A book came out of the mystery chest that came out of the snake’s stomach.

As that went on we finished eating. Since n.o.body could read the book, we decided to get out of the desert first.
At this rate, the only fresh meat……ah, it’s not that they are against eating snake meat okay? But we do want variation.

And so, we are advancing through the desert again.
As expected, nothing like the snake yesterday……night? showed up, so well, while sweeping aside the small fries that are treated like supply depots, we steadily advanced.

“……oi, Maito, where’re you going, we’re not going that way.”
Somehow, there’s a direction I strangely want to go in, and my feet just strangely turns towards it.
No, rather than my feet, I’m turning Ketorami though.
“A—h……somehow, I feel like there was something this way.”

The result of a meeting, we decided to go in the direction I want to go towards for some reason.

Right in the middle of the desert, we discovered a large cliff. And when we tried entering a crevice in the cliff, we discovered the huge snake’s empty egg sh.e.l.l. This is a bingo.

The crevice is quite large, and it’s dark
The deeper parts can’t be seen just with the light from the entrance.
“Da—rk can’t see—”
“Ah, then I’ll make it brighter. It’ll be blinding for an instant, so please be careful.”
Just as I thought Kariya was mumbling something, poyan, a few b.a.l.l.s of light floated up into the air.
Those, seems to be [Light Ball], lit up the interior and we could finally see everything.
Including the [Precious Thing] the snake was hiding.

Their confusion is quite natural.
Right there, was the snake’s child.

Similar to the parent snake, it is a pitch black snake and only it’s eyes are red like rubies.
When I involuntarily reached out and touched it, it felt strangely nice to stroke.
It’s length is about 0.5m. It’s thickness is about that of a thumb. A size that can be held in both hands when curled up.
Very……cute.
“So, Maito, what are you going to do, with that? Keep it?”
Keep it, can I do that? We were the ones that killed the parent snake.
But, it might also be better to leave it to nature.
But that is also irresponsible, then again, if asked whether keeping it would be taking responsibility, it wouldn’t.

When I tried heading towards where the reply came from, the small snake was swaying there.

The baby snake wasn’t particularly angry or sad, he just kept swaying.
It felt like I just missed a step on the stairs.

It was a question that was hard to answer, but if I tried to cover it up, it would think I am lying, so I answered honestly.
This snakelet also felt strangely dry and it’s easy to answer it’s questions.
“Hmmm, then you are strong.”
As expected, the snakelet didn’t say anything in particular and just said that while swaying like it was tilting it’s head.

“No, I’m weak.”
“You defeated mother even though you are weak?”
“I have comrades.”
“Hmmm.”
The snakelet seemed to want to talk, so I intended to just talk to it until it was satisfied.
And then it dropped a bomb.
“……now that you mention it, even though you killed mother, mother is inside you.”

I followed the snakelet’s gaze and turned around and, yes, it was there. The big snake.

When I tried greeting it with my heart pounding away, it licked my face with a ‘yes yes’ feel.

The snakelet winded around my arm and climbed onto my shoulder, then extended its body from there to poke the parent snake with the tip of its head.
The parent snake dissipated from where it was poked, leaving only the snakelet.

With that said, the unnatural parts and memories that didn’t belong to me in my head are certainly gone.

“Then, names. I’m Maito.”
“Maito. Got it. Please take care of me.”
“Snakelet, your name?”
“Don’t particularly have one. If needed, Maito can give me one.”
What? What? Monsters generally don’t have names?
……how do you identify individuals……
“Then…..okay, your name is Hanter.”
Origin is half-meter snake. (T/N:ハンめートル蛇 han meetoru hebi, since it’s just the half-meter part, works from English too, kind of)

With the naming is done, I withdrew.
Right after I withdrew, I made contact with Hanter’s eyes.
After making eye contact, Hanter smoothly climbed up my arm and settled around my neck.
“Maito-san, how did it turn out in the end?”
Ah, sorry. Everyone was being left behind. Sorry sorry.
“Mhm, seems like he’s coming with us, so take care of him.”
‘I’ll be in your care!’

And keeping detours to a minimum, we once again headed south quickly.
After walking continuously, we finally saw the end of the desert.
By that time, the sun was already setting, so we set up the room on the land between the desert and plains.
We will be staying here for tonight.
We hesitated on eating snake meat in front of Hanter, so we are eating smoked meat for  tonight’s dinner.
For the snake meat, after discussing with Hanter, we decided to cremate it.
As for the bones and scales, he actually asked us to use them, so we’ll be using them for something.

I probably won’t get sandy sleeping outside tonight, so I’ll be using Ketorami-san as my futon.
After quickly [Cleaning[ him, I buried myself in his belly and heaven awaits.
