This story is funnier if you read an actual cheat-harem transmigration/transportation/reincarnation type of stories or played an RPG/MMORPG before or like, read something with VMMORPG theme like Ark or Legendary Moonlight Sculptor because the terms here like skills and weapons are lit wtf lol (s.h.i.+zu said it was so chuuni lolol)

Anyway here’s chapter 4~

It’s Just Natural to be Opportunistic I suffered from psychological damage after learning that Michel-san was also a h.o.m.o but I can’t just stop here! I will live in this fantasy world! Although there are no girls but this is a real RPG. Everyone yearns to be heroes and hunters, yes? Since I don’t know the way back to my former world, I’ll just enjoy adventuring in this unfamiliar world!

That being the case, let’s start with the first quest: Collecting Rusoku gra.s.s.

Act.1: Leave the town and go to the Western forest where the Rusoku gra.s.s grows. As you do so, remember to say thanks to the gatekeeper ossan. Thank you for bringing me to the guild! Even though it was actually a h.o.m.o’s den!  .

Act.2: Collect Rusoku gra.s.s. The area where the Rusoku gra.s.s was quite far away but I found it as soon as I entered the forest. I had the appraisal skill so I found it immediately! This skill is really convenient!

Act.3: Deliver it to the guild. That’s it! Quest Cleared!  .

The quest was surprisingly easy thanks to the hard work of Appraisal-san. It was the first quest so I would be troubled if it was actually hard but it was just distance that was far. The difficulty level is like that of sending a child for an errand. By the way, this Rusoku gra.s.s is actually used for medicinal purposes. Maybe something like a potion?

“I’m done collecting..”

“You’ve worked hard. Yup, there’s exactly 10. Rusoku gra.s.s is easily distinguished by it’s brown and yellow spots. Nonetheless, finding it this fast inside the forest is amazing. I think it’s my first time seeing someone clear a quest this quickly.”

Michel-san said as he handed me a copper coin that looks slightly bigger than a 500 Yen coin. It’s written 1 big copper coin as the reward so this is probably it, but I wonder how much it’s worth? I don’t know how the currency of this world works at all.

But it’s probably weird to not know the monetary value. I don’t want to incur suspicion so let’s try asking carefully.

“Michel-san, what is the value for this? Uhm, for example, how much would it cost to stay in an inn around here?”

“Hmm, if it’s the cheaper ones then it’ll cost about 3 big copper coins and 1 silver coin for the expensive ones. s.h.i.+romu-kun is still a newbie adventurer though so you can use the guild’s room you’re currently using now for a month or so. I’ll be troubled if something happens to you while you are earning a lodging fee.”

“Is that true, Michel-san? Thank you very much! You’re a lifesaver! I have a debt of 1 silver coin and I’m really penniless. Uhm, how many times do I have to clear this quest in order to earn 1 silver coin again?”

“If it’s the Rusoku gra.s.s quest then it’s 10 times. Just start with collection quests first and gradually get used to the guild, okay?”

“Yes. Thank you very much.”

I smiled broadly¹ as I said my thanks. I have to do the Rusoku gra.s.s quest 10 times to get 1 silver coin… Meaning, 1 silver coin is equal to 10 big copper coins, huh. There are other coins too such as the copper coin and big silver coin so I still have more to learn but I will slowly explore that later on. For now, I’ve learnt that I can pay the town’s entrance fee immediately if I work hard.

Anyway, Michel-san is really kind. I didn’t think that I would be able to stay in the guild’s room at all. Let’s suppose I stay in a cheap inn for a month, I would have to pay 3 big copper coins × 30 = 90, so it’ll be 9 silver coins. Fufufu. I would save enough money to enter this town 9 times, y’know? I’m seriously grateful for that.

I don’t know if it’s in the guild’s system that novice adventurers can stay in the guild’s room or if it’s just Michel-san’s good will. If it’s the former then it’s alright but I’m a little scared if it’s the latter. Because doesn’t that mean he might have an ulterior motive? Like, owing him a favor then get eaten up later or something? …Just as I thought, it’s bad to sponge off on someone else, yup.  Let’s do our best to become independent quickly.

That day, I did the Rusoku gra.s.s quest once again and earned another big copper coin. On a side note, it seems that they also purchase the excess if it’s in multiples of tens. It seems that you need 10 strands of Rusoku gra.s.s to create one serving of medicine. I see.

And so for a week, I will single-mindedly pluck Rusoku gra.s.s and earn big copper coins.

