Incurable Pain | Chapter 98.2

  1. Vacation

Ah Mo finally managed to accomplish a good thing.

Before Bai Xunyin’s transfer order to the Academy of Sciences came, she helped find a very reliable auntie.

Auntie Fang, fifty-three years old, with a slightly plump figure and a very kind demeanor, worked efficiently and had a gentle personality. The nanny company said she had been in this line of work for twenty years, strict but kind, and very trustworthy.

Of course, a good salary was naturally required for good work.

But for Bai Xunyin and Yu Luoyin, money was the least of their worries.

After observing Auntie Fang for two days, they decided to keep her.

“The previous employer emigrated.” Occasionally, during conversations, Auntie Fang would mention her previous work experience, her round face looking kind and charming: “Otherwise, I could have stayed there.”

“My home is in the county below Lin Lan. After my son got married, I had nothing to do, so I followed my old man to farm. If I didn’t work as a nanny, I wouldn’t know what to do.”

“But with hands and feet, working in the city, spending your own money, you stand tall.”

As Auntie Fang spoke, she chuckled, evidently extremely satisfied with her current life.

Bai Xunyin listened quietly, occasionally agreeing with a few words. Her voice was gentle, and Auntie Fang couldn’t help but say, “Xiao Bai, you and Xiao Yu treat me better than my previous employers did. For someone like us, who work as nannies, meeting families like yours is truly a blessing.”

After all, Bai Xunyin had experienced too little in life. In Auntie Fang, she saw the bitterness and vicissitudes of a middle-aged woman who had experienced half a century.

But she still greeted life with enthusiasm.

Auntie Fang’s cooking was delicious. After she arrived, the lives of Bai Xunyin and Yu Luoyin, two ‘semi-skilled’ individuals, quickly improved in quality.

As for Yu Baiqi, he was even better off. With Auntie Fang taking care of him three meals a day, and picking him up in the morning and dropping him off in the evening, he quickly became very familiar with her.

They gradually accepted the addition of another person to their family and slowly adapted.

And adapting wasn’t as difficult as they had imagined.

The transfer order to the Academy of Sciences was communicated to the inst.i.tute before the National Day holiday. Most people already knew that Bai Xunyin was going to become an engineer at the Academy of Sciences.

It was rare for a young person, especially a girl, to be promoted so quickly, but in the academic world, people only looked at your abilities and didn’t speculate whether you had ‘connections’. Bai Xunyin’s research results and abilities were recognized by everyone over the years, and the arrival of the transfer order was greeted with a continuous stream of congratulations.

But Bai Xunyin herself, having prepared for this for a long time, was really calm about the transfer, and there were no surprises.

What surprised her more was actually something else.

At the research inst.i.tute, she was an ‘old-timer’ who had worked for several years, where she had to juggle many tasks, and even during statutory holidays, she couldn’t turn off her phone and had to be on call 24 hours a day.

But at the Academy of Sciences, she was just a ‘newcomer’.

Naturally, newcomers didn’t have to worry about so many things, and they had all the holidays they were ent.i.tled to.

Coincidentally, it was the National Day holiday, so for Bai Xunyin, it was a good opportunity to spend time with Yu Baiqi.

However, when asked where he wanted to go to play, his answer was unexpected.

“I miss Grandma, and my maternal grandparents.” Yu Baiqi looked at Bai Xunyin with hopeful eyes. “Mom, can we go see Grandma during the holiday?”

Previously, when Bai Xunyin gave birth, Ji Huiying came to take care of them for half a year. Later, afraid of disturbing the newlyweds, she went back.

Then, when Yu Baiqi turned two years old, she came to stay for more than a month. Compared to Gu Yuan’s strong demeanor, Yu Baiqi was closer to Ji Huiying and stuck to her tightly.

The affection brought by grandparents to their grandchildren had no boundaries, without restraint.

Sometimes, such intense emotions even surpa.s.sed those between parents. Yu Baiqi hadn’t seen his grandma for nearly half a year, so he definitely missed her deeply.

Bai Xunyin understood this quite well, so she nodded and agreed, “Okay, when the holiday comes, Mom will take you to the ancient town.”

Yu Baiqi was ecstatic and leaned on his mother’s knee, smiling, “What about Dad?”

Yu Luoyin probably wouldn’t be able to make it.

But there was nothing to be done; he didn’t have a vacation.

So Bai Xunyin ruffled Yu Baiqi’s furry little head.

Her teasing tone was somewhat helpless, “Dad is at home, earning money for us to spend.”

*

When Yu Luoyin came home in the evening and heard about this, he naturally had some opinions.

“Actually, I think it’s enough to let Baiqi stay with Mom for a few days,” Yu Luoyin said seriously, “If both of us go, the old house might feel too crowded, and Grandma and Grandpa might feel uncomfortable.”

“Both of us?” Bai Xunyin was puzzled. “Are you going too?”

Yu Luoyin chuckled, “Why not?”

This woman was planning to leave him alone at home, growing mushrooms.

Bai Xunyin rested her chin on her knee, looking at him innocently, “Do you have a vacation?”

From what she knew, hospitals rarely had time off.

“I do,” Yu Luoyin smiled, stretched his arm over the bed and pulled her into his arms, lazily playing with her fingers, “Unless you beg me, then I can find a way to get a vacation to spend time alone with you.”

No wonder she said she would send Yu Baiqi to his maternal grandparents, it turned out she had this idea.

Bai Xunyin was both angry and amused, but she didn’t show it on her face, just coldly said, “I won’t beg you.”

Yu Luoyin couldn’t resist tickling her.

His slender fingers made her giggle, begging for mercy as she laughed, “Okay, okay, tell me how to get the vacation.”

“Fool,” Yu Luoyin sighed helplessly, looking at Bai Xunyin’s dark eyes with a hint of guilt, “Have you forgotten? When I took my marriage leave, I was called back to work, and we didn’t even have a honeymoon, remember?”

The leader promised to make up for the missed leave, but this forgetful woman actually forgot.

Hearing this, Bai Xunyin’s eyes lit up, “So it’s marriage leave?”

“Yeah,” Yu Luoyin smiled helplessly, “It’s been four years since we got married, and I still have unused marriage leave.”

But anyway, the vacation was there and wouldn’t grow legs and run away. It could be used sooner or later.

Bai Xunyin was actually straightforward, but in her heart, she was looking forward to spending two days with Yu Luoyin.

She leaned over to his shoulder and asked softly, “Can you take a few days off?”

“Maybe not too many,” Yu Luoyin thought for a moment, estimating conservatively, “Four or five days.”

“That’s okay,” Bai Xunyin smiled, “That’s enough.”

She understood the special nature of work in hospitals – after all, saving lives couldn’t wait, so she naturally understood Yu Luoyin’s situation.

So Bai Xunyin was very good at ‘satisfying’ both of them.
