Chapter 257: Reconciled

The light above the operating theater door stayed on for some time. As the a.s.sistant could not see the situation inside, he could only sit on the chair and wait patiently.
He had seen Zheng Yue walk into the operating theater with his own eyes, so he was not too worried.
The surgery lasted for nearly half an hour before the lights went out.
The door opened from the inside and the a.s.sistant got up. He saw Zheng Yue being helped out by a nurse wearing a mask. Her face was as pale as a corpse as she held her stomach.
Then, a doctor walked out.
“How was the surgery?” the a.s.sistant asked hurriedly.
The doctor who came out later glanced at him. “It went quite smoothly. Go and get some medicine later. The patient’s body is still a little weak.”
The a.s.sistant heaved a sigh of relief when he received an affirmative answer. Then, before the door closed, he pretended to look inside. Although he could not see clearly, a trace of blood fell into his eyes.
The last trace of doubt in his heart dissipated at this moment.
After the mission was completed, there was no need for the a.s.sistant to follow Zheng Yue. Hence, he drove the car back to the company to find Nan Kang to report to him.
“You’re back. How did it go?” Nan Kang couldn’t help but ask.
Nan Kang couldn’t help but feel worried since he didn’t see it with his own eyes. Hence, when he saw his a.s.sistant return, he asked casually.
The a.s.sistant nodded affirmatively. “I saw her enter the operating theater with my own eyes. There’s definitely no problem.”
Nan Kang believed his a.s.sistant’s confident words and was relieved.
“Alright, go and rest if there’s nothing else.” Nan Kang waved his hand.
After getting rid of the trouble on Zheng Yue’s side, Nan Kang relaxed in his chair and exhaled.
With Nan Xuan’s help, the company’s decline was fortunately resisted. Recently, they have also managed to get some business.
Nan Kang didn’t have much of a schedule today. Thinking about how he had treated Zheng Yue today and let her have an abortion, he believed Zheng Yue must be in a bad mood.
“I’m going out for a while,” he instructed his secretary. “Postpone today’s schedule.”
After all, he still liked Zheng Yue. He did not want to cut off their relations.h.i.+p like this, so he bought many clothes, bags, and tonics and brought them to Zheng Yue’s house.
Not long after Zheng Yue returned home, she was visited by Nan Kang.
The moment she heard the knock on the door, she hurriedly went to take a look.
Seeing that it was Nan Kang, Zheng Yue was so frightened that she hurriedly stopped looking happy. She ran to look in the mirror to make sure that her face was very pale before opening the door.
“…” She pursed her lips and did not say anything.
She stood at the door and held her stomach. Her body was slightly bent as if she was in great pain.
Seeing her like this, Nan Kang’s heart softened, and his tone became gentler.
He reached out and took the initiative to put his arm around Zheng Yue’s shoulder. “I’m sorry for being so rough with you today.”
“I just think that it’s not the right time to have a child now. You’re still young, and I don’t want to ruin you…” Nan Kang blurted out as if it was for her sake.
In the past, Zheng Yue would still believe what he said, but what happened in the hospital today was still vivid in her mind. She still could not forget how Nan Kang forcefully pulled her to the hospital.
Zheng Yue’s heart had completely turned cold. She had also seen through Nan Kang’s true nature under his sweet words.
There was no joy on her face as she only responded softly and sat on the sofa. For the first time, she did not welcome Nan Kang warmly.
Nan Kang closed the door and sat beside her. “Alright, don’t be angry. Look at the gifts I bought for you.”
He placed all the things he had brought on the coffee table in front of him. There were even some that needed to be placed on the ground.
“Didn’t you want this bag for a long time? And the dress from the banquet last time.” This was the first time Nan Kang was so patient.
Zheng Yue’s cold expression softened slightly when she saw his gentle expression. She subconsciously followed his actions and looked at the gifts.
What Nan Kang had said was indeed what Zheng Yue had wanted before. Seeing that he was so diligent this time, Zheng Yue restrained herself. She did not plan to be completely separated from Nan Kang.
“…Then don’t be so fierce to me in the future,” Zheng Yue suddenly said.
It was as if a crack had appeared in the ice, giving Nan Kang a glimpse of hope. He hurriedly stuffed the gifts into Zheng Yue’s arms and struck while the iron was hot.
Nan Kang smiled and nodded. “Of course. 1 was too anxious today. We can discuss the matter of having a child in the future.”
He even refuted his previous words. It was obvious that he was just trying to make Zheng Yue happy.
“My stomach hurts.” At the mention of the child, Zheng Yue’s eyes turned red.
Zheng Yue felt that he might come back when she got home, so she deliberately put on pale and pitiful makeup which came in handy now.
She had been dragged to the hospital this morning and had not eaten anything until now, so her stomach could not be seen.
Nan Kang thought that it was the aftereffect of the surgery and got up to get her a hot water bag.
For the next few days, Nan Kang seemed to have regained the enthusiasm they had when they first met. He came to look for Zheng Yue every day and even gave her all kinds of expensive gifts every few days.
“When I saw this necklace, 1 felt that it suited you.” Nan Kang helped her put on the necklace.
The two of them stood in front of the mirror. Zheng Yue looked at herself in the mirror. Her neck was decorated with an emerald silver chain, making her look especially moving.
Zheng Yue smiled and kissed Nan Kang, looking obedient and pleasant.
Ever since that day, the two of them tacitly stopped mentioning the topic of children.
Nan Kang’s heart skipped a beat when he saw Zheng Yue’s beautiful face. “By the way, there’s a banquet in two days. Do you want to go with me?”
He reached out and touched Zheng Yue’s waist. Her slender and graceful curves made his heart flutter. The invitation in his words was also to let Zheng Yue return to his company to continue being an a.s.sistant. He would feel more at ease keeping her under his nose.
“A banquet?” Zheng Yue was stunned for a moment before she lowered her head again. “I’d better not go… The doctor even told me to take care of my health these few days.”
She looked down at the ground, her tone suddenly turning from cheerful to downcast.
Nan Kang also knew that a miscarriage was harmful to the body, so when he heard Zheng Yue’s words, he immediately dismissed the idea of letting her go to the banquet with him.
“Then don’t go. Stay at home and recuperate. Remember to look for me if there’s anything.” Nan Kang changed his mind.
As long as it was not a big deal, he would go along with Zheng Yue. Moreover, hearing her say this, he retracted the charming thoughts that had just appeared in his heart.
Considering that Zheng Yue had just had an abortion, Nan Kang had not touched her for the past few days, which made it convenient for Zheng Yue to disguise herself.
Nan Kang’s gentle voice sounded in her ear, but Zheng Yue knew that this could not go on.
The place Murong Qiao had found for her had also been exposed to Nan Kang. She had to find another excuse and go to another place to protect the baby, and it had to be the kind that Nan Kang couldn’t find.
She thought for a moment and said, “I haven’t been feeling well for the past two days, so I want to go home and take a look.”
Zheng Yue looked up at Nan Kang with a lonely expression, as if she was homesick.
“Mom has been calling me to chat for the past few days. I want to go back and
see her..”
