pay any mind to Imperial Physician Li’s expression, as since she had been young, she had been used to staying unperturbed to situations like this. However, at hearing Imperial Physician Li’s words, Ni Cui’s heart felt as if it had been rid of an extremely heavy weight. However, while she inwardly rejoiced, she also couldn’t help but feel extremely terrified. The events that had happened earlier now vividly replayed themselves in her mind. The sickly smell of countless burnt corpses still pervaded the Fourth Princess’s residence. Ni Cui feared that after Mo Qinghan woke up, she would suffer the same fate.
“Water… water…” Mo Qinghan slowly awoke at this moment. She felt as if her throat was on fire, forcing her to speak in a rasp.
Ni Cui hurriedly grabbed for a gla.s.s of water. With one hand she supported Mo Qinghan’s back; with the other, she slowly poured the water into Mo Qinghan’s mouth.
Feeling the sweet feeling of something trickling down her throat, Mo Qinghan slowly opened her eyes. Raising her head, she realized that the person who was feeding her water was Ni Cui. Behind her, the room was crowded with other servants, bodyguards, and doctors. The disoriented Mo Qinghan thought back to how she had been painfully strummed over the top of the rafters of her residence, as well as the agony that had enveloped her entire body. One of her final memories was that of a golden-robed person standing in front of her.
Right, it was Mo Qingli that s.l.u.t, it had to be her!
Still… Mo Qinghan twisted her waist experimentally. Why didn’t she feel any pain, then? Mo Qinghan, uncaring about her image, sat up and ripped open the lapel of her collar. The skin that she had originally thought to be full of wounds were now completely healed. Furthermore, in comparison to what it had been before, the skin seemed to be even more tender.
How had this happened?
“Ni Cui!”
Hearing Mo Qinghan suddenly loudly shout her name, Ni Cui became extremely alarmed. However she still quickly responded to the princess, respectfully saying: “This servant is here, does the princess have any command?”
Mo Qinghan’s demeanor s.h.i.+fted from her usual arrogant personality. Doubtfully, she asked, “How, how come my wounds disappeared?”
The surrounding people immediately became alarmed, tightly closing their mouths. They feared that if they said something wrong the Fourth Princess would be displeased and dispose of them, without even a skeleton remaining.
Mo Qinghan saw that the moment that many of the people around her saw that she was awake, their heads bowed down and they did not dare to look at her. Mixed in with their usual deference was a deep-rooted fear. Some of the servants and bodyguards were also reduced to uncontrollable shaking. Mo Qinghan furrowed her eyebrows. Though she knew that many of them viewed her with fear, she didn’t think that she could ever provoke… dread!?
“Hey, I’m saying…”
Mo Qinghan didn’t even finish her words before the slaves and bodyguards in the room all kneeled onto the ground, kowtowing to her. The entire room was filled with the sounds of heads. .h.i.tting against the ground, a sound that was enough to make her feel extremely annoyed. Only Ni Cui, standing beside her, remained in her original position. Mo Qinghan, fed up with the kowtowing, waved her hands. “All of you withdraw! You’re an eyesore.”
“Yes!” The crowd released a heavy exhale, one after another retreating to the doorway.
“Ni Cui.” Mo Qinghan suddenly thought of something, turning around to address the also withdrawing Ni Cui.
Hearing that, Ni Cui stopped walking. After a moment she turned around, deferentially standing by Mo Qinghan’s side.
Once everyone else had filed away, Mo Qinghan again asked Ni Cui what had happened. Ni Cui whispered quietly into Mo Qinghan’s ear, watching Mo Qinghan’s two eyebrows crease tightly.
It looked like the situation really was unimaginable. How had she not retained any of the memories from that time? Her last memory was only of being hung on the rafters, and then…
And then… afterwards her memory seemed to have been wiped into a blank slate, how had that happened? Mo Qinghan rested her forehead on her hands and closed her eyes, trying to reclaim the memories of that time. However, no matter what she tried to do, she was unable to remember anything.