It’s been 3 days since I came to this town. Everyday, I’ve continuously accepted quests and just a while ago, I finally payed off my entrance fee debt and I am left with 41 big copper coins and 128 copper coins. By the way, it seems that 100 copper coins is equal to 1 big copper coin. I found out when I ate outside.

Since I managed to save 4 silver coins, I want to buy something. And that something is a weapon. It’s about time I do something other than collecting! And for that I need a weapon.

Weapons are made up of metal so it’s quite expensive. Even low-ranking weapons cost one silver coin but I can’t receive a subjugation quest if I don’t have a weapon and if I don’t defeat monsters I won’t level up.

So I’m thinking of buying a weapon with the little money I have. Let’s goー！To the weapons shop we go!

I went to the only weapon shop in town.

It’s easy to buy a weapon in a game because a menu shows up and you just have to choose but to actually buy one is difficult. I’m overwhelmed by the weapons lined-up all  around me.

Weapons decorated the walls and baskets filled with various types weapons were lined-up on the ground. Even just looking at it is already a lot of work. I should focus on looking for swords for now.

When I activated Appraisal, the weapon’s characteristics were displayed.

It seems that the blade I’m holding now is a knife². I looked at the other weapons through the appraisal and there are a lot of knives but the ranks differs from F to D. D is probably more efficient than F. I can determine which one is good even if it’s the same type of knife. Appraisal-san, you’re seriously useful! Thanks!

Now, which weapon are we going to choose… Having a knife as my first weapon is just sad. Might as well just buy one from a cutlery shop if I’m going for a knife.

What I’m curious about is the long sword on the wall. It’s a B rank and it’s much better compared to the other weapons from this shop. But I fall short on the price. When I asked the shopkeeper it was actually 30 silver coins. Of course I will not buy it.  Ahhhhー, I hate being poor. I want to do subjugation quests soon and earn money.

But for that I need a weapon. As expected, newbies shouldn’t ask for too much and should just start with a wooden sword.. is what I thought as I look around. As I rummage through a basket filled with cheap weapons, I saw a dagger at the bottom.

The dagger is reddish in some parts. Is it rusting? For now I should appraise it.

I stared at the dagger tinged with red and read the ability. 『Absorbs the opponent’s blood and feeds it to the owner』It seems frightening but it’s basically talking about the HP-absorbing skill, right?『Wounds will be recovered and strength will be replenished』is also written, so this is definitely it! A weapon with a HP-draining skill! What a cheat weapon! I want this! I really want this! I absolutely want this!

Wait! Don’t get hasty! The price will go up if the shopkeeper finds out that this weapon is rare, y’know? It’s impossible for the penniless me to pay for that. This is where we calmly and politely negotiate with the shopkeeper!

“Yes. I want this dagger but how much does it cost?”

“Let me see.”

The shopkeeper ossan⁴ took the  Crimson Thief CutterB L O O D Y   S T E A L   D A G G E R  from me and carefully evaluated it. I’m begging you, please don’t notice. That is just a simple dagger, that is just a simple dagger…

“Boy, are you sure with this? It seems rusty and doesn’t look like a good weapon to me?”

“Yes. To be honest I cannot buy expensive weapons at the moment. That is why I can only buy something like that”

“Well, can’t be helped then. You’re still quite small too so I’ll sell it to you at a cheap price. How about 1 silver coin?”

Of course it’s A-OK! Yahooー! I got my hands on a rare weapon!

I went out of the shop happily after paying a silver coin to the ossan. I managed to get a rare weapon, moreover for only one silver coin, just one silver coin! YEーY!

Anyway, it’s not only Michel-san, even the ossan treats me like a child but do I really look like a kid that much? Of course compared to their foreigner-like faces, I look baby-faced but I’m still 17? 17! Not an age you identify as a kid.

Well I reaped a benefit because of that so I will close my eyes this time. But someday I will have to rectify this mistake. For the sake of my honor!

Now that I got my hands on a weapon, I guess it’s time to accept a subjugation quest. Fufufu, let’s hunt and smack those monsters like crazy, level up quickly, and become a strong adventurerー! YEAAAAHー!

剣 >> sword
So Crimson Thief Cutter. I used cutter because it’s not a sword and zan斬 kanji is to cut (remember ZANpakuto (斬魄刀/Soul-Cutter Sword) from bleach? I took it there) ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I’m sorry for referencing a bunch of anime everytime, just though it’d help for explanation.
